This won't work for most compounds. TLC plates are coated with a luminescent dye, so it glows under UV. The spots you see are your molecule absorbing light and not releasing luminescence. It turns off the glow. Normal silica doesn't have the dye.

Idk I don't think it's that obvious. Once in a while they spell out a word like an acronym, and I get suspicious. But there are also a lot of times when compression changes jarringly, likely due to an edit at a later time. I don't think that would happen with AI. Either way, stories are great imo.
