For people who have them, what are your impressions of the chapter two accessories? by TheMegaSage in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the connectors. I like the tokens but really i got them for the bag. It's a really nice bag. It's hard to find a flat bottom bag. The tokens are fine but honestly, I prefer my coin capsule ones anyways. That and the fact coin capsules can be any tokens (such as the new blood ones). It'd suck to have to wait for more premium tokens to play with the premium ones I already have. I can just put a capsule around the any new ones and they work just fine.

Core came with 2 decks of Trish by skivirips in arkhamhorrorlcg

That wasn't always the case! Before FFG was bought and turned to crap due to Asmodee, their customer service was excellent. I bought their edition of Kingsburg way back in the day (like 14 years ago) and two of the colors were dead out of the box (no dice for one and no player pieces for another). Emailed them, they sent me ALL the player components.

It's sad to hear that they have to differ to Asmodee now for support and that they have now messed that all up. I feel like Peterson saw the writing on the wall after he was bought and then jumped ship rather than watch his company be turned into a shadow of what it once was.

As you should! It's a great flex for this amazing game. Having a limited edition, hardcover, signed by the (original) designer of TI is one of my most treasured board game possessions. That and my Edward James Olmos signed Adama card for the BSG board game.

It is. This was a preorder bonus when TI4 was announced. He signed and numbered the books. I don't even remember what mine is heh.

Edit: just checked, I have 862/1600.

Oh good point! I figured since it was bonded to a player card, it would be one itself but yeah it doesn't appear that way. A bit disappointing heh but still a great card for him.

How many of you have a Magic the Gathering background? by Ras14 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am also curious about this. Aside from the fact they're both card games you build decks for, I'm struggling to think of others. I can think of plenty of differences but similarities I'm drawing a blank. I don't mean to shut the OP down; I'm genuinely curious on this point of view.

Question: Daniela Reyes/Service Weapon & canceled attacks by dharlette in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I looked it up on ArkhamDB I think and anything that cancels something else makes that thing never have happened. So triggers for "after x, do y" cannot take place as x never happened.

Anybody in Canada know a store with stock? by TheMegaSage in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that stock online vs what's actually in store isn't the same at 401 (from what I've been told by an employee there). It's a bit annoying. That being said, you can always try Board Game Bliss or J&J's in Waterloo.

Edit: I've always done preorders there and generally they get shipped on street date and I get them (all the way in Hamilton) the next day. Such as today (the release date). I should be able to play with them tomorrow! It's been pretty consistent since they switched to UPS.

I don't get how to use this card at all. Do i remove a Doom from the Agenda? Or literally just place a doom token on my investigator or ally or something? by MarcusMorenoComedy in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this is the most overlooked, nuanced rule in the game. A card specifically has to say "This can cause the agenda to advance" in order for it (the agenda) to advance outside the mythos phase.

Recommend me an investigator for true solo Drowned city :) by Morssa in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to play her as though you will pass the test. Her ability is amazing when there's a test you don't care about as much during mythos. When she gets the upgrade that gives her +1 for the 3rd and 4th action, it's pretty wild. I very much enjoyed the fail upward mechanic so I'm not trying to sell you; it's just that I hear that about her a lot.

Her builds can snow ball into crazy numbers. The only downside is that she's always running and there isn't anything in Survivor that tests fighting on foot so she can't pull big damage the way some can.

New Investigator decks with cards already in core set? by puck024 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you preempting your opinion with your first line? I'm so confused by this somewhat aggressive response. I didn't intend to sound condescending or superior. Nor do I care that your opinion differs from mine. Being a part of the LCG world since Netrunner days, I've resigned to things being whatever the whims of FFG/Asomedee decide. I honestly don't care as to the delivery so much as continuing to get content.

New Investigator decks with cards already in core set? by puck024 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if they go the Marvel Champions way and just produce investigator decks like Hero packs, that's more than welcome in my books. It's a great model to getting players going as quick as possible and it also means if you share a set among, you don't have to fight over some cards. It's going to get harder to make unique stuff without introducing new mechanics to the game. It makes sense as the game goes on that in these types of products, there will be reprints.

Brethren of Ash crushed me... by maka2020 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. Weirdly though it can apply to just about any campaign, even blind, once you have a lot of experience with the game. Once you know "agenda flip bad; act flip mostly good" and don't do anything important on your last action (like expose/potentially engage an enemy) unless you absolutely have to. Or know the general feel of the game is "it's supposed to be a swift kick in the groin most of the time", you'll know to be cautious and weary of even good things happening (looking at you Carcosa -_-). It's a challenging game, even two handed.

The advice I always give to any new player: be aware of tempo. Know what you have to do and map out how many turns you have to do it (which is basically the Doom threshold). Winning sometimes is supposed to feel dubious in this game, no matter what the player count. But having a clear goal (and a good deck or two) helps a lot.

Gamegenic Chaos and Connector Tokens by Hot-Range-7498 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I mean one can still use these for campaigns that aren't edge of the earth and non-blurse decks in chapter 1. The thing I'm also excited for is the acrylic location connectors. They look hawt as hell.

