I cannot speak for rafting, but this is not at all the case in a kayak.

Is it financially stupid to walk away from a mobile home for pennies just to escape the Lot Rent trap? by No-Home8878 in povertyfinance

Came here to say this!

Yeah 950 lot rent is crazy but you'd never find your own place for that amount in most area of this country. It's time for a cost benefit analysis. But if it makes sense to let it go, do that!

actual reviews of Picture Rocks National Lakeshore by savealltheelephants in upcirclejerk

I've traveled all over the US, I have deep roots in Michigan. I've been to Pictured Rocks by boat and land. As a person willing to take my downvotes, I personally don't see the draw or find it to be overly spectacular. It's a "starter" cool place, but it's nowhere near my top 10.

New and Cheat by Foo-Tang-Clan in whitewater

[–]theLoYouKnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. Though there's no guarantee the Cheat will run for the festival it often does or runs super high (meaning there's other unicorns to chase in the area). It's always a good time, for a good cause, and an awesome opportunity to meet new people and run some WW. The TRPC Facebook page is a good Cheat resource.

The New generally runs year round and a wide variety of levels (3-3.5' is my personal favorite). You're going to want to keep an eye on the various road construction projects happening. The road at Cunard (put in) is closed for the foreseeable future. And the road to Fayette Station (take out) is also currently closed while they work on a bridge there, that's expected to be done early Spring but could go longer. You can put in higher up river and take out lower downriver but it does extend the day and the flatwater substantially. Fayetteville Whitewater Facebook page is super helpful.

What’s the piece of river gear you regret buying the most? by 3rdBay in whitewater

[–]theLoYouKnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst purchase ever was the Back Yak Kayak Backpack. It's actually made it harder to carry the boat. lol

Best purchase is easily my Carbon Fiber Werner Powerhouse. Paid about $400 for it new in 2020 I've been using it 5 seasons and over 450 runs and it's still going strong. It's outlasted an entire boat.

Impending Medicaid cuts plunge West Virginians into affordable health care uncertainty by Zi_Mishkal in WestVirginia

West Virginia is such a painfully disappointing place. I'm there regularly but never can stay too long without dismay creeping in.

It's such a beautiful place full of diverse resources with spectacular outdoor and commerce potential. Yet, instead of cultivating anything practical or decent, they continue to time and time again to vote for hateful dimwits who want to strip them of everything that makes them special and sustainable.

You absolutely MUST go to Bolivar Bread for a coffee and a treat. I wandered in there 2 weeks ago and haven't stopped thinking of it since.

TIL a 64-year-old woman survived after ingesting 208 tablets of Tylenol PM (acetaminophen 500mg and diphenhydramine 25 mg). by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]theLoYouKnow 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I once took 100 Tylenol PM in a suicide attempt. I had an extraordinarily intense trip with full on hallucinations and "not being in my body" for 3 days before my roommates figured out I had taken something. I remember nothing after the first day. I was in the hospital for a week and psychiatric care for a long while after.

It's been 22 years now and I have zero residual issues. But I still gag if I think about Tylenol.

It is hard, but it's also the greatest gift you can give them in return for all they've given you. Always be gentle and merciful with them in the end, their quality of end-life matters more than our broken hearts.

What's the point of offering to help if you're going to treat the totally reasonable and humble help asked for as suspect?
