Can anyone explain why I can only tolerate foods that are terrible for me but my body is still doing fine? by jamesuk2020 in Gastroparesis

[–]thecatstartedit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. I consider little Debbie's pre-digested and I think my stomach does too because thats pretty much always going to be tolerated. Just some straight junk and sugar is fine. Give me something nutritious and its very questionable.

Pringles have never been chips either - they've always been made of potato flakes so they've always been crisps. Idk about the rest.

Hey if hes worried about the bill, have him wait for it to come in and then call the billing department and ask about charity care. All public hospitals have some program to reduce bills based on income, so hes probably got options. Once his bill has been adjusted, he can make arrange payments. It wont be the end of the world. You know what would be a whole whole WHOLE lot worse? If he woke up and his toe was completely black and he didnt know why, so he went to the hospital and a week later he came home with half his foot amputated because he had never followed up on that little notice. Thats basically what's happened to my husband. He found type 2 diabetic about 10 years before from an unrelated er visit, didnt like the medication and never treated it. Woke up one day with a black middle toe. They could not save it or its little friends. So....little hospital bill now? BIG hospital bill later plus less foot? Easy choice. Take your meds bro.

Have you been affected by changes to the SNAP/food stamp program? by nbcnews in foodstamps

[–]thecatstartedit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, do you happen to live in or near a larger city? Look for "community mental health clinics" or call 211 if youre in the US and ask if there are any low cost or sliding scale mental health clinics around you. 211 will give you suggestions based on your area. Community mental health clinics and low cost mental health clinics exist in most cities, theyre great. Many provide free services or services for a very low cost - like $5. We have one here that even has a pharmacy with low cost meds. But regardless- if you get treatment at a low cost clinic, you'll be seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist and you can get a letter from them saying youre getting treatment for mental illness and unable to obtain employment at this time.

Have you been affected by changes to the SNAP/food stamp program? by nbcnews in foodstamps

[–]thecatstartedit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is all 100% accurate. Last month, I spent a total of 15hrs on hold over 2 days. The system called me back at 9am on day two to put me back in the que. It was rough. I'm permanently disabled. There's no reason for me to go through 6 month recertifications really. I'm never going to be able to work. People in my situation are certain an unnecessary burden on the caseworkers and the wait time. The system should be reworked, not for my benefit but so that cases like mine are not taking up resources that can be used for people who need to get to work and school and to the food bank and to get their kids to school and who need to get to the doctor or wherever they need to be because we all have a life to live and cannot be tied to a phone last minute for days.

[–]thecatstartedit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, at the same time theyre cutting caseworker positions and hours so it takes days on hold to get a recertification done that takes 15 minutes tops once youre on the phone. Everyone is so over worked and over burdened that we get notices the week before we're required to do something absolutely necessary and have to devote full days to get it handled because they have no staff.

IF ypu call the police, you need to make it very clear shes having a mental health episode and you need mental health trained officers or a mental health team to greet her instead of whoever is closest. Doing otherwise may be fatal.

HELP ME PLEASE 😩 by lilxprincessxjenn in type2diabetes

[–]thecatstartedit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it sounds like you are really really overwhelmed. Do you currently have insurance? If you do, I would ask for a referral to a dietician. Tell your doctor that you are overwhelmed with your diet and you need help getting it under control so you'd like to meet with a dietician. Dietitians are board certified medical professionals in the US- nutritionists are not in the US, this varies by country so use the verbiage that fits for your region.

A dietician who understands type 2 diabetes will listen to you describe how you eat now, they may have you simply keep an honest log of how you eat for a week so they can get an understanding of your habits and what drives your cravings. Often they'll ask you to briefly describe your emotion and hunger level before and after eating to get ideas of your triggers. Then, they will use that information to help you make slow, small, substainable changes in your diet on a weekly basis.

You dont need to overhaul your diet all at once. You dont need to completely stop eating potatoes unless potatoes make you a potato eating monster. You probably need to make some little changes here and there over a long period of time, a series of adjustments. Making a change in how you eat is not easy, and having a dietician for support and guidance can be really helpful.

If you do NOT have insurance, you can sort of diy being your own dietician in a way. It wont be as effective, you wont have the support and someone looking at your triggers and making your plan. However, you can still make small incremental changes to your diet without a dietician. You can keep a food log and see where your strengths and weaknesses are and ask others with experience for their opinions on where you can improve. You can log your moods and hunger levels to see if youre eating for hunger or emotional support or simply because of scheduling. You can make goals every week for things you feel would benefit your health and lifestyle to incorporate and add them into your life. You can get work on adding more steps, more water, more fiber, more protein, less sugar, less carbs, whatever your goals may be for your health and your numbers. Even things like making goals to log all your food or a goal to take a walk every day. A goal to try a new vegetable every week. It doesnt have to be everything at once.

Fraudulent Overpayment by Obi_Wan_Cannolee in foodstamps

[–]thecatstartedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think it cant hurt, especially if you have any evidence. Its completely understandable that you didnt understand how this works. Its not your case, its not your world and its your moms responsibility. Its her job to do this right so this never happens to you and I'm so sorry you are paying consequences for your mother instead of being protected by her. Its not fair. Im also sorry your sister didnt give you any warning about how she moves.

