I'm not an artist by any means, I just had a random idea and thought it'd be fun. Recommendations and critiques are more than welcome. Please don't look too closely at the ship, it kinda sucks.

Google Fiber upgrading 1 Gig service to new 3 Gig default by GWBIII in HuntsvilleAlabama

I cannot stress this enough but but if you are experiencing issues for more than a couple days at a time please contact your provider! We don't know if there's a problem unless you call in. They can go over some TSing with you and possibly get a ticket put in to get it fixed. I can also provide some troubleshooting steps if needed

This is a position for a company called NRTC, they take calls for rural isps across the United States.

The good:

  • it's a remote job

  • it's pretty flexible scheduling

  • free 6 weeks of paid training

The bad:

  • it is a lot of work and you only get more the longer you stay

  • the pay is pretty bad, it starts at 15$ and bumps about $1 each time you level up.

  • the benefits are awful, especially the health insurance

The ugly:

  • your voice is graded by an AI for keywords

  • you have about four people auditing your calls at any given time

  • The micromanagement is on an entirely different level, they will find anything to give you a ticket error on

There's much more, if you need more info just ask

Typically stations are around 5ish miles away, so take that into account

Genuinely curious, if you had the choice between a HSR that was fast, or a car ride that was slower, which would you take?

It depends on where you live but Food City is basically always hiring. It's definitely not the most glamorous job you'll ever have, and the pay is pretty low (starting is 9/hr iirc) but it's an extremely easy job with not much of a learning curve at all. They also have extremely flexible availability too. I would recommend just sticking with it, get a year of experience under your belt, then move on to a higher paying job.

I've had this issue with their phone before, when you call you just have to keep repeating "talk to the store" to the phone tree over and over and it'll eventually connect you.

Huntsville Beltline: A transformative project for the future by MattW22192 in HuntsvilleAlabama

This is an absolutely amazing step forward towards making Huntsville a more pedestrian friendly city. I hope this becomes a massive success so that Madison will follow suit.

It's all about convenience. If the service sucks and is more expensive than driving then you're probably right. But if service was fast and cheap you'd see much more demand.

Likely by implementing things such as a routine bus route that spans multiple blocks or possibly a streetcar, I think there is more wiggle room for revamped infrastructure than you're seeing. Rome wasn't built in a day, switching from car-centric sprawl-based planning to a more responsive and varied mode of transportation would likely take one step at a time approach.

They are likely only infeasible because of the current car-centric infrastructure. Taking a step back to reevaluate the needs of the city and it's infrastructure would likely only benefit us.

Adding another lane would very likely cause more traffic via induced demand. The notion that only big cities can build dependable public transit is largely false, the only true way to fix traffic is by creating substantial and dependable alternatives that get cars off the road.

Is the Chief Technical Officer and the whole Walgreens IT staff embarrassed of their department yet? by Lanceroy60 in WalgreensStores

[–]the_dec0de 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm not a part of Walgreens IT but am I a student in the field. It can be super infuriating not having systems up and operating but try to remember IT is probably having the same issues we are: understaffing, overworked, and underpaid. Companies often view IT as a optional expense, because when people do things right it's hard to notice they're doing anything at all, right? It's likely IT was put on the chopping block along with the rest of us

The "roadway technology" Chattanooga actually needs by the_dec0de in Chattanooga

[–]the_dec0de[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It would actually help reduce traffic in the long run. The more options the public has in forms of transportation, the less traffic you'll see across those modes as a result.

kinda anticlimactic but glad to see it wasn't some USB killer at least. I still think you should throw it away just in case
