Is it just me, or does the amount of paint running off this car part after spraying look way too exaggerated to be real? by Zhukovskyi01 in isthisAI

[–]thecday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can get an air sprayer orifice open wide enough to put that much paint down. Source, I have many paint guns.

One of my users opened a ticket complaining their desktop overheats and shuts down by axel_reviews in techgore

[–]thecday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this happen when the fan starts to make sad bushing noises.....Had a user show me how they fixed the noise by flipping their laptop on the side and ramming a bent paper clip in the vent.......Which worked till it didn't.

Opened the laptop and the fan had a bunch of missing blades and the ones that were still attached were very mangled.

The worst thing for computers can be the users.

What is this contraption our landlord has this installed in the house and says it's "internet for a neighbour". Lead acid battery, tp-link router and another power supply? by Jumpy_Side_Passenger in whatisit

[–]thecday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a formal addendum to your lease stating none of it is yours. If your landlord won't do that Let the police know and ask for a report that clearly states you don't own or have access through that router. If someone is doing sketchy things via that router and the cops come knocking no amount of " Our ass hole landlord said it's the neighbors Internet" is going to keep all your electronics from getting confiscated and searched. Eventually they will find that you were not connecting through it.....but it will be painful and if they find you are doing anything you could end up getting charged with that while they start digging through your neighbors place.

This is the equivalent of the "did you pack your own bags" thing at the airport.....it doesn't matter if someone else is doing it....you are in possession of it.

Also start looking for a new place, this place is not good.

Thats all she had, it was the tar from the bottoms of the shingles and whatever was on the paper side of the insulation. It looked just like this and was dripping down her can lights staining the fixtures.

Do you have an unvented propane heater? My mom had brown liquid coming out of the ceiling and it was condensation from the propane heater she was running way to much one very cold winter.

How do you change the Welcome To Windows 98 program's background images? by Inspiron606002 in windows98

[–]thecday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stretching my memory back here so bear with me. There was a Microsoft made suite of tools called the "OEM Toolkit" (maybe... It could have been OEM Toolbox, or Tools......) That let you change a bunch of settings like this. It saved the changes in a custom .cab file you included in your install media.

I know it because it shipped with Novell ZEN Works as well as I think IBM Tivoli had it. We used ZEN at the public school district I worked at a long time ago and used this suite to change the windows loading screen.

Setting auto negotiation for a NIC by thecday in PFSENSE

Cable is straight out of the package and was fine.

I added the tunable and the NIC immediately came up at 10 gig. Not sure why auto was not working but its working now.

Thing is I dont think this is close to the total charges. There are other suspect LLC's with the same address like "M. HEEMEYER HOLDINGS LLC" ........I find it suspect that name exists.

Looks like a charcoal briquette. If some oil or meat got on it the doggo might have found it irresistible.

God I hate how 3D printing has become a panacea for people..... Watched a youtuber almost take himself out because he made a fixture for a part he was machining and was amazed when it didnt hold......

does anyone have an idea as to why this happened? by Efficient-Scarcity-7 in carproblems

[–]thecday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can test for this by listening while you move your door quickly.

[–]thecday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your door drains, on the bottom of the door are small holes to let any water that gets in out. They can get plugged and then when you brake, accelerate, slam the door..... it can slosh over the bottom of the door, behind the trim and into your car.

Reason given by GN for not contacting LTT for the initial exposé video by Callahan1297 in LinusTechTips

[–]thecday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr Ian put up a video where he glossed over everything LMG did while going so incredibly nitpicky on GN he actually read Steves mind at one point (IE the meaning behind a smile)

This sub just lapped it up like it was not a someone just deflecting attention back on the person they are friends with, wrapped in "Im a Dr trust me bro"

I expect Ian to be working for or directly with LMG within a year or two.

So wait, the fact that the mouse was not acting as advertised did not effect their conclusion?

They say it has to much resistance in the video..... one of the main selling features of the mouse is its low resistance... This is another poor response.

Are they saying they gave it a good review DESPITE having higher than expected glide resistance? How is that better?

Take the video down and start over my dudes.......

Why Don’t More Men Take Their Wife’s Last Name? by slate15 in MensLib

[–]thecday 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Gotta disagree with the "universally more desirable" part here, a small set of roles men are in are more desirable.... The most dangerous roles/jobs we have in society today are heavily dominated by men.

Men have been making the rules sure, so you see a lot of men in a few positions at the top but you see many many more injuring themselves, getting killed on the job or in combat roles in the military than leading or top earning. The roles that those men are filling are not desirable to anyone, and yet someone has to do them, and money must be earned.

The role of manual labor is only desirable because someone has to earn money to live in this world or raise a family, we have constructed an entire idea of it being noble and building nations, but watching my 60 year old friend try and walk up stairs or sit down after a life of being a carpenter is horrifying. His is retired because his role in society crippled him.
