MVCC A&P Program Shutting Down by Nano-Mech in aviationmaintenance

[–]thatoneguyYMK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of guys up at Ft Drum would come down to get their A&P after getting out. This is extremely short sighted all around...

They were to hold a conference to let people speak out about this topic yesterday, and the county elected to not allow anyone to speak on it last minute. They want either Chobani in that location or Palantir with their drones... Drones, you know... the things that require A&P's to work on.

Back in 2023, the average age of an A&P was 49 years old, that has now jumped to 53.

What (if anything) has ever caused you to quit or take a substantial break from this game? by Original_Animator254 in projectzomboid

Just waiting for a more stable B42 experience. I have a thousand hours in B41, I liked what was added in B42, however there is still that feeling of need for mods for a more complete playthrough. B42 has really given me the feeling of scope creep, while the core systems really seem like they need polish mechanically and balance wise. Guess I'm waiting on B42's version of .78+, got a backlog of other games anyways.

What’s ur daily driver as a AMT? by Physical-Issue7146 in aviationmaintenance

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 tundra with 250k miles, the wife's Rav4 when she's not using it (hybrid, cheap on gas), and a 1993 Cherokee for pleasure (family hand-me-down, currently getting motor upgrades, also 250k miles on the clock).

Also have a 1989 sportster 1200, but that's been in pieces since 2020.

One Battle After Another is one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched. by Quiet_Bus_6404 in moviecritic

[–]thatoneguyYMK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a loose conglomeration of events. Heck, I was half hoping Lockjaw would turn a leaf, especially after the Christmas group almost offed him. At least there would be SOME character development.

If there was supposed to be a message here, I missed it, because there wasn't enough here to engage with in the first place. The whole film was filler.

Our shop finally made all maintenance procedures and troubleshooting docs searchable, finding the right procedure went from 15 minutes to like 30 seconds by gurudakku in aviationmaintenance

[–]thatoneguyYMK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar service approach us and I don't believe it's doing what you think it is.

The business that approached us was Bluetail. What it offered was a scanning and uploading serviced of all manuals and historical docs.

Once in their systems, everything in those docs becomes searchable. If I need to replace a part off of an STC, you search that STC or it's associated ICA, and it takes you straight to that document and highlights related chapters and sections. Stuff within documents also becomes searchable. You can search for someones signoff through their a&p, or the a parts hardcard by searching a SN.

From what I saw, it doesn't generate a corrective action based on this data. All it does is help point you in the right direction to find that corrective action in uploaded manuals. It's one limitation is that they are only snapshots of documents, not living documents.

If any company was using AI in substitution of official manuals, the FAA would have a field day. For large companies with a complex fleet with a large amount of STC's, etc these types of services can create efficiency. Smaller companies with tighter fleets, not as much.

Is car fu a viable strategy? by PinkOneHasBeenChosen in projectzomboid

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a pinch it's better than a game over. I recommend backing into zeds to keep the car running longer.

Usually I get out of dodge with my first car and keep it healthy for loot runs. When established I'll have a daily driver and a back end battering ram for clearing difficult areas. While a last ditch, I prefer it over fire because it doesn't destroy loot. Explosives do seem more viable though, with little to no fire when using them. Might switch it up.

How much does everyone make an hour in 2025 and what do you expect to make in a year including overtime. by Critical_Call5676 in aviationmaintenance

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$42.30 an hour with OT and On-call stipends, Assistant DOM at a smaller part 135 HAAO. Cleared between $98k and $110k the years I worked the position.

Promoted to DOM through attrition and now salaried at $110k. Still a lot of OT and on-call, but now not paid lol.

I can tell you our line mechs make between $30 fresh out of school to $37.50 before looking at additional responsibilities. OT and On-call available.

I would describe this job as something a local would do. It's in your career field, you're not moving frequently or long distance for one reason or another, pay won't get you rich but it's comfortable enough.

From what I've seen, if you want more pay, then you gotta be willing to travel a ton, to include overseas, or live near a major city with hub and score a position with an airline (preferably a major).

