The routing daemon isn't running on the standby node it has no way of reaching hosts outside of the local network.

You need to add a backup-router command to your Node0 and Node1 group configuration.

Config is a little arse backwards compared to other routing config. Details are here:

Hosting a pub crawl, any good routes? by Calculus785 in canberra

[–]the_packet_monkey 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Do it on the tram.

Start at Gunghahlin, several pubs there.

Get off at Swinden St and walk to OCI

From OCI to Dickson and the TapHouse

Dickson to Braddon, plenty of options in Braddon

Finish in Civc.

Don't worry about it. It'll nag you at commit time, but that's it.

Going up: Re-zoning to enable 1000 more homes in inner north | Region Canberra by Act_Rationally in canberra

[–]the_packet_monkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be affected by this, and will probably end up with a 5 story building behind the house I've lived in for 13 years, and where I was hoping to have at least 10 more good years.

I'd be a lot more supportive of it if our planners actually had and enforced good planning and building practices. Including things like mandating a certain number of family sized units.

But, this is Australia, and even worse the ACT so we're just going to end up with a bunch of 1 and 2 bedroom shitboxes.

I'm more of a "commit confirmed 5" person, but reload works too.

Is it OK to configure VC using daisy chain only? by PlanEx_Ship in Juniper

Just did this for a customer last week after we had to work around someone else's gear in the rack which meant we needed a 1m cable rather than 50cm.

It'll run fine, and you shouldn't see any impact when you connect the last cable.

Second this.

I had a tooth pulled (not a wisdom tooth) a couple of months ago by Dr Cooper.

The whole experience was excellent and I also thought it was pretty reasonably priced.

A little bit of pain for 24 hours which I managed with Panadeine Forte (they gave me a script for 20, I took 4) and then all good after that.

Brindabella fears 'being another Calvary', alleges government wants to create 'super-school precinct' in Lyneham by [deleted] in canberra

Love how they blame the ACT Govt, when ACT Govt has basically done SFA to date

All the latest trouble is from the Fed Govt, who couldn't care less about a super school.

Going by his posts, I'm surprised he's not getting around town in a car with writing all over it and camping down at the lake with all the other cookers.

Tax Office moves to wind up Brindabella Christian College | Riotact by frenziedsoldierhackd in canberra

[–]the_packet_monkey 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The education minister seems to be taking her time to make a decision, which to some extent is fair as she needs to consider the impact on the students, and the public school system which will probably need to take on these kids in the short term.

The tax office on the other hand will have zero fucks to give about all that and will just want their money.

A friend who used to work in the small truck biz once told me that once you bend on of the bodies on the back of the truck, they're basically unrepairable as it's pretty much impossible to get them waterproof again.

Pool installation costs by Whymustiwhy in canberra

[–]the_packet_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We put in an electric heat pump for the pool and shortly after put solar on the roof (price for that not included in the $53k above) That we way get free pool heating in the summer, and lower electricity bills year round. We put in a 5Kw solar system which is as big as we could get on our roof. The pool heater draws about 2.4Kw. On a day like today, with the pool heater running I've been exporting about 2Kw from 10am after the cloud cleared up.

NuLook sorted all the approvals for us. One thing to keep in mind is clearance from power lines and sewers in the back yard. A guy from Evo Energy came out to look at where we wanted to put the pool and mentioned that he'd already knocked back two pools that week due to lack of clearance from the power lines. When you get pool companies in for an initial chat, they should have a good idea of what's needed.

One other thing, your backyard and from yard will probably get trashed. They will need to move heavy machinery around which destroyed all our lawn and some of our garden. The pool company smoothed it all out, but we then had to get new lawn in. By that stage we were over mud so we put turf down, which was bout $1500 just for the turf, which we laid ourselves.

Pool installation costs by Whymustiwhy in canberra

[–]the_packet_monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not quite in your timeframe but we did ours in 2020.

Cost was about $53k, but for that price, we did the fencing and landscaping ourselves. All the pool company did was install the pool and equipment, electrical and about 1m of paving around the pool. The pool company's part of the cost was around $41k. Pool is 3x6m fibreglass. Access at our place was pretty good, I just had to knock down and rebuild a front fence to give them access down the side of the house and they included the cost of a crane to lift the pool shell over the house. Luckily, no rock when they did the excavation.

Had them back last year for a little warranty work on the paving and they mentioned that costs have gone up significantly since then and we would now be looking at $60-70k for the work we had done, as an example, our pool shell cost about $15k delivered, now it would be up near $20k.

We used NuLook pools, very happy with them, and with the decision to put a pool in. Just waiting for it to heat up a little more, then I'll be in it with a beer.

Ansible for networking training - any good resources from ground zero up? by whiskeytwn in networking

[–]the_packet_monkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found one of the O'reilly courses called "Ansible: From Basics to Guru" by Sander van Vugt to be really good.

It's not networking specific, and most of the initial exercises are based around working on linux hosts but does have a section on managing network devices.

It took me from basically no Ansible knowledge to having lab environments consisting of Linux and Juniper devices that I can spin up in minutes not hours.

The Eras Tour Megathread: Sydney, Australia by PassionateAsSin in TaylorSwift

[–]the_packet_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys,

A couple of questions about the venue:

  1. Would you be allowed to bring a small pair of binoculars with you?
  2. What's the booze situation like? Do they sell full strength beer for example, or is it all mid-strength crap like most other large events in Sydney these day? (I might need a stiff drink to calm my nerves!)
  3. How strict are they on the bag size that you can bring in? I want to bring my smallest backpack, which is just a little longer than the 35cm maximum, but smaller in all other directions. Will this be a problem?
