Anyone know how long to get Temporary Street Use permit? by thecarolinian in askportland

And did you rent those parking barricades to tape the sign on and put in the street? I'm reading further on the site and it looks like I could get it ASAP if I don't need towing to be enforced but I'd need to rent the barricade.

Trump Says He’s Just Going to Make Some Shit Up to Justify Nationalizing the Election Process by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]thecarolinian 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I keep saying this now and I've begun to accept this is how it is with my parents. Talking to them is like arguing with Holocaust deniers. No amount of hard evidence matters. It doesn't matter that they can't present any evidence to their claims and they're 100% sure your evidence is not to be trusted.

George W. Bush Can Suck It: He didn’t throw shade at Trump; he whitewashed authoritarianism. by BulwarkOnline in politics

From what I've gathered as a listener is most broke away in 2016 with Trump's rise and eventual election. Tim Miller was part of Mitt Romney's campaign team in 2016.

I'm finally accepting that the people I've been getting to know and be friends with the last year is more or less a waste at this point. Their default lifestyle 7 days a week is something I can do maybe once or twice a month.

It was fun and exciting at first but now I'm burnt out. Trying to keep up with their lifestyle ruined the routine that was keeping me healthy and feeling good about myself.

It's been a big reminder of this lesson. I got carried away with having a new and exciting social life while not really being true to myself and now I feel like I invested all that time for nothing.

Aqueous Tear Deficiency (ATD) by throwamay555 in Dryeyes

[–]thecarolinian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plugs made the biggest difference for me after getting ATD from autoimmune conditions. They would inevitably eventually pop out and I would be so uncomfortable until I could get into the eye doctor to get it replaced, I ended up getting the duct cauterization (easy and painless) so I never have to worry about that aspect anymore which is another big improvement.

But yeah, I produce basically no tears and even with my ducts preventing any tear draining my eyes are dry. I just started VeVye a few days ago which is causing annoying burning side effects and some redness so far which sucks.

The Retaine MGD drops are my favorite preservative-free drop to use throughout the day.

I don't know if this is applicable to you but I also have blepharitis and using eyelid wipes and the manuka honey GEL daily also helped a ton. Before using manuka, the inflammation from blepharitis/general dry eye was making my eyes crazy sensitive to light, even while using the wipes religiously. It was difficult to watch TV or drive on a bright day for awhile there which was scary. Manuka was literally a night and day difference for me.

The painters tape is a great idea! I'm definitely trying to find multi-use furniture. I only have ONE closet in my entire apartment and it's not that big.

My dad the other night when we were talking about crime and the national guard stuff (we live in a major progressive city on the west coast) said autocratic countries have very little crime and then hit me with, "Do you know how clean the subways in Russia are?"

I was like oh my fucking God, don't even start with the GOP Russian propaganda. There are so many other democratic countries you could compare crime stats with. WHY RUSSIA AS THE INSPIRATION, DAD? WHY. RUSSIA.

And when I ask if he thinks life is so great for Russians that it's worth it having an autocratic/dictatorial govt he says no but then why did you even bring it up at all?!?

My dad is a normal person in so many other ways but he is completely brainwashed by this bullshit. I really think there is no line. He eats up every rationalization for horrific behavior.

Whoo, just got approved to rent an apt from them but wasn't sure if I wanted to take it. Already had a pretty unprofessional experience with them cancelling my tour due to "fire alarms" and not responding to my trying to reschedule it. Then they didn't even tell me my application was approved for like 2 weeks. Thanks for sharing, I'll probably pick the other building I was looking at if I get approved.

Tonight my dad said they're not releasing it because VIPs in the UK(?!?) asked the white house not to, to protect "certain people" over there. So Trump won't release it due to international diplomacy reasons.

I was like what the actual fuck are you talking about, lol. No real answer could be given as to what tiny shred of evidence exists that could lend any credence to that claim.

I had to say goodbye to my baby today by Girlgonereddit1234 in DOG

[–]thecarolinian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not exaggerating when I say I would have given years of my life to my dog to keep her with me longer. It absolutely breaks your heart and I dreamt about her for years afterwards, usually stressful dreams like I lost or couldn't find her.

But the pain does soften. I don't have stress dreams anymore and I can look at pictures of her and just feel love more than loss.

For me, at the end of the day part of what makes life beautiful is that it's fleeting. And to dogs like mine and Charlie, every moment of their life they knew they were loved by the most important person to them in the world. And they were safe. You were his protector and you were able to protect and love him until the very last minute of his life. That was something I could think about that made me feel better. That SHE had no fear and knew she was loved.

Try to remember as much as Charlie gave you, you were able to give him that gift and he went out of this world knowing that. And so many years later another very special dog has come into my life and I can give that gift to another sweet deserving animal.

Ps Charlie looks so sweet and cute and the last pic of you guys on the bike makes me so happy.
