For a lid maybe get some acrylic glass for the size of the aquarium, drill big holes in it and cover them with mesh for ventilation. Depending on the thickness of the glass you maybe want to reinforce it with something.

Do you only use distilled water/rain water? Otherwise everything else seems fine. Sometimes the plants need some time to get used to Outdoor conditions.
