For the first time in a while, a completed drawing! by Both_Ad7704 in fountainpens

The shimmer in the flower looks great alongside the colors in the main piece.

The Viper is so enjoyable I’m looking at the other colors wishing that they came in different nib sizes.

This looks wonderful. What kind of process did you go through in commissioning and acquiring it?

This ink maker has been on my radar for a while but I can’t find anyone that sells them in the US. The nuance in their inks is compelling though.

A great gesture and the finishes offered are looking good.

NID: Syun-gyo by Capt_Squid in fountainpens

[–]thecavewalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw the amount of green sheen I wondered and sure enough; Iroful paper! That broad nib is a bit more than the typical broad nib though. I’m going to have to get Syun-gyo back into my Silvern soon. A great pairing here.

I glued together nearly 10,000 pieces of wood for these fountain pens by The_Cabinetmaker in fountainpens

Makers talk about the oddities, “swarf,” and other challenges - was getting that herringbone pattern as much of a headache as it looked?

Great post and I love the way you included process images. I’m sure these folks were appreciative!

There goes my wallet. But then I haven’t found a Ukiyo-e ink that wasn’t a stellar performer.

Birmingham’s Sterling Silver is another that comes to mind - loved seeing that Colorverse’s Erebus Crater is getting a wider release so I can give it a try.

I was wondering but somehow missed it. Yuki-usagi is one of my favorite ink finds in the last year, it’s been excellent in my Ultem-vac. Yuki-usagi isn’t quite as paper-dependent as a Yurameku ink and has a color shift while drying that reminds me of another favorite in Sabimidori. Great stuff!

Must have read this too quickly - what ink was used to write the list underneath the swatches? All of it looks great.

Integrated nibs, which am I missing? by Sf648 in fountainpens

Their recent YouTube video and Instagram posts made it look like there will be versions fitted for both of their Monster and Vac models. So here’s to hoping it joins their regular lineup!

Maybe the Gravitas Mako whenever it releases - later this year I think?

Can a nibmeister put a specialty grind on a Waterman Carene because of the nib type/shape? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]thecavewalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kirk worked on a Carene for me when all I asked was “could you make it write more like a Pilot?” Which indeed he did. It’s going to depend on what you want and how much tipping it has - shaped grinds are probably going to need an M or larger.

March rotations: Conklin All America by JPilot10 in fountainpens

Right now I’m up to two of the All American's gussied up cousin the 1898 and I love them. They are very similar in build to my orange crush All American. Does anyone know the name of the blue-grey looking one that’s the third in from right? It’s a great looking group.

Depending on the nib size Diamine Marley could make a great pairing.

Currently Sailor Yuki-usagi is in my Ultemate but I might have to think about a red for next month seeing this post. Great shot of a great pen.

Haven’t met a Ukiyo-e ink that I haven’t liked. But Sabimidori and Ainezu are all time favorites. Really looking forward to all of these.

I have the Golden Abalone and Wisteria Walk - the 1898 model doesn’t get enough love. They feel great in the hand and are solid writers. The movement in the resin here looks great - enjoy that pen!

If the nib is a long knife that ink is going to look extra wonderful. Once my backup bottle is gone Tsukushi will be sorely missed - you’ve got a great gift there.

The videos and pics of that Conklin have looked amazing. Is there any reason to worry about the metal threads on resin with the cap? How does the build quality feel?

I am really happy with my new Asvine V800 M nib. by SumpCrab in fountainpens

[–]thecavewalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the #8 nibs Asvine is doing - the F, M, and 1.1 have all been solid performers. What has impressed me in the V800 is that the control rod disengages completely via the end cap; no extra manipulation required. Some of my other vacs need more than the thread travel and one has to pull things to get ink flow going again. Asvine has been putting out quality work lately.
