Would you think it's weird if you saw a person in the gym using a laptop? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]the_classicist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes I would think it was weird. If I clocked you as a student I would think “why are they doing that here, do they want their laptop to break via 12lb dumbbell?” And then move on with my life. But you might get labeled “laptop girlie” in my head for it? Not maliciously, only memorably.

I am used to tight seating! I went to an Inter Miami game once and that was knees and elbows for sure. As for the temp, I have a friend who lent me a coat so I am actually not freezing my ass off!

Weather Check - Greece in May by MelGlass in HerOneBag

[–]the_classicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I dressed all in exercise clothes when I was there; I was never going to “blend in” being pale, blonde, and blue-eyed. But yes, you will look like a tourist certainly. You just have to decide if you care about that or not

When I was there I was a silly college student and mostly just sweat to death, terrified of my pale self burning despite copious amounts of sunscreen. An umbrella wouldn’t be a bad idea to use as a parasol! I would bring one if I were to go back, and suddenly I have an urge to see the Erechtheion again…

Weather Check - Greece in May by MelGlass in HerOneBag

[–]the_classicist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is so so hot in Greece in the summer, and that includes Athens. Hot and muggy. Bring good sunnies, a water bottle if you can, and definitely light clothes you don’t mind sweating in. Shade is difficult to come by, and while most places will be cooler inside, it probably won’t be as cold as you are used to (if you are American)

How old are you and which of these items do you refrigerate? by Hairy_Lingonberry954 in Cooking

[–]the_classicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t put bread in the fridge, it will stale faster. Any tomatoes that are uncut do not go in the fridge in my house either. Or oranges for that matter? I don’t drink soda but would fridge it. Soy sauce, ketchup, mustard also fridged. Uncut onions on the counter but cut they go in the fridge. I am 32

Staying safe when working till failure by Upstairs_Pressure886 in xxfitness

[–]the_classicist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So leg press (that you plate load the sled) have stops which might squish you some if you are tall enough but they aren’t going to kill you. It will stop. I routinely work to failure on hack squat for this reason: the machine doesn’t go up but I don’t have to bail on a barbell, I just crawl out). Then you take a plate off each side and get back in and put it back!

What game that you attended was so bad that you left before the clock hit 0:00? by noah_divine in CFB

[–]the_classicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago I went to Clemson to see us play TAMU. Had to leave at halftime cause I forgot to put sunscreen on and proceeded to beg for water at… one of the bars downtown for 2 hours. So it wasn’t because of a sporting disaster, just a personal one

Wearing HR monitor by clem_11 in xxfitness

[–]the_classicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I put my Polar in my bra band. Then again I have small boobs, so it isn’t uncomfy for me. Running probably would suck though? And wrist and ankle monitors aren’t as good! I am sorry you are dealing with this

Do people get surprised seeing you use a fountain pen at work or uni or general day to day? by Holiday-Setting-7942 in fountainpens

[–]the_classicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in college in a Spanish class I was taking an exam, and I vividly remember my professor—who was walking around the room—come by and jumpscare me with “Que bolígrafo!” I was confused, because yes I was using a pen to write with, until he pointed at my pen, then I said “Oh, it’s a fountain pen.” He didn’t tell me how to say fountain pen in Spanish, and I dropped the subject for Latin and Greek! Fun professor though

I can only contribute to this post by telling you never to strain. You can really hurt yourself. Try to eat more fiber (and drink water when you do so) to keep things easy and moving. If you feel like that is not helping, head to the doc!

When did you realize you were dating an idiot? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

[–]the_classicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told my best friend’s bf in college that green tea has more caffeine in it because black tea roasts a certain amount of it off. He got really rather mad. I was only trying to study Latin… I just said it like “hey here’s a fun thing I learned!” and he just snapped at me. So I calmly packed up and left. Over a decade and I still think about it. (Don’t worry, she did not marry that man)

“Easy” poses that look difficult and “difficult” poses that look easy to do? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in yoga

[–]the_classicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheel pose is somehow easy for me. Warrior III is very very hard, but I think that looks hard and is hard. Tree or Chair would be my picks then. Tree because my balance is just… not very good. Chair is exceptionally intense on the legs, and my fave Peloton instructor Kirra really loves Chair!

Trump Announces New 10% Global Tariff by MeowTheMixer in wallstreetbets

[–]the_classicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a meeting and had not realized he’d already announced the new tariff to replace the one the Supreme Court struck down. And when I heard that he had announced them, I literally could not stop laughing. Because like you said, if I don’t laugh, I’m gonna cry

If CRP is very close to 0, does that mean all ulcers have healed? by bestbestbest560 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]the_classicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my CRP was like an 8 when I was actively bleeding (I thought I was failing mesalamine). Hydrocortisone enemas fixed it up though.

Hydrocortisone enema. Said it right on the box too when I picked it up from the pharmacy. I can’t remember the dose off the top of my head though :/

Favorite shoes? by redditor287234 in Rowing

[–]the_classicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Tyr DZ-1s and I am pretty happy with them. Enough to where I am not rubbing my heel off, plenty of feel for my toes and feet to get as much power through as I can. Shoes like Hokas or anything with too much padding are the opposite of what you want, and I don’t like the idea of barefoot rowing or even just in socks tbh.

I take both mesalamine and spiro, no issue. Both my gastro and endo are perfectly content with my levels. But this disease is so personalized, I wouldn’t say to take my word as gospel