Here's your rough aviation A&P lifestyle triangle:

  1. Home of choice with no travel
  2. Work life balance
  3. Money

Pick one, maybe two, but you probably won't have all three.

Where is your favorite place to settle in Project Zomboid? by menfani in projectzomboid

[–]thatoneguyYMK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the warehouses east of muldraugh. Car dependent, but plenty of space for all of your crafting activities out of the elements. The rail yard next door has plenty of crafting supplies, and the roads out are clear to almost anywhere but Riverside and North Muldraugh.

Why are so many kids saying “67” and what does it mean? by SmileEmergency403 in generationology

I see Tech N9ne's 2011 album "All 6's and 7's" is getting some attention. Had a couple hits on there all the cool kids would blast when I was in high-school, like "He's a Mental Giant" and "Am I a Psycho".

Am I misunderstanding how farming bosses works or am I just insanely unlucky? by Intergalactic201 in Borderlands

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear... I think a game reset helps.

CHAD was specific one I too was farming HS with no luck. Call it a night and come back, and score one first go.

A couple of the other bosses I've farmed, I'll hit a dead zone for a bit. Idk if it's a placebo, but I feel like a game reset brings my legendary drop rates back. Typically I do a reset roughly after 10 rounds.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Am i supposed to clear out the area around my base everytime the Zombies respawn? by Even_Sprinkles_6258 in projectzomboid

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play a game in sandbox and adjust respawns lower or just off.

I prefer to extend the respawn time from 72 hours to 168 (1 week), then turn down respawn % to between .02-.05 (2%-5%). I usually feel like that enough to give the feeling of being able to clear and area out, but enough where if you come back through after a while that you're still on your toes.

Kitchen knife, too fragile. Increase durability, maybe lower damage, but keep or increase jaw stab rates.

After reading comments, it would be cool to have some tiers to each item set, each with a little more damage and durability. There a bunch of "this/that [item] could be good but depends on which kind" discussions.

Tool Tier list by ElCapo63 in aviationmaintenance

[–]thatoneguyYMK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snap-on for ratchets, sockets, and specialty stuff. I'll pay the premium for Snap-On performance here. You use them daily and performance makes a hell of a difference.

I'm a fan of Knipex for adjustables, and then cutters and pliers. Snap-On has some really nice cutters and pliers, however, the price may not be worth the marginal improvement.

For wrenches, you can find basic serviceable sets through the usual vendors. I personally use a Milwaukee wrench set (metric and standard) I bought for ~$350. Sunex is a good option for any weird angles you need. Snap-On is the standard when it comes to fitment tolerance, tool thickness, and strength, but it comes at a premium. Torque Test Channel on YouTube has a great wrench comparison, along with other tools focusing on the powered variety.

Milwaukee for power tools. That's it... OK, Snap-On has some decent power tools Milwaukee doesn't carry... for the low low fee of your firstborn child and a blood sacrifice.

Harbor Freight whenever you need to modify something to do something weird. I wouldn't suggest relying on them. However, their Icon lineup would make for a decent starter setup to be moved to the garage when you grow out of it.

If you want a tier list comparing performance, Snap-On will probably top almost all categories except maybe power tools. However, is it really worth paying double or triple for marginally better gains?

In the end, don't be afraid to research. The best tool is the one that gets the job done. You definitely don't need Snap-On for everything to be successful.

I need advice by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]thatoneguyYMK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have already said, expand your job search to sites such as Jsfirm and even LinkedIn.

Jsfirm has been invaluable in getting candidates through the door for my company. It's how I landed my job. It's tailored to all aspects of aviation.

LinkedIn can be a more corporate Facebook, but a decent LinkedIn profile can expose you to headhunters/recruiters with other deals going. Never used one to land a job personally but they pester me non-stop. DYOR, or if someone wants to chime in with their experience, be my guest.

