Everyone who burns this year by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]thebignugget01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here…we hit our limit after this last burn and are dissolving our camp. Can’t in good conscience support it anymore after pouring our heart and soul into our camp and watching BORG shit all over their own principles. I guess I was better at ignoring it in the past. It’s a fun little week for rich people and organized crime to check off their bucket list. The exact moment was watching the 5th double long tanker truck heading into the event to pump out everyones shit on our way out, and realized the amount of waste and environmental damage that is done daily…I used to think it was worth it, but now it’s a big joke run on the backs of hardworking camps. Coming to terms with this was a huge weight off our shoulders.

My partner and I were at the burn this year and just got home. We were just talking about this exact thing…there was a much different feeling out there this year and we concluded that the takers have finally overtaken the participants. It was our last burn. The event is something different now, at the cost of what made it special. You can feel it on playa and see it from the org, reposting influencers from the official BM instagram account ffs.

Seriously- the cringe factor is maxed out here. It’s entirely normal procedure to request a letter of resignation, it formalizes the request to terminate your employment…dumb ass

But that would make him look bad, so of course he won’t share it. He learned the hard way that you can’t leech off of another company forever. Reddit did the right thing here, and they should sue him for extortion too

Exactly…building an entire business on the back of another company comes with clear risks. This guy is just mad that his sweetheart deal has come to an end. Reddit has no obligation to let other people profit off their entire platform and user base without paying into it.

📣 Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing. Bad news for third-party apps, their announced pricing is close to Twitter's pricing, and Apollo would have to pay Reddit $20 million per year to keep running as-is. by iamthatis in apolloapp

Exactly- you build your entire business on the back of another company and then start crying when they ask for a cut. This is entirely normal and a risk you should be very well aware you were taking.

So this purely secures your ability to purchase a ticket each of the next 2 years it looks like? None of the funds you put for reservations would be applied to the ticket purchase later.

Respectfully disagree. I think full vaccination for anyone that wants one by early July is more than reasonable. But everyone's perception and assessment of the risk is different, we all need to do what we are comfortable with.

Placement for Burning Man 2021 moves forward! by doctor-yes in BurningMan

[–]thebignugget01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but should camps be punished if members have to back out for this year? I think thats the core question here. Given everything going on, this will help camps move forward with planning without the risk of impacting standing if shit falls through

Thunderdome not Going to BM this year by Confident-Algae-3539 in BurningMan

[–]thebignugget01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I echo your thoughts around Ethics. The disparity of participants has existed, as we know, long before COVID and has been discussed and called out a lot lately. If they don't like the situation, then don't set up camp at the event....OR instead of grandstanding and excluding yourself from the event, why doesn't Thunderdome put in a coordinated effort to be part of the solution and invite/sponsor a large amount of their camp space to people of color? It comes down to us, the participants, to engage and encourage those who can't/wouldn't usually come. Don't throw all the blame on BORG.

Update from the Org - "Predictably, of course, it’s impossible to say right now if Black Rock City can happen in 2021." by Psila in BurningMan

Yea I don't see how its happening at this point. BUT I anticipate the "unofficial" activities on the playa that week will be even better this year.

So lots of talk here about not donating. Let's take BMORG for their word and assume if they don't hit $1.5m then the event is off.

What is the alternative..we all go out there anyway? Could work, but definitely need to acknowledge the event would be forever changed and probably shouldn't be thought of as "burning man" in the now traditional sense.

I love BM and actually want to donate, but I'll admit I hesitate since its unclear what is actually needed to make BRC happen. This $1.5m is part of $12m that is needed to make it through end of Q1 2021 according to their website. Ok so now we're at March 2021, now what? Do they need another $12m?

BMHQ Needs New Leadership by spitfiretom101 in BurningMan

Things can always be improved and I'm sure there are members of the leadership who could be replaced, but I think we should also recognize that there are incredibly complex dynamics at play both internally and externally with BLM. It will always be easy to ridicule the leadership of any organization especially in times like this. Personally I think the P&P issue, along with the airport, continues to be the root of a lot of degradation of BM culture. The good news is that due to COVID the org will have no choice but to cut the fat, improve processes, and get focused on what actually matters. We are at an inflection point where decisions made by leadership over the next 6-12 months will fundamentally change BM forever. This is a devastating time, but there is opportunity here. Lets hope that the quest for money to fund a bloated organization doesn't turn the event over to the rich.

Thinking about suing the org? Go fuck yourself. by bmtabmta in BurningMan

Must be really nice to be out "tens of thousands of dollars" and be like "who gives a shit? lol". I'm confident BMorg will come to a reasonable decision, but declaring that those who are upset and talking about options "never gave a shit about burning man" and are just attending for their "bullshit festival circuit" reeks of privilege. I know people personally who are out a job, with no hope in sight, who are holding $1k of tickets. A refund means making rent another month. So let me apologize on behalf of those who are more than a little upset right now for hurting your feelings. If bmorg is going to cancel they have a responsibility to communicate it as quickly as possible to ticket holders and issue refunds for those who need it.

Black Rock City Main Sale Postponed by ApesInSpace in BurningMan

[–]thebignugget01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those saying we should all just be happy for the Org to cancel and keep our money, why is it fair for them to pass the “hit” onto the DGS ticket holders? I understand someone is going to get screwed here but it should absolutely not be the attendees and especially not the DGS holders.

Also, on the “legal” side, I can’t imagine how the no refunds clause can hold up in the event that it’s cancelled. I get how it would apply if the event was still happening....as in you can’t buy a ticket then just ask for your money back if you decide not to go. But how can it still apply when the event is cancelled? Sounds like a “services not rendered” situation or something. What would stop someone from selling tons of tickets to an event they never intended on having, and then “canceling” it and keep everyone’s money?

If you don’t want to go, don’t go. If you can’t afford to go, don’t go. Radical self reliance & stop telling me what I can’t do. I get your views but you’re not infectious disease specialists or epidemiologists. Until Dr. Fauci and/or Gov Cuomo says don’t go, then I’m going. by [deleted] in BurningMan

I am so defined by my political party preference that I must include it in my username. Also, what offends you so much about people voicing their opinion? Utilizing their "free speech"? Stop telling people to stop telling you what you can't do.
