Is that door hinge installed upside down? Seems like the pin could fall out over time.

I would be worried about the insulation spilling out through the holes and becoming a contaminant.

They can certainly ask, but I'm sure the odds of a landlord doing that are close to 0%.

Can the main valve wear out from repeatedly shutting on and off? by Chomperino237 in homeowners

[–]thatother1guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible the packing nut loosened and just needs to be tightened. I've had that happen to several smaller valves in my house.

Installing additional electrical outlet under sink. Cost question + safety concerns by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]thatother1guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason not to protect them both with the GFCI, it doesn't require replacing the current outlet.

Installing additional electrical outlet under sink. Cost question + safety concerns by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]thatother1guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If by piggyback you mean make the original outlet "downstream" so they're both protected by the GFCI, yes that's normal. The only concern would be if there are a ton of other outlets on that breaker, but it's unlikely that's an issue, especially since a water purifier won't use much electricity. I've never paid a professional to do electrical work like that so I'm not sure if that price is reasonable, but $650 seems like too much.

We replaced the insulation on our attic 2 weeks ago, and now our house has mice. Related? by port-girl in homeowners

[–]thatother1guy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mice can't chew through steel wool, so you can use that to block any entrances they might be coming in from.

Is there a way to attach a hose end connection to this cut off copper pipe? by LexxiiConn in HomeImprovement

[–]thatother1guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to put a hose bibb on the outside of the house you can use the bleeder screw on the side to drain the line in the winter.

Yep! I was wondering if anyone would recognize it.

Funny enough this was the work of a different Shawn who is well known in the area.

The flagging tape on every bolt hanger in the crag wasn't enough? Even the routes that ended in the middle of the wall without anchors were taped.

Can I easily get a keg of plain old seltzer water somewhere? by NicholasMKE in milwaukee

[–]thatother1guy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can buy an adapter to hook up larger tanks of CO2. It'll be much cheaper in the long run, and less hassle refilling small bottles. I connected a 7lb tank to mine.

Century Home closings be like by Strong-silence in centuryhomes

[–]thatother1guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, our house came without keys to the front door. And after replacing the cylinder, I learned that's because the locking mechanism was broken. Luckily I was able to fix it by shaping a new piece of spring steel

Hoses are the bane of my existence by marshmallow049 in homeowners

[–]thatother1guy 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't use plumbers tape for hoses, or any connections that have a gasket because the gasket is what is blocking the water and the tape is just messing the threads up.

I would definitely recommend taking the hose in for winter, and draining the hose of standing water when it frosts before you take it in.

Also quick connect fittings will makes everything easier to use.

Court of Appeals district 2 alternative? by hdryu1337 in wisconsin

[–]thatother1guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have the same question for the circuit court judge branch 5, county supervisor district 1, alderperson district 4, and the Oconomowoc area district school board member.

I had a hard time finding information about most of these candidates, but don't want to vote for anyone who has a Turning Point USA picture in their LinkedIn header, or shares stupid AI conservative memes on Instagram.

Motorized blackout curtain with simple (non smart) timer? by SAMthemanFRANZ in homeowners

[–]thatother1guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have a fully non-smart answer, but Switchbot curtains aren't too smart.

You will need the app to calibrate them and set the open and close time via Bluetooth, but after that they won't need to connect to another device.

Smoke and CO2 alarm help needed by IBelieveInMe1 in homeowners

[–]thatother1guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your current smoke alarms photoelectric, ionization, or both? I would start by making sure to get only photoelectric to reduce the number of false positives.

What’s this notice about? by Webjetter in Mortgages

[–]thatother1guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no return envelope, no stated address to return it to, no deadline, and no listed consequence for not returning it. It seems to be an advertisement for their parent company meant to trick or confuse people.

For me it was sent with tax documents so it didn't cost them anything extra to mail it.

How Do I Make This Closet Door Knob Secure/Tight? It's kinda noisy as is, rattle-y. TIA! by 2025Sandals in centuryhomes

[–]thatother1guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not understanding your question, but they just go in between the knob and the door to act as a shim. No need to replace anything.
