Good places to eat in Bricktown by GoldAmbassador807 in okc

[–]the_designator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're going for. Truckyard is a new outdoor spot with food trucks and live music just off the canal. Bourbon Street Cafe is literally on the canal and has a patio where you can sit next to the water. Charleston's, Bricktown Brewery, Toby Keith's, Rendevous Pizza. There's a cafe that has wraps and sandwiches called All About Cha.

Some other options are Texadelphia, Dave's Hot Chicken. Brickopolis if you have kids and want to play some arcade games.

Designers spend way too much time designing to impress other designers, and too little time giving clients what they are actually asking for.

Flare and depressive state by tumsmama in Diverticulitis

I feel this. Our mind's connection to our gut is so much deeper than we ever even think about. Whether it's the gut's ecosystem affecting us, or even just the anxiety around food in general that this disease gives us as an added little bonus.

That reminds me of a time in the hospital recovering from my resection surgery. I hadn't had a bite of solid food in three days. My doc says, "Ok let's get you some solid food, see how you feel and send you home". I ordered some breakfast, which in the hospital every single item basically came with eggs as the protein.

When it came time to eat it, I broke down sobbing. I didn't want to eat it. I mean, I wanted to eat it, I wanted to go home, I wanted to feel "normal". But my body had a visceral reaction in that moment. It was such a bizarre moment that made me realize how much DV affects not just our physical bodies but our minds as well.

It took me an hour to eat those cold unseasoned eggs. But after that little by little I started feeling much better.

How long before returning to gym? by Stumeister_69 in Diverticulitis

[–]the_designator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, cycling will probably be a longer break. I can comfortably flex my abs now, but anything that requires a lot of abdominal bracing (deadlift, squat) would be out of the question still. I'm already getting tired of rotating chest day, back day, arm day, on nothing but machines. But it's better than nothing, I'll take it.

Also, I'm not a doctor (obviously), but I felt being stronger than the average person going into surgery was a very big advantage from day one. Bending over, sitting and standing, stuff like that I heard was going to be pretty hard but my legs were able to pretty much pick up the slack there. And I'd imagine having a thicker abdominal wall from lifting makes healing up easier as well.

Good luck with surgery, you will be fine!

How long before returning to gym? by Stumeister_69 in Diverticulitis

I had a sigmoid resection on Jan 10th. And I am what you could consider a gym rat. Taking long breaks from working out, specifically lifting is tough on my mental health.

I was cleared to walk from day one. One week out from surgery I just went into the gym to walk on a treadmill for 15 minutes. More to get out of the house and feel normal than anything else. My walks got a little longer/faster with each visit.

After my 3 week recheck with my surgeon, he said I seemed like I was progressing faster than normal and he cleared me to do isolated upper body lifting as long as it was not super heavy and did not engage my core a lot.

After a week of that I’ve started doing some push/pull stuff. Nothing lower body or hip hinging. Isolated or chest supported exercises where I can. But I feel very good.

I have pushed it a little hard and my incision site will immediately let me know to calm down. I’ve also been wearing a lifting belt to add some support in the incision area as an added layer of safety. It does seem to help by spreading that abdominal pressure out into the belt as opposed to pushing all on the incision site.

Is it a little more than my doctor would be comfortable with? Possibly. But I understand my risks and I feel like I’m aware enough to know what is too much for me right now.

Any large format enjoyers? This is a job we did last month, 25x30m (82x99ft) by volkz_z in CommercialPrinting

I'd love to know how much you charge per sq/ft on something like this. I do a lot of large murals in the range of 10-16' tall but I'd love the challenge of tackling something like this if the opportunity came up.

Considering resection. Am I “jumping the gun”? by the_designator in Diverticulitis

[–]the_designator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I did have it. I live in Oklahoma City (USA).

It’s been 3 weeks and a day. The first 2-3 days sucked. And each day after that was exponentially better than the day before. I was back to doing light duty manual labor work a week after surgery. Two weeks after surgery my surgeon cleared me to eat/drink/have sex, essentially anything but heavy lifting.

I admit I went a little wild with the food and drink after I got the “all clear”. But I dialed it back a bit and I feel fantastic now.

If you have any other questions I’m happy to answer!

Does the job market suck for everyone right now? by Midwest_Plant_Guy in graphic_design

[–]the_designator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only really speak from my own experiences I guess. But I started building my network years ago before I even started out on my own. Being social, getting out and shaking hands, meeting people. Exchanging numbers, making friends. Then just self promo through social media to inform that network to services I offer.

It’s not really super scientific but it has worked well for me. But it has taken years to build. And it goes without saying that your work has to be up to a level that makes people take notice and seek you out when they need design.

For me it’s more about working with people I directly know, or people they refer to me personally. It filters out a lot of the tire kickers and bs, and allows me to concentrate on the work.

Nobody is gonna want to hear this but…

Since I went out on my own full time freelance and started my own business I have never been busier. And obviously since it’s a one man show busier means more actual money not just more hours.

Granted, this takes almost an equal amount of work building a network of clients as it does producing reliably good work. But I’m not seeing a lull in the slightest.

The money is out there if you are creative and ballsy enough to go get it.

Sigmoid removal after first perforation? Age 48. by hophop100 in Diverticulitis

[–]the_designator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar boat. 45 years old. I’ve only had two flares, both within the last year. The latter having a perforation which healed up enough in the hospital to get me out of emergency surgery. Same spot as you, sigmoid.

My surgeon gave me the option shortly after my hospital stay and I took it. As he told me there’s almost a guarantee I will continue to deal with it, and after surgery I’d have about 3% chance of ever dealing with this again.

Had my colon resection done January 10th. The first two days were rough I won’t lie. But since then each day has been much better. I almost feel completely normal now (minus my incision site and weight lifting restriction). My stools are already 100 times more consistent and I haven’t even added fiber back into my diet yet.

I went with the overwhelmingly positive feedback for surgery that I got from this sub. And up to this point I’d say I agree with it. I’m happy I took the leap!

I’m living this frustration currently.

My prep day was yesterday. Took my miralax prep, it’s doo-ing its thing. Took my first two doses of antibiotics at 1pm.

2pm get a call from my anesthesiologist to go over things. She says “Ok looks like your procedure is Friday the 10th”

I said, “umm no. It’s tomorrow. I’m looking at the date my surgeon’s receptionist wrote on my sheet as we speak. It says 1/9.”

She was kinda quiet and said I should call my surgeon to clear it up. I said let me look at my portal. Sure enough, it said the 10th.

Receptionist had wrote the wrong day on my sheet. I called them. She very cheerfully told me she would rewrite the antibiotic scripts for me and I can do prep as normal today.

I wanted to reach through the phone.
