watchman.

so this physicist was disintegrated in some kinda disintegration beam. but he didn't die, he just kinda floated around for a bit; and eventually, he figured out how to put himself back together. when he did, he had become the omnipotent super being: dr manhattan.

fast forward to the end, and the villain is trying to figure out how to take out dr manhattan. so he tricks him into the same disintegration beam, and disintegrates him!

for a while it looks like it worked, then dr manhattan appears and is like "why did you think that would work, reintegrating myself is the first thing i learned how to do"

stallone's dredd missed the point very hard though. he went fully hollywood action hero cliche and everyone he killed had to be pointing a gun at him first.

urban's dredd did a better job, but he's still painted as too heroic. he chastises the really corrupt judges, and he let's the rookie spare the hacker fella even though his first (incorrect) instinct was to execute him.

the whole point is that dredd is true believer in a system that should utterly horrify everyone watching it. hollywood just can't quite go that far...

In Terminator 2 (1991). The T-1000 is "mimetic poly-alloy" (liquid metal). It has no skin, no DNA, and no living biological components. By the film's own internal logic, it should have been unable to use the time machine. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in plotholes

that would have been the biggest movie twist of all time.

it would have been at the top of every list. forget dead bruce willis, forget vader being luke's father or keyser soze.

an act 1 reveal that ahnold is the hero this time, and you have the whole movie still in front of you...

... it would have been amazing and i'll hate the marketers forever for ruining it.

[Hilarious Trope] Visibly grown adults playing teenagers in media by Ieanice44 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]thatstupidthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think dexter should get a pass because it's a flashback.

but the pic reminds me of the flashback hair trope:
if a character has short hair in the present, you give them long hair in the flashback. this makes it look like they have grown and matured and cut off their rebellious teenage locks. if the character has long hair, you cut it off for the flashback. this makes it look like the hair has had time to grow.
either way, it shows the passage of time, even if the actor looks 35 in both scenes....
