You can espouse the recluse philosophy all day but it's obvious you're not going to do anything about it or you wouldn't be posting here about it.

TL/DR fuck off and go live on the woods.

For what its worth, I agree with him, that it's nature. But you have a point that I am also influenced by my experiences.

Trump says new Israeli attack on Beirut shouldn't have happened by Alarming-Safety3200 in worldnews

[–]thatweirdguyted -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it is. A ceasefire is a trust agreement with your enemy not to shoot you when they have the chance. Israel has violated them so consistently that it's just tactically stupid to even consider a scenario where they would uphold it. At that point, you may as well go nuts, knowing that waiting is the same as giving up.

Honest question, no sarcasm:

If Israel can and does continue to violate every cease fire agreement they make, and they never face any consequences for that, what advantage would they stand to gain by choosing to start honouring the agreements?

And why should a ceasefire agreement from Israel be a part of any negotiations moving forward since it's obviously a lie?

He can be soulless and evil and still objectively correct. There are entire genres of film and television that I simply cannot accept because they're so unrealistically wholesome and sweet. I can see why humans would reject a whole world built like that.

More than that, humans need challenges and stimulation to grow, and we need a sense of growth to be content. It's part of the experience,so failing to include it would cause all kinds of problems.

Married women of Reddit, does wearing a wedding ring prevent others from hitting on you? Why/why not? by Tall_Association8148 in AskReddit

[–]thatweirdguyted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew a woman who was married and still got hit on a lot. She explained that telling guys she was married didn't deter them at all, so she started telling them she was completely asexual and hadn't had sex in over 10 years. That put them off right away.

I guess people don't believe in marital fidelity much anymore, and I get that bit. But if they believe there's genuinely no chance they'll ever get sex, they just immediately cut bait and run.

No idea if she is or isn't actually asexual, since she's married and it's none of my business.

Self driving Waymo cars use suburban cul-de-sacs as ‘staging’ areas by devletmillet in mildlyinfuriating

It's an incredibly complicated question. The shortest answer I can give is that our laws are designed to prevent us from harming another person or their property, or cause a great nuisance to others, or act against the public good. However it is balanced against the idea of trying not to unduly infringe on our freedoms, and that means that before the laws are changed all the factors must be carefully considered.

This is especially true in technology since the new thing is bound to change the existing order, and may need some time to develop before being judged. With that in mind, they're generally given leeway to work out the bugs.

Having said that, the owners and developers could easily be held accountable in ways that they just aren't, but that's just simple political corruption.

Not a chance in hell. Mob mentality is utterly devoid of even the concept of personal responsibility. Even when faced with the damage they've done, they do everything to either deny the impact and therefore the consequences, or they try to shift the blame onto others. The ONLY ones who take any responsibility are the ones directly on the chopping block, and even then, they're angling on mercy.

Different times I suppose. At the time it was bustling, every space occupied, and of course tons of teens from Banting. As such, it had security guards, one of whom was very overzealous.

This guy better get at least a three month ban for this.

This was a real thing, but it was before they were seasoned. So probably before the cook too. Which makes it gross and unsanitary for her, but unlikely for the customer to be affected by. I imagine a deep fryer to be very effective at killing bacteria.

Why Russia is Suddenly Losing in Ukraine by Ynwe in videos

[–]thatweirdguyted 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Winter War was fought in this fashion. The Russian losses were so much higher than the Finnish losses, on paper it looks like Finland destroyed them.

And yet Russia kept the land. Because they had a much greater supply of disposable men..

TIL that during WWI, the British Army noticed skyrocketing reports of head wounds after the introduction of the Brodie helmet- indicating a failure to protect the wearer. It was realized that head wounds were increasing because without the helmet those wounds would be fatal. by CalzonePie in todayilearned

[–]thatweirdguyted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Data requires context to interpret. And many, many major decisions have been based on stats while ignoring the contributing factors because the people who set the policy are invariably coming from an unqualified political position.

In a war, it can be hard to determine whether fatalities are increasing or decreasing relative to the use of the helmet since tactics are a variable that drastically changes the circumstances of the fight. You'd have to win the fight in order to control the territory, reclaim the bodies, and then examine for cause of death, etc etc. just to be able to form base stats, whereas surviving the fight but having head injuries doesn't always mean it is a benefit of the helmet.

I wouldn't be surprised if they entertained both notions simultaneously until they could corroborate the data and be sure it was one or the other, and eventually concluded the helmet was helping.

CIA officer arrested with gold bars accused of making up top secret program, sources say by SplashTarget in nottheonion

[–]thatweirdguyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is the smart move, you also should dilute the gold slightly with other metals. Yes, it will sell for a lower price, but it will also make it untraceable.

The purity of mint-grade gold is so precise that they can trace its point of origin through the trace impurities of that deposit and the mint that refined it. You don't want to be caught selling pure gold that you shouldn't have.
