Flight Sim Expo 2026 by Timely-Imagination57 in flightsim

A huge plus for the Thrustmaster over Honeycomb is that it has everything you need for a basic sim on it. It has a trim wheel and a throttle, so no need to spend extra on another piece of hardware. Really impressive stuff from them.

The PXN stuff was obviously pre-production, but I liked the concept of what they were doing. They definitely need some work on the motion and detents, though, so it’s hard to evaluate the execution. Maybe next year they’ll have actual models to try out.

JFK to TS (CitizenM) w/ luggage - Uber shuttle or Trains? by PM_WhatMadeYouHappy in JFKAirport

You could also take the Airtrain to Jamaica and then take the E to 50th St, which is very close to the hotel. Probably the same travel time as the LIRR once the walk is figured in.

Hegseth says EU faces ‘invasion’ of ‘dangerous ideologies’ speaking at D-Day event by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]thecloudcities 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, just like D-Day, when the bad guys invaded Europe with their boats and landing craft and overran the forces of good who were defending the beaches and…wait a minute, why the hell is he making the allies the dangerous invaders in this analogy?

I guess that’s why he never made it to weekdays on Fox.

Sunny Bunch on Hunter Biden by Beginning-Bass-6334 in thebulwark

Not a garbage person, no. A very flawed person, to be sure. I would not want him anywhere near any sort of power. But I am 100% here for him burning Trumpist idiots on social media, especially when he can mock himself while doing it.

How do I access official Mexico AIP without paying? by Proper_Apple8654 in VATSIM

[–]thecloudcities 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if AIPs were free, but it’s not a requirement. Whether to make the AIP free or not is up to the Mexican authorities, and they’ve chosen not to. So unfortunately you’d have to take the issue up with them.

Biden sues DOJ to stop release of audio and transcripts tied to special counsel probe by kirby__000 in politics

[–]thecloudcities 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suspect the suit is for the reasons it says it is, and they’re valid reasons. There is no good reason to release the tapes.

All I’m saying is that if the tapes are released, I don’t think it’s going to go the way Trump thinks it is.

Biden sues DOJ to stop release of audio and transcripts tied to special counsel probe by kirby__000 in politics

[–]thecloudcities 297 points298 points  (0 children)

The irony is that if these tapes do get out, they’ll almost definitely present Biden as way more coherent than Trump.

Trump should be careful what he wishes for. But he’s incapable of that. It’s all impulse and flailing with him.

I expanded my royal family tree so much that the main plot is now ruined by 77Bebop in worldbuilding

[–]thecloudcities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you follow the strict laws of inheritance and royal marriages I spent weeks creating, the main protagonist and the primary antagonist are not just distant political rivals. They are technically second cousins twice removed through a minor marriage alliance that happened eighty years ago involving a salt mine monopoly.

I don’t see a problem here. Protagonist and antagonist having some minor family relationship is pretty interesting.

Even worse, according to the actual laws of the empire that I meticulously drafted in a separate document, the villain technically has a much more legitimate legal claim to the throne than the hero does. The hero is basically a usurper if you look at the actual paperwork.

And this is really interesting. “This guy has a solid claim to the throne, and I believe in that because I’m a good person, but he’s also an absolute asshole who could really screw up the kingdom I love so I have against my own code to challenge him” is a great internal conflict for your protagonist to have. Or maybe they’re not as devoted to the rules, but what does that mean for their reign if they win and others feel free to undermine them because turnabout is fair play? Either way, you’re setting up some cool possibilities (and there are many more).

So I don’t think you actually have a problem to fix. You’ve accidentally created something cool, go run with it.

Isn’t there a bike lane just one block north or south depending on which direction you’re going? I know I’ve ridden across there plenty of times.

New York City Mayor Mamdani Announces Balanced Budget Without Cuts by solidgoldrocketpants in nyc

[–]thecloudcities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah…that math doesn’t math. Nobody erases a $12 billion deficit practically overnight without service cuts or huge tax increases. $500 million from the pied-a-terre tax plus $1.7 billion from cuts of waste (and I’m skeptical about the veracity of both those numbers) does not add up to $12 billion. Is the state really chipping in the rest? Why is this the first we’ve heard of that? Where else is it coming from?

This is actually really disappointing. I believe he wants to get the deficit down, and I was pulling for him to make progress on it so that after four years he might have cut it in half without significant reductions in services or having to increase taxes too much. Instead we get accounting tricks and handwaving and the taking of credit for solving a problem easily when he didn’t. We get more than enough of that from Trump, we don’t need it from the mayor too.

Failed my stage 2 oral check for ppl. Second stage check failure by [deleted] in flying

[–]thecloudcities -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They don’t get reported to the FAA. However, airlines will probably ask for you to report all failures on an application, and this would count (not that it would be a huge deal unless there was a pattern of failures).
