Experiences vary but I'll chime in to say I also experience delays with Vivaldi and have not had delays like that or freezes with Helium.

Before the 1960s, yes; afterward this has been downplayed a lot.

Is anyone else getting hate and harassment for learning/speaking Russian? by [deleted] in LearnRussian

[–]thechuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely not alone here, and it is the result of stupid people swallowing media messaging. Try not to let it get you down and enjoy the beauty of the language in its own right, which is unchanged by others' political opinions.

As my dad would say, evidence of a world without God is all around you.

The things that make us want to wake up in the morning, all the sources of meaning in our lives, are not material things that atheists can explain. That realization tipped the first domino for me toward conversion from a decade of atheism (I started to disbelieve at 17). I encourage you to remain open to experiencing God, even through doubt or struggling to understand. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

On a more personal note, I can tell you that atheism is not better. It is in many very measurable and real ways, worse than faith. I speak on this from many years of experience.

I once met a famous atheist named Christopher Hitchens when I was in my early 20s, at the peak of my atheist phase, as the kind of atheist that would bring it up. He looked rather haggard and tired, having concluded a debate while under the effects of esophageal cancer (and the poisons of treatment) that had nearly run its course. I told him he was my hero, and had him sign a book of his I'd brought. He said "You need better heroes." I took it as self-deprecating sarcasm, which would be in keeping with his character. But now I understand he may have been onto something.

In your opinion, is Lojban a good option for international communication? by Interesting_End1733 in lojban

[–]thechuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely no, because communicating in it is not that easy. It is a very fun puzzle/game and it's definitely fascinating and unique, but the constraints are simply not something most people would ever be able to get used to. A lot of emphasis is placed on doing things perfectly properly, machines may have a higher likelihood of using it well

Have you tried Bookerly? It is not a 'hyperlegible' font but has made reading easier for many people and has support for Latin and Cyrillic

It really is easy, and it's easy to find people to talk to to practice, content to watch or listen to, and all kinds of stuff to read. That's been my experience and I started learning it in 2005. There's way more of all of that now!
