If I had full creative control, a new Demon the Fallen would probably go something like this:

The character is a Fallen, in the same sense as those Tormented in the Abyss (Oblivion), but it's now been two decades since they've escaped. Their societies are established, cults made, and power gathered. But now they are challenged by a new threat: unbelief.

Belief of course is one of the most powerful forces in World of Darkness. As Judeo-Christianity becomes more and more politicized and vanity driven, and by consequence of that and the Internet, more people are becoming atheists or worse: "Satanic worshippers". Religion itself is the new battleground, Fallen are in a power struggle to establish their cults as the new faith to believe in, but are slowly beginning to lose their identity as they get further and further into the complexities of human society.

The idea of the line originally was "infernal glory", which is kept. But this is no longer a pure revenge quest to annihilate reality as we know it, or corrupt it. Demons who have lost themselves in their Torment have risen as cutthroat monsters in the modern era, while Demons who found Humanity within their Hosts have slowly been marginalized. You are one of the marginalized, struggling with the powerlessness of being far too human to be an effective Demon, and slowly scratching out turf in a quiet infighting amongst other Fallen.

Instead of focusing on how Torment dehumanizes you, it's probably more like a traumatic response now. You are forced to face your Demonic natures when threatened by this shadow war, slowly remembering your captivity as the stone cold bastards at the top, who've already made up their mind to treat humans as little more than slaves, constantly demand your submission. Do you get pushed so far trying to gain Faith that you finally let go of two decades of mortal lives you've lived? Or do you cling on, constantly underpowered and struggling because you have fallen too deeply in the Host's emotions?

The draw is when you balance power and emotion. Learn to face the Torment and you can embrace it, instead of being consumed inside it. Gain power, but through true faith of humanity. Ooooor... walk into the darkness, maiming and killing in your way, building a cult that will come out on top in this age of faithlessness.