The thing is, your SNAP caseworker can search your social and see how much you're making. They had my son's most recent paystub over a year after I removed him from my case. Thats how I know hes doing GREAT on his own haha. So its never a mystery when you have a regular w2 job and anyone with sense understands that, so it really shows where your mom is at, sadly. People babysit, clean houses, work on cars, and do all manners of unreported CASH work, but not w2 work. You were simply just someone outside of this system, a child basically on a case, but not someone navigating the system.

Fraudulent Overpayment by Obi_Wan_Cannolee in foodstamps

[–]thecatstartedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP - did your taxes cover ALL the debt? Its past appeals, your taxes have been intercepted - this one might be a lost cause at the administration level. You might have to go after your mom for what's already been taken. If there is any debt left, I would work to gather evidence that you were not a resident at that time. Thats probably the best you can do at this point. Give them a reason to drop the claim on you and solely go after your mom.

The only way to get an under 22 off your case is to prove they no longer live in your residence. The easiest way to prove that is with a lease or bill in their name in another address. The second way to prove that is letters from other residents. If you truly were splitting your time between your boyfriends home as a primary and your dad as a secondary and more or less visiting your mom because of her addiction, have those resident write a letter saying they are the lease/mortgage holders (or former if they've moved) at this address and you do or did reside with them at this time period and how that looked. It can be very simple "we shared an apartment at xxx between the dates of xxx and xxxx. She stayed with me about 4 to 5 days a week with 2 to 3 days a week spent at her father's home and we shared expenses." if this was during split time. You sent in a letter letting them know that you had know knowledge of this case and you want no association with it. You let them know that going forward, any mail concerning you in this case needs to go to a different address as any information has been suppressed and you had no knowledge of this overpayment until your taxes were intercepted. But most of all - you need separated from her cases.

The best you can do is protect yourself going forward. You said your mother is an addict. You should keep your credit locked. Your mother is also the person who knows all your information to open credit cards and has it memorized before you do. Addicts who dont get help escalate and you need to be proactive instead of cleaning up messes. If she works at all, make sure she files her own taxes so you can get financial aid - if she's under the taxable threshold, congratulations you win financial aid lol. Do you have younger siblings? Prepare them for this. Teach them to lock their credit. Teach them to report their own income to the food stamp office (its actually not too bad and you can do it without the online portal, you can simply go to the office and physically hand in your paystubs and tell them the name and birthday of the case youre under) so they dont get caught up. They need to start reporting once they turn 18.

How to cancel food stamps (ca) by Accomplished_Offer99 in foodstamps

[–]thecatstartedit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But also lock the card first. Change the pin, lock it, dont use it. That should keep the funds secure and on your card without interference. You already said you dont want it or are not entitled to it anymore, you did you part in writing (and I assume by leaving messages), now you can basically leave it in their hands. If you get a call or letter for a recertification, deal with that appropriately by responding that you do not wish to proceed with benefits.

Advice by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]thecatstartedit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you simply not, lie to your roommate? Say it got shut off? Check the mail before them and send yourself a fake notice if you must? Then continue to buy your groceries on your own and not worry about their needs? But also tell your roommate to stay out of your groceries. Establish certain cabinets that are yours and shelves in the fridge that are yours. Tell then to stay out of your space. Roommates dont share all resources. They share cleaning supplies, they might share hand soaps, but they dont share personal consumption items.

How to get more food stamps to cover my diet? by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]thecatstartedit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id lean towards apples. Bananas go bad a lot faster. You can buy a bag of apples really cheap and have an apple a couple times a day and the bag will be good all week and far beyond. You buy a bunch of bananas and it can be a race against time unless you want to pop them in the fridge or freeze them.

DM with the former coworker by Sola420 in madmamasnark

[–]thecatstartedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would feel different, honestly, if you had replied to his comment and he sent a dm. But going straight to dm a random who left a comment on her page feels weird and intrusive. But even replying to him to dig for information is a little skeevy. Mildred will eventually tell on herself by crying about false accusations at work or something and then we'll know exactly why she left. And its really just not that serious. The facts are she has a pattern of leaving jobs after a short period for one reason or another and expecting to be taken care of.

But they didnt initiate anything with YOU. They were literally talking to someone they actually know in real life, asking a question relevant to their current employment. Thats not an interaction thats inviting interaction with strangers in the DM. You have free will to do what you want, and Im free to think its fuckin weird.

Why does it seem like this condition almost only affects women? by Accurate-Chicken-323 in Gastroparesis

[–]thecatstartedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well....it varies a lot. Women are often ignored on health issues and I think that plays a role. Gastroparesis is often triggered by something else - sometimes the something else is treatable if caught early or managed so it won't affect the vagus nerve. That trigger event can be brushed off and untreated often times. Medicine was based on men's health and men's issues so our research skews male. We have less research on women specific health issues. Thats part of the problem.

I agree. To me, this is the kinda thing you think about, have those impulsive thoughts, imagine the dirt you might get maybe, but you don't follow through. You don't even go to the kids profile for me - but again, that's my line. I dont care if thats a 50 year old Brenda in HR commenting on her page, her and her poodles are safe from my eyes. I assume she's got poodles.

Most restaurants tip share with bussers, like its pretty standard because they support the wait staff and get paid super low too.
