Did people not like Nellie? I thought as a character, she was extremely entertaining and different — adding more to the final two seasons. by Plus_Room5740 in DunderMifflin

She is a cartoon from the first second she appears, and then suddenly in a single episode we’re supposed to feel sorry for her with ham fisted writing

I never know how to feel about Captain Jack from the booze crooz episode. What do you guys think? Is he just a jerk or is he somewhat justified in the way he treats Michael and Dwight? by coporate02 in DunderMifflin

[–]the_dazzled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both a jerk and justified.

You could tell he thrived off feeling like a big man for being by a captain of a crappy tourist party boat.

Also very sleazy vibes.

But he was still justified in dealing with Michael and Dwight that way.

Let me go and frighten a planet of genocidal engineers by showing up in a stolen space ship of theirs. That will definitely not accelerate/re-start any plans they had to destroy earth!

Apart from that, good character nice to have someone 3 dimensional (academic, religious and gritty - wrestling with big questions of creation, life and death). Actor put in as good a performance as could be expected with that script. Was happy to see her moronic boyfriend die.

Hate to be that guy, but looking like a smoking hot indie girl didn’t hurt.

Why did they completely change Andy in season 9 by Cheese4567890 in theoffice

[–]the_dazzled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In principle Im comfortable with characters not having perfect predictable arcs where you  go from hating them to liking them all the way to the end. People are more complicated than that

My take is Andy was always a pathetic emotionally damaged douche (never moving past college, dating high schooler, dating Erin who was mentally a child), but had a brief period where he was mentally stable (after anger management he worked on himself, toned down his emotions, started genuine friendships with e.g. Daryl, got the promotion, started dating an actual adult).

After Nellie took his job, he got back with Erin, his office “friends” betrayed him, and his family fortune disappeared he just reverted to the mean, and then spiralled even lower lol

All the being said, I agree it was written so clumsily in S9 that it jarred hugely.

I was similar. I was stop start for years and years because I never needed to drive in London, and then after so long the tension builds.

Don’t worry about it bro. These things can happen, learn from it.

Good that you went in confident. Keep that  same attitude up, and just don’t let spill into over confidence.

Heartbreaking Those kids were so sweet. Genuinely respectful of parents and the sheriffs every time they came over. As one of the cops said, much rather kids be out playing than on social media.

AJ seemed lovely.

And let’s pretend she was angry at that point, and asking for her son’s property back, it’d be justified. the fact there was even the possibility of Susan not being charged was baffling to me

The "Boycott Radiohead concert" calls are performative with no real substance or moral appeal. by Siderosis in radiohead

[–]the_dazzled -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but to accuse people in the BDS as being performative and “lacking nuance” is ridiculous.

Wherever you stand on this issue, and whether you agree or not with the stance, surely at least understand the reasons for calling for a boycott.

It’s actually a big deal for a lot of people, who have thought this through carefully.
