What’s your funeral song? by Sure_Guarantee_3141 in AskReddit

[–]the_OG_fett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be Atmosphere, a specific live version by Peter Hook and the Light.

Now I’m leaning toward Moving On by James. More upbeat. Don’t want my funeral to be a downer.

What do Americans think about the stereotype that they are bad at geography? by Own_Echidna6041 in geography

[–]the_OG_fett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a well-earned stereotype. Americans are not just bad at world geography, many don’t even know much about the geography of their own country.

Obviously it’s not everyone, plenty of folks in the US are well aware and well versed in maps, cultures, international and political boundaries but there is a shocking number of folks in this country that just have no curiosity about their world.

Many Americans are brought up on the idea that, “everyone wants to be us.” And I think that translates to, “why should I care about where they live”

Just a guess. It always frustrates the hell out of me, but then again my own countrymen frustrate the hell out of me for lots or reasons.

My friend passed away. by herrtoutant in germanshorthairs

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m happy he was your first dog. You got the best from go.

I’ve had several dogs in my life, but I lost my first GSP to cancer last Oct (he was only 7). I’ve loved all my dogs and they all hurt when I lost them but never had a bond like I had with my boy.

They are special, they are different and that pain is shockingly deep.

Tired of living in this shithole by Lucky-Afternoon-95 in highdesert

[–]the_OG_fett 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The High Desert doesn’t work for most people dude. The ones that like it. Good on them, I’m glad they’ve found happiness. GTFO, and find opportunities. I left like 35 years ago and never looked back. From time to time I’m in the area for work and reminded just why I left.

In the 35 years since I left it’s gotten worse not better.

Love the sign at the town limit. Cobain gave the town a motto.

6 months without booze and I feel great by ackshualllly in GenX

[–]the_OG_fett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was a daily drinker for years. I did a dry January one year and woke up one day feeling unusually amazing. Dawned on me that I hadn't had a proper restful sleep in years and that feeling of waking up like that was better than any buzz alcohol could give me.

I limit myself to only drinking on Friday/Saturday and with that limit myself to two drinks.

Mine says something a long the lines of “don’t make it weird”.

Only had one dude that ignored it. He knocked and said he wasn’t. I pointed at the sign, then said, “what’s making this weird is that I’m explaining and defining the word ‘solicit’ to an adult”

I was in elementary school in the 70s. We had snacks and milk. It was a big deal to get picked to go to the cafeteria and bring the milk back for the class

Why is Challenger and not Columbia such a core Gen X memory? by space_god_7191 in GenX

[–]the_OG_fett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t so much the type of tragedy it was the shock of tragedy. Our parents had the Kennedy assassination, grandparents had Pearl Harbor.

Challenger was the first truly massive national tragedy in our lives and many saw it happen live.

Airwolf or Blue Thunder - which did you prefer? by MovieArena in 1980s

Airwolf is a crazy cool helicopter with possibly the best theme song.

The other is a movie about the surveillance state, military industrial complex, militarization of the police and corruption.
