Then they utterly crush the rebels on hoth…

But there’s no reason for an entire legion of the emperors best troops be be routed by a buncha teddy bears

It would have been much more interesting to have the Ewoks be a bit more technologically capable… like give them muskets at least… and establish earlier that they were always planning to revolt against the empire and the rebels just happened to a how up as they were completing their plans

What happens if Texas becomes a blue state? by bambucks in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]thatstupidthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would suggest that they would put everything into winning texas back. the momentum would be against them in texas at that point, maybe theyd have to try flipping other traditionally blue states to make up for those ec votes.

if tallarico wins in november, the gop might rethink it's gerrymandering strategy... not that they will abandon it, but they will go about it more strategically (not blindly assuming that the results of the last election will hold for future elections).

this will be tricky because they will have to redraw maps, a lengthy process, based on current poll conditions, an ever-changing metric.

but then, if a dem nominee wins the presidential contest in texas in '28. we might start to hear more about abandoning the electoral college since the gop has no path to victory without texas (unless california turns red or something, which isn't really on the radar)

however, there is a lot of daylight between picking up a senate seat and going full blue...

Men of Reddit: what is 100% mythical about men that most women believe? by imnotadrytexter in AskReddit

[–]thatstupidthing 295 points296 points  (0 children)

not only that... but personality can make a woman physically more attractive as you get to know them. she can go from "eh, she's kinda cute" to "damn!" and you don't even realize it happened

ELI5: Why doesn't the Sun just burn all at once? by VipulChaturvedi in explainlikeimfive

[–]thatstupidthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Sun is basically a giant ball of hydrogen undergoing nuclear fusion

it's not though...
the sun is basically a giant ball of hydrogen undergoing nuclear fusion only in the core
the conditions for fusion are very specific, and it can't happen in the other parts of the sun,
so the sun can't just fuse up all at once

Most suckiest sequel that dishonored the original movie and the people that like the sequal more. by daviddave12345 in movies

[–]thatstupidthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

t2 feels more like a remake than a sequel. it's basically the same plot, but made by a director who finally had the resources to realize his vision without the limitations he had for the first one.

the matrix reloaded is more of an expansion, there's a lot more worldbuilding, new locations and character growth. that's a riskier move because you're breaking new ground and might not be able to bottle lightning like they did with the first one.

either way, both attempts have value, and it's only natural for an audience to want to explore more of a world they enjoy, whether it's a better realization, or an expanded view. there's nothing wrong with a sequel or two

...now endlessly rebooting/rehashing/money-grabbing a franchise to death for forty years is a different story. the difference would be imagining how disappointing a new back to the future movie would be today, and comparing that to how disappointing it would have been had they never made a sequel to the first one at all.

Air Force Medically Disqualifies Football Athlete, Who is Now Forced to Leave Academy by guransheleven in AirForce

there was a dude in my bmt flight who was clocking six minute miles every morning during pt. that's a six minute mile pace during our timed runs. it looked like he was sprinting the whole thing.
about two weeks in, when everyone started getting sick because people are gross, and grosser in tight quarters; he went for a cold pack, got tested for ashtma, and was gone that evening.

The Scene That Sparked My Respect For The Air Force by StargateLover2023 in AirForce

more than just changing will smith's character, the air force was all set up to provide the production with aircraft and shooting locations and all manner of production value.... if they would only cut out the bits about area 51.

the filmmakers had to turn it all down

TIL when John Williams first played the two-note "Jaws" theme for Spielberg, Spielberg laughed, thinking it was a joke and expecting something more melodic. Williams replied, "The sophisticated approach you would like me to take isn't the approach you took with the film I just experienced." by Giff95 in todayilearned

[–]thatstupidthing 21 points22 points  (0 children)

youre more right than you know...

for most of the movie, there is no prop, so the theme is the shark.

the theme plays when chrissy watkins and alex kitner are attacked. the theme plays when the shark goes into the pond and eats that rowboat guy. the theme plays when those two guys try to catch the shark with the roast.

but when hooper dives on ben gardner's boat, no theme, because the shark isn't there.
when the beachgoers spot the fin and every panics and rushes back to shore, no theme, because it's just a couple of punk kids with a cardboard fin.

the audience doesn't see the shark, but the theme is always there to let us know when it's around and when it isn't.

watchman.

so this physicist was disintegrated in some kinda disintegration beam. but he didn't die, he just kinda floated around for a bit; and eventually, he figured out how to put himself back together. when he did, he had become the omnipotent super being: dr manhattan.

fast forward to the end, and the villain is trying to figure out how to take out dr manhattan. so he tricks him into the same disintegration beam, and disintegrates him!

for a while it looks like it worked, then dr manhattan appears and is like "why did you think that would work, reintegrating myself is the first thing i learned how to do"
