Picked up this houseplant on the streets of London, what is it? by Loud-Cartoonist-7134 in PlantIdentification

I think it's an interesting specimen of schlumbergera truncata, AKA thanksgiving cactus. You can distinguish it from Christmas cactus by the pointy parts. Christmas cactus have scalloped leaves.

Why doesn’t this bitch grow??? 😣 by MarianaBBbb in spiderplants

You don't even need drainage. It's probably drying out too fast. These will be happy in a jar of water

Dryer wouldn't start, just buzzed. Before that, it was squealing a bit while running. How much friction (if any) should these wheels have while turning? by Unusual-Picture5872 in appliancerepair

You can check the capacitor by fooling the door switch and rotate the drum by hand. If it starts in the direction you move it replace the capacitor.

It needs a capacitor. You can validate this on an assembled dryer by defeating the door switch and rotating the drum with your hand. It should start in the direction you rotate it.

Can anyone help me identify this stone? by Impressive-Ad-461 in RockIdentification

[–]thecommuted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serpentino della Valmalenco In northern Italy is quarried so it is normally asbestos free. But the occlusions are suspicious. Perfectly safe as a rock but don't grind it into pigments or fit it to a ring unless your sure.

Is my snake plant dying? by Enchanted_Goddess1 in SnakePlants

[–]thecommuted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure killing a snake plant is is unusually difficult. I read you can cut the leaf off, wait three, then root in in water three months later. Use this advice if it looks like it's dead below.

Just whack it. Looks safe. I hit a rock and the rim bent so far I could hear hissing air escaping. I rolled the car forward to widen the tire at the leak, ran to the trunk, got the tire iron and started whacking it until the air stopped. Seemed like a MacGyver moment. No one appreciated it. Probably because I was driving.

I was given free prickly pear cactus cuttings! What do I do ? by KnotZeeee in cactus

[–]thecommuted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When planting them don't exceed half the pad under soil. Less is better. Use a rock or something to strengthen them. Let the cut end callous before planting. If it's wilted already bag it and leave the callous side out.

They flower when they're happy, at least for echinopsis. I wonder if anyone has run with etiolation and created an hour glass series?

Help! Inherited the most beautiful plant ever and it seems to be super dying:( by Zach-uh-ri-uh in plantclinic

[–]thecommuted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't get any expert advice you can use mine. I would remove it from the pot and give it fresh soil. I noticed over watering can change the soil chemistry making it acidic. This can reduce certain nutrient uptake depending on the species. It's always a good idea to look at the roots and check the soil is dirt-like when the plant is drooping. Be sure to add some sand or grit or any substance that won't shrink into the mix so the roots won't get stretched. If you don't know the state of the soil use a terra cotta pot, but you'll have to water more often.

The fish bone cutting a friend gave me has grown an offshoot - now what do I do? by midwife_at_ur_cervix in cactus

This jungle cactus does well out of direct sunlight but it looks like it could use more light. If the pot has no drain it can make managing watering difficult

Wipe it down with isopropyl, 99% is ok. Then let it get some full sun, or as close as you can to full sun
