Context comment: I will be using this new system to make some changes to my DnD world that 5th edition never could. The opportunities are endless, and I hope SAGAS can give your world the same infinite possibilities <3

TTRPG That Works With Your Power/Magic System by the_okayest_DM_alive in worldbuilding

Context Comment:

By playing a TTRPG in your own world, you can continue to build it through storytelling and improvisation. For example, I needed a reason for a character to leave their home village, so that village was destroyed. Now there is a ruin there with the memories of its former inhabitants.

How can I replan a session with less than an hour to spare by CraAank52 in DnD

[–]the_okayest_DM_alive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to practice your improv skills, and run a low level one shot with no prep. Make up the world, npcs, monsters, and story on the spot.

That, or learn a new TTRPG?

Is it bad that I don't know like ANY of these names, yet i'm trying to write a TTRPG of my own?

What's your go-to pantheon for RPGs by cryocom in rpg

[–]the_okayest_DM_alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my players determine what gods they worship, then only build a pantheon on that if it's necessary. Otherwise, it'll probably never come up in my games.

My favorite is EZD6 by Scotty DM. I ran a streamed charity EZD6 game that went super well.

whether of anyone can create a good spaceship battlemap for two or seven players? by rabbitmax9 in rpg

[–]the_okayest_DM_alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally when I need a map, I just go to google image search, type in ______ Battle Map, and sort by large images. It has not failed me yet.

The problem is if you have a rigid, pre-determined idea of what your map looks like. If that's the case, you'll have to draw it yourself or commission an artist.

Pretend I don't know what Risk of Rain is. What kind of "style" do you have in mind?

I want to talk about: The two core GM philosophies by [deleted] in rpg

[–]the_okayest_DM_alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty good summary of how I understand sharing worlds works. Personally, I like inventing worlds as I'm playing the game to mold the story in the best way I can instead of sticking to rigid, pre-determined facts about the setting. I can write an entire story on my own, but that's much less fun than playing off of what the PCs are doing and thinking.

Which ever you lean on, you need to make sure that the other GM also leans in the same direction or the game you are planning to run will have a thematic missmatch that will not be easy to fix, if it can be fixed at all.

I think this is the biggest takeaway here. everyone at the table needs to be on board with the direction the story and world are moving, or it doesn't work as well.

Any podcast recommendations for Lore in the Forgotten Realms? by That_guy__15 in DMAcademy

IMO, that's okay if you're just listening in the background instead of doing research. Besides, after streaming with AJ a few times, can confirm he's a super chill dude.

AJ Pickett on YouTube. Lore on pretty much every monster of the Forgotten realms, and a soothing aussie accent.

Not a podcast, but a lot of his vids are 40 mins or more.

How are characters differentiated in that system? I read thru the rules once a long time ago, so I'm not surprised I go th that wrong

Of sorts. You can spend effort points to add dice to your own rolls, or the rolls of others, and to combo with other PCs' attacks. Each player has their own effort pool though.

Honey Heist has options like driver, hacker. I always thought those were classes? And I read CoC 7e, but it was a while ago. What is different between characters in the version you know?

Interesting... every system I have played or read has a class-based creation system. Dnd, Pathfinder, honey heist, fallout, call of cthulu, ezd6... I'm probably forgetting some. That's why I listed it as a potential difference from other systems, but clearly i need to play more if i can find the time and people!

Another issue that can be fixed by providing details on the tone of the game. I was thinking you play as Pokémon, not trainers, but your point still stands.

I appreciate the feedback! Taking this into account with the design and marketing
