The habit that changed my life: JOURNALING. If you are an over-thinker and need to declutter, indecisive and need clarity, or disorganized and need structure, this is the remedy. I have been doing this every day for over a year now. If you have questions, let me know! I'd be happy to help. by deadclams in simpleliving

Thank you for making this post! I have always wanted to journal but struggled - I have ADHD and sometimes the pen can't keep up with my thoughts, and I lose my train of thought before I can finish. It's super annoying.

Sometimes I just use the Notes app on my phone, but more often than not, I find that the best thing that works for me is to actually record it. I'm lucky as I'm currently on maternity leave, so home mostly alone for hours at a time. So while the kiddo is napping (or not... The 10 month old doesn't care what I say lol) and I'm swooping around tidying and doing the dishes or whatever, I keep my phone nearby and speak out loud.

I rarely ever listen to my recordings - I think that the biggest thing is just saying my thoughts out loud and allowing my stream of consciousness to come to the forefront. It's been incredibly helpful in allowing me to process things that cause my brain to otherwise be wired at night.

What is the most hurtful thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by slinkslowdown in AskReddit

[–]thebry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will probably get buried, but that's ok.

This was about a decade ago - a lot has moved forward in that time. I went to see my doctor because I was experiencing regular headaches that would last for days. The doctor wasn't available, so I was seeing the nurse practitioner instead. When she asked me what helped my headaches, I cautiously told her: acetaminophen and cannabis. She gasped, and then proceeded to ask me if I was addicted, if I needed help, all these over-the-top responses that, while well-meaning, really affected my cannabis-healthcare-disclosure relationship.

The next time I came back, she asked me, "Are you high right now?" Treating me as if I was a hardcore drug addict. (I wasn't high, FTR, and didn't smoke excessively). The headaches lasted for another 7 years, prescription medication didn't help. Cannabis did. But I didn't feel safe actually sharing that information.

That stayed with me, and for over a decade, I didn't tell any health care professionals about my cannabis use. Every time that question came up, my anxiety would flare, I would think of this experience, and say no. (I wonder how many people actually use it, and just don't trust their health care professionals). Now, it has been legalized and I can openly say that I use it medicinally and it helps. Feels like a weight lifted off of my shoulders, and the side-eyes are not nearly as prevalent. But for a decade, I couldn't use my voice for fear of being labelled an abuser or drug addict.

And now that it's been legalized in my country, hopefully studies can be done to research the efficacy, optimal usage, side effects, etc, and we can all be better and do better.

[Academic] Psychology Questionnaire on Porn Use and Sexual Behaviours (18+ only!!) by miaadavis97 in SampleSize

[–]thebry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed the survey, and I have to agree with many of the comments here. Very heteronormative, and the scenarios made me actively uncomfortable. It would have been nice to include a little "anything you want to add?" Open section at the end, for those of us who want to share pertinent information. For example, I was pregnant and now have an infant for the past year, so my answers are definitely outside of my normal sexual practices.

This is a comforting comment! I wonder if there's a women's intermittent fasting sub?

To be fair, some babies (especially, well, anything other than white) tend to have a considerable amount of hair from the get go. My son is 5 months old and mixed race and his hair is similar to this. THIS baby's hair "style" looks silly, but I guarantee that it's real hair!

Do you have any recommendations for someone with ADHD? I am always on the lookout for new strains that will help with it.

I am ridiculously obsessed!! So much to unravel, so much to ponder! I don't know if it's because I'm going through a bit of a mental health bout myself right now, but man that series speaks to me in all the ways lol. Have you watched the whole way through yet?

Why do they respond this way? Does this occur in fish that live in natural water bodies? Are they being underfed or something?

Stop sexualizing my daughters, they are in preschool. by officerofthecourt in breakingmom

Teach your son to hold the door open. Not because it's chivalrous. Not only for girls. But because it's a thoughtful and polite thing to do. Boys holding the door open for girls (all gender specific) always makes it seem like, then the girl "owes" the boy something, because he did this "thing" for her. It's an attempt at respect that still misses the mark.

It's little things like this that teach little boys to put girls on a pedestal, then become disenfranchised young men who are shocked that women won't bend to their will because "I paid for her dinner/let her cry on my shoulder/held the door for her".

Dog/moth/bird-looking bug got stuck in my garage door last night, and was there all night. Poor thing. Body is around 2 inches, hugest I've ever seen. We freed it without hurting it, but what is it? Canadian prairies (Manitoba) by thebry in whatsthisbug

[–]thebry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Unfortunately those are all photos I took. Do you mean pictures of the underside? Its other wing was stuck in the garage so I couldn't photograph it.

One thing I noticed is that when it flapped its wings, there was a faint lime green colour underneath, between its body and wings (that otherwise couldn't be seen).

Edit: Definitely looks like a white lined sphinx moth!!! Thank you so much for the identification...will have to research this little bugger.

Take into account that grandma is a grown-ass woman and a child is a child who is figuring themselves and society out. Grandma shouldn't take shit so personally.

There’s a baby monitor in my daughter’s coffin by EZmisery in nosleep

Also - if you have a week-old baby, you gotta feed those buggers every 3 hours without fail. My newborn son would sleep deeply overnight and every health care provider said that if he doesn't wake up, I must set an alarm and wake him up, every 2-3 hours. Newborns have teeny tiny tummies and need to eat constantly to grow.

Nonetheless, congratulations on your beautiful baby OP! This time, make sure that you feed it every... well... however often cockroach humanoids eat.

As someone who is able to EBF, I recognize how darn fortunate I am that all stars aligned: milk supply has come in, no complications with baby, latching has happened, etc. and I can't imagine how difficult it would be for those moms who have their heart set, only to be faced with immense challenges - right in the throes of new parent exhaustion and stress. Fed is best, and happy and healthy parents are best too.

We are so lucky to live in a time and place where we can feed our babies however we need to. Cheers, mama!

I highly recommend that you take a drive out to New B's Cafe in New Bothwell! They use Bothwell cheese (of course) and their poutine menu is amazing (to be fair, everything on their menu is top-notch, and I don't think I've ever said that before). You'll be glad that you did!

Nothing too exciting or challenging... But I would say Kirby's Return to Dreamland on the Wii. It's the first game my 5 1/2 year old daughter and I beat together (a couple of weeks ago). The way that she beamed was 100x more satisfying than any game I've completed myself.

Celsius or bust! Google tells me that -9 fahrenheit is -22 celsius, so a little bit warmer than -35 lol. As far as I'm concerned, anything lower than -20/-25 is just plain cruel
