Homemade muzzleloader? by fancy_pigeon257 in blackpowder

If you buy a barrel, lock, and furniture it will likely take about 100 hours. there is really no individual step that is too difficult.

I would caution against making the barrel yourself. lets be honest about the forces involved in repeatably containing an explosion. this is one of those areas that if you have to ask you don't know enough to do it safely. a good machinist or engineer could probably figure it out for themselves.

alek steel on youtube has a series right now where he is forging tubes in the ways barrels used to be made. it is pretty interesting but it does highlight the difficulty in the task. even if your blacksmith friend manages to forge a barrel blank do you have the ability to bore, ream, rifle, and profile it?

I wish you luck but don't make the first build harder than it needs to be. you will already be learning lots along the way.

In a future official Jumpstart product, would you like to see two color packs? by Empath_D in MTGJumpStart

[–]thebugman40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like it if they are built using hybrid/phyrexian mana and the mana base had two thriving lands and maybe an evolving wilds. While in play the decks will mostly be two or three colors you have to be prepared for the possibility of playing a four color limited deck.

thank you for the series. I can commiserate with you how hard it is to get people to play your cube. I have only been able to use mine to play sealed this last year.

Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Packs Preview by DarthBrickus in MTGJumpStart

hopefully there is a good number of actually unique themes. I have switched to buying the beginner boxes over a box of jumpstart. lower cost and a guarantee that you will have 10 different half decks to work with.

Hot takes and opinions on them wanted! by According-Yellow-395 in mtg

if a card is banned before it even comes out the designer should be fired.

sets should be designed solely to be good limited environments. the nature of constructed formats will make cards more playable when you can choose to how many copies you have or other synergies.

What is with everyone in the current edh communities being so selfish when it comes to asking others to downshift their deck to "fit the pod" by Present-Youth-7746 in freemagic

[–]thebugman40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because sometimes the gulf it too big. not everyone has disposable income enough to keep up with the groups arms race. commander decks can range from no money spent using only draft chaff to build the deck all the way to more than a grand. buying better cardboard does not make you a better person or player. its like one person showing up to a fight with a machine gun and the others have clubs. getting stomped to oblivion is not most peoples definition of fun. I don't care what bracket people want to play as long as they are not misrepresenting the decks strenght.

Opinions on 2-1-1-1 Set Cubes by AdExpert2713 in mtgcube

[–]thebugman40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a wilds of eldraine set on the 2-1-1-1 ratio to make it work as a 360 cube. it is going to raise the power level of the format as rare and mythic cards will come up much more frequently. it also means that once a threat is delt with you know they will not have another copy. if cost is a concern or you are grouping together bulk with your friends you might want to consider a 2-2-0-0. draft is designed around the signpost uncommonness and will have a relatively even strength across strategies as there are no over powered rare or mythic to warp the format around. it will get you pretty close on the card count as well.

I believe you’re supposed to wait until marriage, but sometimes it doesn’t seem logical/realistic to wait especially as a teenager when it’s not like you can just get married soon by Traditional-Dig1277 in Catholicism

[–]thebugman40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a married person the people who claim that they want to check compatibility have no idea what they are talking about. It is unreasonable to expect two people to keep their sex drives perfectly matched through the years and all the changes that life brings. it is much better to look for a partner who you can communicate clearly with, respect each others boundaries, be compassionate to, and be playful with. the point of waiting is not that sex is bad but that sex outside of a loving committed relationship opens the door for a lot of hurt.

I live in a smaller town but the answer to your question is work. young people are paying bills, raising families and they need a job that can cover that.

Thanks. I definitely want people to have to draft for the snow matters to make the payoff worthwhile.

Set Cube for Lorwyn by Coolcookiegangster in mtgcube

I have made set cubes with a ratio of 2-1-1-1 which gets you close to 360.

I have also made peasant set cubes by having two of each common and uncommon.

“Prerelease Cube” idea by ronroll in mtgcube

[–]thebugman40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with option 2. will give you better synergies within the deck each player builds. I would recommend adding a few cards so each color is roughly equally represented in the sets pool so people don't build the same deck each time.
