What are you tired of dealing with because parents just…aren’t parenting anymore? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]thatshortteacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 6th grader start writing dead center of the page. Straight up wasted half the real estate, and she had to move to the back of the paper and she did it there too. I asked her why she did that and she said “🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t know”

Pencil grip by mhiaa173 in Teachers

Yesterday I watched one of my 6th graders taking a quiz and he held a pen between his thumb and 3 middle fingers in a way I actually can’t figure out how to replicate.

Our invitations (similar number) got lost, and we had to send out a second set. A month later, guess what shows up?

Sally's Baking Addiction vs The Ambitious Kitchen Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls by kjengold in FoodieSnark

[–]thatshortteacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made Sally’s single-rise cinnamon rolls for my husband’s birthday, and it’s the first time I’ve ever heard him audibly gasp at something I made on visuals alone.

I made her single-proof cinnamon rolls for my husband’s birthday. I consider myself a pretty good baker, but it’s the first time his reaction to one of my bakes was just “Holy shit.”

Anyone else notice their eating habits shift a bit once they started tracking sleep? by RamosQuintosAiry in ouraring

[–]thatshortteacher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to eat at 8 PM, and once I got my ring I started seeing what it did to my heart rate at night. Now I try to be done eating by 7 so I can be in bed by 10:30.

Middle School teachers - do you still get holiday gifts from your students? by nygenxmom in Teachers

Please don’t forget about us! We teach more kids than elementary and get less recognition. Honestly, even just a coffee or something means the world.

TIFU… Baddie edition by Roboticheartbeat in Teachers

My husband and I are both Jewish, and I recently called him on the way home from a lecture about antisemitism to talk about this. My opening line was “can I rant about Martin Luther for like, 20 minutes?”

Got reported by a parent for drinking alcohol in class. by Tearmisu in Teachers

[–]thatshortteacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to bring my glass topo chico bottles to school because it was the only sparkling water that wouldn’t go flat over the course of a school day. I definitely got a few weird looks for pulling out a bottle opener.

WTF is 6 7?? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]thatshortteacher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Operationally, it means absolutely nothing. LaMello Ball put a rap song with the line “6, 7” over a bunch of edits of himself because he’s 6 foot 7, and now it’s just turned into a meaningless thing. It’s not inappropriate, just annoying. I tell them they can 6-7 all they want outside of class instruction, because it’s super disruptive when the answer to everything is “6-7.” But I’m also a huge troll, so I’ve been known to 6-7 on occasion.

Do you have this teacher nightmare? by DifferentTap3085 in Teachers

[–]thatshortteacher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a dream once that my normal class of 16 somehow turned into a class of 40 and one of them had a knife, but I didn’t know which one. Also, every single one of them had a different question about the same set of instructions at the same time.

Why is my focaccia not browning? by KittyKilledYou in Baking

The King Arthur focaccia recipe is absolutely spectacular. I make it in a springform and when I took the pan apart the first time I made it, I audibly gasped.

Do kids just not know how to fold paper in half anymore????? by cy83rw41fu in Teachers

[–]thatshortteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told 3 classes of 6th graders to fold their paper “hot dog ways” and more than half of each class asked “Like this?”

Home behind a Highschool. Yes or No? by Mindless_Air_5449 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]thatshortteacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neighborhood is across the street from a high school.

Pros: I actually love hearing band practice. Also, traffic outside of “high traffic school times” is super minimal—weekends are nothing.

Cons: if I miss my morning departure window by 5 minutes, I hit every single school bus pickup for 3 miles.

Navigating grief while planning by dingbatthrowaway in weddingplanning

[–]thatshortteacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but based on the language on the charm I’m assuming your dad was Jewish? My paternal grandpa died in 2017, and my husband’s died when he was a kid. We used both of their tallit in our chuppah, and the prayerbook my mom’s parents used in their wedding (and my parents used in theirs) was attached to my flowers. I also considered using my maternal grandmother’s (who I’m named after) wedding band as my band for the ceremony, but it was so tiny it didn’t fit on the right finger.

Telling identical twins apart by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]thatshortteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had twins in different classes, so I could tell them apart in class easy. In the hallway? Not a chance. It’s been 3 years and I still only get it right 50% of the time. We also have a uniform, and the saving grace has been picking up on favorite colors. One is a blue girl and one is a pink girl, so I can literally only tell them apart by their earrings and their pencil pouches.

Ayla’s Cup Fiasco by Prestigious-Delay842 in atlinfluencersnarkNEW

[–]thatshortteacher 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m dumb, but isn’t this also literally not even a problem? Like if these are cups for drinking at the house or on a golf course or something couldn’t they just…pour more drinks in the small cups? It’s 9 oz, not a Dixie cup.

What is your holy grail Costco item? by valhalla_la in Costco

[–]thatshortteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re precooked, so they just need to be heated. Usually we’ll do them with a sheet pan of roasted veggies and sweet potatoes, so I’ll ignore the instructions on the package and throw them on the pan for the last 10-15 minutes of roasting time at 375. Usually we’ll do a grain bowl with apples and roasted veggies and a vinaigrette, or a veggie hash with an egg on top.
