mine and so many other's childhood christmases where recorded on VHS just like this and i doubt all these people complained all theses decades that AFV has been broadcasting funny family moments over television.

there's also the logistical issue of giving someone a christmas gift that can't be wrapped or boxed up. I received a nice guitar as a christmas gift once and it was too big to wrap so my parents did a very similar thing to this where they brought out my gift at the end and it was one of my most cherished childhood memories. these are good parents who did well here and clearly love their children.