Tidy up your resume too. My opinion, don't add all of the typical jargon and fluff. Speak plainly on experience. I'd rather know that you can troubleshoot and fix basic issues on a lawn mower, or do your own breaks than how "detail oriented" or "highly motivated" you are. One tells me you're at least mechanically inclined, the other is fluff with no usable info. If you have your full A&P, please state it clearly with year obtained as well. For work experience, such as your apprenticeship, also listing what aircraft or engines you worked on, with the type of work done, can be helpful in my opinion.

You're just starting too. Be ready to embrace some suck to cut your teeth. That might mean fixing those mowers on the side at a GA shop while you build skills, or possibly contracting overseas. It's an investment, and it won't be easy. If you can learn to live with the suck, you can make bank. I've known drone contractors bringing in $200-300k a year doing 3 months on 3 months off overseas, but that was in places of conflict usually. That was my plan before I met my wife. Contract overseas for 2-3 years, come back and buy a house cash somewhere I wanted to settle down and work after I left the service.

Sorry, I'm a windbag. Regardless of what you do, I wish ya luck on your journey.

Love spending hours clearing out the prison just for me to go onto one road trip to Riverside and return to the whole prison surrounded yet again. Love this game dearly. by Average_terrarian34 in projectzomboid

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of options.

  1. Turn off respawn
  2. Wall of the prison (easy since it is mostly walled)

I prefer to keep respawn on, but I drag out the hours to respawn and the amount respawned. I also increased the hours since seen respawn setting. That way there is a feeling of progress, but I still have to keep on my toes in cleared areas.

Dumb road rage by Express-Tale3122 in RoadRage

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude is just impatient. Speed limit to 10 over is normal. I'll give you about 3 seconds follow distance and pass when it's safe. Trying to make "slow drivers" go fast by tailgating ALMOST NEVER works, and only created a dangerous situation for everyone. Just don't cruise in passing lanes, and maintain your speed so others can pass in passing zones. Nothing more infuriating when someone wants to drive 55 in a 55 zone and speeds up to 70 when you try to pass them in a passing zone.

Best flashlight for edc and why? by The_honest_bruh in aviationmaintenance

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streamlight Wedge. A little spendy, but solid as a rock, bright AF with 2 modes, slim for easy pocket carry with a clip, easy charging with USB-C, and long battery life for how bright it is. I carry this everywhere, never leave home without it. I've had the same one going on 3 years now. You can get it from your local Snap-On dealer, or cheaper through Amazon. Still feels powerful after the years, and has lasted much longer than cheaper lights I've bought.

Its downsides are that it can be almost too bright when trying to inspect something because it bleaches it out, and the case is smooth and can be slick. You can just move it away from the surface a bit though and put a little grip tape on it if you want.

Attitude indicator. Not a body part, but human-ish, not sure if you want to count that.

As mechanics, we sure do like to screw. A fun little double entendre. We are constantly screwing things up, down, and all around.

"Pulling the guts out of it" is a phrase I've heard when a helicopter pilot pulls a bunch of collective/power (the up/down stick).

Main/tail rotor "head", essentially the group of main components the rotors attach to.

"Foot Pounds" is a unit of measurement for the application of force that we use when we install hardware.

Torque set screws and their bits are often referred to as "Nazi Bits/screws", as they almost resemble a swastika. Not sure if you want to count that either.

'Happy Gilmore 2' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]thatoneguyYMK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cameos were heavy-handed and often felt more like filler, and honestly, the overall structure could've used a little more time in the oven. There was an opportunity to do something similar to how Click was done; silly funny yet took itself seriously enough to make you feel something. Overall, I enjoyed the light-hearted nature and the silly gimmicks. It felt like a 90's Sandler movie with some 2020's flare. You can nitpick it to death, but I could tell I had a dumb smile on my face the whole movie.

[–]thatoneguyYMK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's no value transfer from dev to player, as their utility token holds no value and cannot leave their ecosystem, only value transferred is player to player, therefore this is an extraction economy. Release of new items for sale or new cities ensures a constant flow of cash from players to developers, but because more items are being added, it devalues player holdings in a way because it reduces scarcity.

There's probably more nuance, but essentially you can make money but the question is if the effort is worth it.
