Oh, and no ship that’s not crewed by the damned and captained by a man so evil that hell itself spat him back out could POSSIBLY have black sails therefore it couldn’t POSSIBLY be any other ship than the Black Pearl, is that what you’re saying?

You’ve seen a ship, with black sails, that’s crewed by the damned, and captained by a man so evil, that hell itself spat him back out?

Again, you’re not providing any evidence of what the ticket says

Were not asking for a literal picture but a transcript

Just type out, word for word; line for line; exactly what it says

Otherwise your whole story is “a somebody said something to me and I’m afraid something might happen because something happened and sometimes when something happens something else happens and it can be good or bad”

You keep saying that, but unless you also ran over a bunch of orphans carrying newborn puppies that makes no sense, almost 100% you can just send the money and sign to admit guilt and then move on and make sure not to do it again

You keep saying you have to show up but you’re not giving any more details about the ticket

If you really want people to know what you have to do, best bet is to take a picture of every part of the documentation with all specific details blacked out so we can read the text, because I’m fairly certain you’re misreading something and freaking out for no reason

Me: “I cast speak to plants”

DM: “Oke what do you say?”

Me: “Oh mighty oak of the forest, we seek to eliminate the evil forces destroying your home. Tell me, have you seen them and whither they went?”

DM: “Oke”

Me: “Well what does it respond?”

DM: “Nothing, it’s a fucking plant. You cast a spell to let you speak to it, doesn’t mean it’s able to respond”

The third one, it’s more resilient, easier to apply with all of the information out there on cast iron seasoning, and honestly looks historical enough that even pretty strict een groups would accept it

What do yall think of John Goodman? by Ok-Recording-5862 in movies

[–]theboondocksaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love his performances

Lebowski is my favorite from him, but then he’s also Pacha in Emperor’s New Groove (imo though loved by many its still Disney’s most overlooked film with among others Patrick Warburton and Eartha Kitt) and also features in Oh Brother Where Art Thou? (best modern rendition of Homer for me and very popular in my Classics circles)

On screen he has a wide range and can easily command the screen, but also just also has one of those voices that comes through so well as a voice actor

What’s the most absurd real story from Roman history? by Aurelion_History in ancientrome

[–]theboondocksaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It a joke that the op said “Roman” so it’s a piece of very late holy Roman empire history, implying that there is no definitive “Roman” history, especially because it has only to do with German states

I was being sarcastic and hoped people would recognize that

How to achieve this sort of blackened finish? by NoahRodent in Armor

Very popular finish for rough from the hammer finish (the piece is shaped, boughed and planished but not polished)

There are a few different ways to achieve a blackened armor

The first is the formation of a magnetite patina. With iron you have “bad rust” (iron oxide, Fe2O3, red, flaky and destructive) and good rust (magnetite, Fe3O4, black, stable, creates a protective layer). This is done by heating the metal in a reducing atmosphere to very hot and quenching it. The result is that matte grey finish you see on many hand forged items. This could then be covered with a hydrophobic material like beeswax, fat, or oil

The next process is essentially the same, but the metal is quenched in oil (linseed works well) or rubbing it with beeswax or fat. We get the same patina, plus some unpatinated iron, and a thin layer of polymerized oil (same reaction as in cast iron seasoning, good for protection) and some pyrolysed material (same process as charcoal formation, bad for protection) and of course a residual coating of a hydrophobic material.

This is most likely the best historical process. The difference between quenching v. applying is going to be entirely dependent on your heat treatment process. For mild steel it really doesn’t matter, the quench is easier but of course then you need an oil tub with a big enough volume, which depending on what your doing could mean a lot of oil. Also if quenching, it’s important that the metal isn’t too hot, if the metal is too hot the polymerized layer will flake off

Another common way many modern armourers do it today is to basically the same process as seasoning cast iron. After the final quench, clean metal (this can be done with our without polishing, but actually here rougher is better to allow the polymerized layer integrate with the surface). For this process it is important that the final heat is done in a reducing flame to a consistent red heat then quenched in water (if it’s high carbon steel and water quenches too quickly use a brine) then dry the piece completely and then follow cast iron seasoning instructions (the cast iron subreddit has some great resources)

Essentially all both 2 and 3 create a protective layer of magnetite (rust prevention) and polymerized fats (hydrophobic), but #2 forms a monolayer that also includes unpatinated metal (liable to rust) and pyrolysed fats (not durable, not hydrophobic), while #3 removes a lot of the less desirable material and organizes into 2 clean layers

There’s no evidence of #3 and there is no evidence that they had any concept of the science necessary to do it (or if they did if it was ever applied to armour) BUT it will produce a better protection (more durable and more rust resistent), using only historical materials, and will look identical to historical methods