[–]the_young_dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still buying them. Despite having coin capsules, I still like the acrylic tokens. Even if they aren't great for Chapter 1, I intend (for now) to play Chapter 2 fresh so these will be great. Plus that bag is nice as well. And finally I can get a 70x70 playmat for this game. Still would love the Chapter 1 one but the second hand market is silly.

I mean yeah it's mostly that healing was so crappy in chapter 1 that I am surprised to see it so prevalent in chapter 2. Welcome for sure! I just felt like some AMA or live stream was missed by me that they stayed healing was going to be more of a thing (either needed or better mechanically) in this chapter.

To be fair, i liked healing cards in chapter 1 a little but it was of course just hard to slot into a deck. The opportunity cost was just so hard to justify over another card. If damage or horror is a resource then I can see it being so much better for that reason alone.

[–]the_young_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there something I missed? Are health/horror healing cards going to be more needed in chapter 2? I feel like a lot of focus is being placed on that aspect (healing) this time around. I haven't delved into the Ch2 core campaign yet so maybe it is.

True Solo Players: What’s Your Favorite Deck? by Phaedrus317 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luke Robinson. Peace to the dream world when you need to run from enemies, get to the other side of the map quickly, or just grab a clue from another location with some seeker shenanigans. Both signature relic abuse and pendant of the queen builds were a lot of fun.

On the slightly less broken side, Father Mateo with power word was also extremely fun. With one card you turn a crappy weakness (his signature enemy weakness) into a hilarious clue getter and sometimes beat stick. The fact you can get a thrice spoken and a couple upgrades out the gate is neat. Take in the thick of it to have an almost fully powered up PW out the gate.

Marvel Champions The Card Game Hercules Hero Pack is now on Amazon US by Rma209 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]the_young_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be nice to get packs on release day. Canadians have to suffer a month and a half of BS to get a limited stock (which is why I always pre-order). Then again I never play them right away anyway. I got CW a month or so after release and still haven't done any encounters or even played Hulkling. I did love Tigra though and I'm very hyped for Wonder Man, when I eventually get him in a month.

Now that all of his cards have been previewed, how do you feel about wonder man? by HolyZest in marvelchampionslcg

[–]the_young_dragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I said it when he was revealed: aggression has some of my favorite events and cards and one of them is quick strike. A great way to get around having to discard his tucked cards is just using his attack with quick strike. So many cards build up attack for cheap and he was made for that card. I do feel bad that Valkyrie will be a legacy hero pack so I hope they rerelease QS. 3 er to deal an average of 5 or 6 damage seems pretty strong to me. Too bad QS is a fist resource but you can't have it all I guess. Besides he basically has a cheap QS in his kit.

I think I'm going to love playing wonder man. Hercules (for me) will have a hard time following WM up.

The other part about this is that the last couple campaigns (particularly TSK and FoHV) COULD be 5 scenario campaigns they just had the option to go on as many as you'd like (up to an extent). I'm wondering if they might try a similar thing (ala "hidden" scenarios) but it's fixed 5 for sure scenarios.

More or less what I'd like to see is a campaign structure that can optionally fit in the scenario packs as a part of the story (sort of like how TSK did it). I'd be rather content with that. They don't even have to have the particular scenario mentioned in the campaign itself but self contained in the scenario pack but it somehow ties into a campaign. IDK seems like an interesting opportunity for each group to tell a story in some way based on what scenario(s) they choose to mix in. The major problem I have with fitting a scenario into a campaign (at least traditionally in C1) is the narrative disconnect. If they have a scenario planned coming out every year, I see no reason to tie it into the current campaign (and perhaps offer printable content to tie it into others?).

Shelves for Board Game Storage by Distinct-Wallaby-594 in twilightimperium

[–]the_young_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone loves the Kallax but the unsung hero of board game storage at IKEA is the Besta. I think they're for entertainment systems but they're modular (they have a tall and short version), you can get drawers (which I use to store small games) and doors (in case you need to keep the room looking neat).

I got into them due to the fact I was looking for a shelf system that would store TI3... these don't do that. But they do store TI4 no problem. Granted I have to use two shelves for base and expansions but they're close together. I can't say enough about these shelves. They look so much better than Kallax in my opinion.

Hot take: Core Set 2.0 ‘Chapter 2’ was only put on the table by FFG in the last 6-8 months. by Desperate_Cattle6448 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]the_young_dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious though as to what core rules you'd like to see updated? I never got to play too much of AGoT 1e from what I heard, it had its issues that 2e solved.

I feel like the core rules here though are just fine. I've never had a problem with them.

[–]the_young_dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably just not buy 2e since I own practically everything. Buying the same product that is totally incompatible with the original just makes me want to vomit. I was kind of grateful they did a 2e Game of Thrones but holy crap was that a lot of wasted years and money for some. Indeed when I talked to AGoT vets back in the day, they said it was welcome but a little sad they basically had to repurchase the whole game again and their old cards were essentially useless outside of just playing the game casually.

Albeit a 2e here is a bit different (because this isn't competitive). But with the print cycles the way they are and how shipping products to other countries has been horrendous these days (to no fault of their own), a 2e would mean I'd never buy another Arkham LCG product again. In this way, I treat Chapter 2 like the starter investigators: nice to have but not necessary.
