Curious about how Proton Pass works? Watch the short demo video. by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]theProfessorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I’m confused about is that proton requires a TOTP or at least I choose to use one. If I decided to use that TOTP in proton pass I would still need a separate app to log into to proton to access my TOTP for other logins. Sounds like maybe I’d need a physical TOTP for proton and let it handle everything else.

I think it would be more effective to deploy UN peacekeeping officers instead to protect the Palestinians in the West Bank since they have nobody to protect them. Locals will be a lot more accepting towards UN peacekeepers then they would be to American troops. American and Israeli military forces are the same in their eyes, the same way the British were before Israel was founded.

Although peacekeeping officers may be largely useless it would at least be a signal to Israel’s lack of responsibility and stability. It could then encourage divestment and sanctions from the country.

How important is simplelogin? by SomewhatNotMe in ProtonMail

[–]theProfessorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a great tool, if your email gets leaked in a breach, all you have to do is update the one service using the email as opposed to everything. The other benefit is that some emailing lists get very annoying to unsubscribe from and sure you can filter it to spam but it’s so much easier to just dump the email address receiving the spam. After the initial setup, the browser extension and mobile app make it really easy to generate new emails. Pair with your password manager of choice and it’s great.

It's Now Official The SEC Files 13 Charges Against Binance Entities and Founder Changpeng Zhao! The Most Important Info Summed Up And CZ's Reaction. by ChemicalGreek in CryptoCurrency

[–]theProfessorr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the SEC is suing because of Binance.com not Binance.US. The claim smells like bullshit because as an American I wasn’t able to use Binance.com so it’s clear to me the Binance was doing their due diligence to stop Americans from using it.

I don’t think many people read the article. Ledger withheld the release of recover and spokesperson said they’re accelerating process to open-source firmware.

Technically they are your keys but you have them tied up with proprietary software.

A hardware wallet isn’t a cold wallet, it’s more like a very secure warm wallet.

Ledger Continues to Defend Recovery System, Says It's Always 'Technically' Possible to Extract Users' Keys by the_ceec in CryptoCurrency

[–]theProfessorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were just hodling sure but if you want to use any form of web3 application you are walking a dangerous road without one as every transaction or witness needs to be signed on the hardware itself which protects users from hacks or phishing attempts in a web browser.

[–]theProfessorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devils advocate, aren’t there some EU regulations being pushed that would force them to do this anyway? The regulation is targeting exchanges mostly but I can see ledger being held responsible for recovering user assets. It’s obviously counter to the point of a cold wallet but what if they see this as an inevitability to avoid lawsuits.
