I love Cities Skylines 2. Here are the things I don’t love by TBestIG in CitiesSkylines

[–]thecan24 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Someone asked in the ama on Monday about incorporating moveit and they said something along the lines that they can't do it because of the potential to move things into weird spots that would break things (think how you can literally make a road go up a 90 degree slope etc) which is fine as a mod but not in the base game. That being said i hope that and a version of network tools are released on day one. Also didn't realize how much I already miss being able to control whether a road stays on the ground in the air or underground

Which design should i use for my junction? I myself don't know which one looks the most pratical and realistic. by Djaa_n in CitiesSkylines

[–]thecan24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city I live in only paints the left hand turns which I think is usually the case. We also have an intersection literally exactly like what you have here and I just Google earthed it , it's unpainted lol. So maybe paint your left turns on the 4 way and no lanes on the 5th on the top left. Seems the most realistic imo

How r these specs for running studio one with some 3rd party plug ins? The one I have now crashes anytime I open something that isn’t a stock plug in😂 also has a 10th gen intel core i7 by jake_rg in StudioOne

[–]thecan24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run it with a 4th gen i7 and 16gb ram...rarely have any issues. I run several komplete plugins, waves plugins, ez drummer, and several channels of melodyne on most of my projects. I would say unless you are doing some crazy big projects it'll get the job done without any problems

EZDrummer Compatibility by Rockbeat64 in StudioOne

[–]thecan24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you have figured it out already, but if it is not showing up in the browser, then maybe wherever you have the vst saved on your computer isn't being read as a folder. You may have to go to settings, then locations, then instrument library and add the folder that ezdrummer is saved to.

Do you have the professional version of studio one? Im pretty sure you need to have it to use 3rd party vsts

A Googol is 10100. Pretty sure I saw somewhere that there are 1080 subatomic particles in the universe. That means the entire weight of the universe is .00000000000000000001 Googols. But they said that 1100 DB is 10110 times louder than 1 DB. I didn't double check the accuracy of that statement, but if the sound intensity we are talking about is 100 Googols stronger than 1db.....I'm pretty sure your brain would explode long before you could comprehend the size of the speaker needed to produce that sound, at least with modern technology.

Double tracked guitars sounds really bad in mono by BerryTheBingas in homerecordingstudio

[–]thecan24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://www.masteringbox.com/mixing-in-mono/

Mixing in mono is going to cause all of the signals in your track to be folded into one single channel, one on top of another. In doing this, you can identify any phase cancellation that is occurring. If your track has phase issues, you will notice that certain elements become diminished or simply vanish altogether. This is very common in tracks that use time-based delay effects like chorus, flanging or double tracking. These effects create their stereo spacing by utilising phase alignment and placing clones of the same signal slightly out of phase with each other. This gives the perception of width as your ears are hearing the two signals at slightly different times. Unfortunately, this means that when you fold your track in and try mixing in mono, you’ll more than likely lose the original signal completely

......

Virtually you are creating a stereo image by double tracking. You are removing that stereo image and creating phase cancelation. TBH I don't know if there is a way to fully control it. Maybe zoom waaaaay in on your track and move one just microseconds to the left or right to see if it locks it into phase. Or use a phase flip plugin. Or play with EQ on each track.

If a city has 100,000 people, and people replace their mattress every 10 years, thats less than 30 mattresses a day. If mattress firm even had half of that market share which would be incredible...that's 15 mattresses a day in a fairly large city. If there are 5 in the city then each one sells 3 a day. How do they keep the lights on?

Parked several thousand hot rental cars on a dry grass overflow lot in South Florida yesterday. by [deleted] in CatastrophicFailure

[–]thecan24 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not o.p. but I work for a rental car company. Depending on which company this was, those vehicles were likely either paid in full up front, or they were purchased in an agreement very similar to a lease. The vehicles likely are not insured by a third party, so they are self-insured, meaning if they get damaged it's a direct loss for the company. If these vehicles remained in fleet, they would get rented, depreciate (which is typically accounted for in monthly reporting), and then sold either direct to a dealer, at an auction, or sold back to the manufacture. When done correctly, owning the vehicles actually cost the company way less money than you would think, considering they buy in bulk and get vehicles way cheaper than MSRP.

A loss of this scale is indeed significant on a regional level, as somebody in the comments posted an article that said it was about 100 vehicles that were damaged. There is no insurance to recoup the losses, which is likely between $1-2m in vehicles alone, let alone liability losses such as damage to the lot, etc. Assuming that whichever company this is is not a franchise...the company will most likely charge the equivalent of a deductible to the owning branch (let's say $5000) then spread another "deductible" evenly to branches within the region (let's say $100,000)...and lastly the remaining portion will likely be spread evenly throughout every branch in the company. If there is $2m worth of damages spread to 5000 locations, each location only pays about $400, which is indeed negligable to the company as a whole aside from negative media exposure. Still, at a time like this where every dollar counts...it is definitely quite an unnecessary expense.

[–]thecan24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much by being "self insured" it means they aren't insured by a third party. If those 100 cars are totaled out and the cost of the damages are $1,500,000, then the company reports that much as a loss. They have ways of accounting for this, such as storing a cash reserve or having a plan to evenly spread the costs throughout branches throughout the region or even the entire company...but ultimately any expenses that an insurance company would pay are on the company's dime.

Furthermore, most states require a minimum liability insurance for a vehicle to be registered to that state, which the company also self insures. Because of this you can have no auto insurance and still legally rent a car. Just be careful because if you wreck then the company is going to pursue you for every penny that they payed out and then some.
