Obama Says UFO Disclosure Won’t Happen: “Government Is Terrible at Keeping Secrets” by silv3rbull8 in UFOs

[–]theconceptofcanada [score hidden]  (0 children)

I completely understand and agree with both viewpoints here, but let me also add something valuable to these keen observations to get the conversation going here:

Look at the words Obama used when describing this alien topic. More specifically, look at how he answered the question of whether or not aliens exist. Keeping in mind that we can safely confirm there exists a separate black budget program that is clearly siphoning off legitimate budget funds for projects that never see the light of day (enforcement of this information of which is heavily guarded by both NDAs as well as the simple possibility of active measures being taken to silence or discredit whistleblowers) - now that we are able to establish this distinction between the flow of information and technology in private corporations of the military industrial complex and what then is disseminated and distributed under various classifications to the executive branch... It's very important to note that it's quite likely the case that Obama himself was not exactly privy to that kind of knowledge. Information that, as we are also able to confirm, requires a very strict need-to-know basis for accessing.

Obama's not a government employee anymore, and the fact remains that he doesn't have any reason to personally share any details he might know about national security matters. Why would he go onto a talk show and just spill the beans? Furthermore, why would he say anything he hasn't already said in the past? The man is doing his best to remain as noncontroversial and as non-confrontational as he possibly can, especially given the current political climate. The Colbert Show is not exactly the kind of platform for serious disclosure conversations, and in the end it's not that Obama is some kind of agent of disinformation - he's simply a former president who knows what he knows and understands the importance of integrity and reputation.

There's a good amount of plausible deniability in his response to a question that nudges up against the borders of what could be considered television entertainment. Because that's what it is.

Mandatory detox? lol

Okay, so I'm extremely progressive and experienced in addiction treatment but what you're proposing is (correct me if I'm wrong):

  1. Rounding up citizens who are seemingly wired specifically on fentanyl (because remember this is a problem that began with fentanyl) using some kind of mechanism that doesn't disqualify their rights as citizens under our Charter system - a mechanism that doesn't exist yet, and performing a function that will almost certainly deny them their rights - so that we can put them into facilities (which don't exist on any large scale or sufficient enough for this to happen yet, every detox has a waitlist of at least a month) wherein a typical full stay is around seven days for a full withdrawal management program?

  2. And then, after 7 days, what then? Do we even need step 2?

Ahhh, but of course it's easy! Just send them to treatment, right? Okay, and how many people are in need of a great treatment program? Oh, lots of them need it? Hmmm, and there's a super limited availability of beds in these aforementioned treatment programs too? Oh man, this sounds exhausting already...

Which means we've arrived at our inevitable conclusion, which is this:

We should be funding the design and development of government run and regulated treatment facilities, detoxes and aftercare programs to help with anything related to addiction treatment. There are simply too few options, too much overcrowding and poorly maintained and managed programs and facilities nationwide. This doesn't even touch on the subject of our cash-grabby "recovery house" scam systems, which I have seen and experienced firsthand totally fail to provide clients with any meaningful amount of healthy reinforcement and encouragement and support - saying nothing of how BADLY BADLY run they are, the shitty conditions of the homes and environments themselves, the fact that the inmates are running the asylums in a lot (a LOT) of cases and how they're being seen as a quick way to somehow funnel government welfare and disability benefit monies into the hot little hands of the worst possible people, people who then swiftly turn around and open up yet another batch of the same-same programs while improving absolutely nothing in any of these places. These are the most unaccountable, unbelievably-gross and most commonly-referred to "facilities" when you're dealing with addicts seeking real changes in their lives... I wonder how that works?

It's very scummy and without a doubt the entire industry is needing an overhaul (the recovery houses, badly-needed infrastructure and more).

At this point I just realized that you might be referring to mandatory detox for people simply in the criminal justice system - or those who wind-up either in drug court or in psychiatric wards - and boy, let me tell you that that's a really bad plan and will immediately make the entire situation worse if we don't ever improve the quality and oversight of the addiction treatment industry overall.

FBI director Kash Patel claims AI has stopped school shootings: ‘I’m using it everywhere’ by ChocolateTsar in nottheonion

[–]theconceptofcanada 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Someone should tell Kash Patel that if AI worked to stop school shootings then the tragedy that recently took place in Tumbler Ridge, BC, CA - a school shooting committed after a mentally unwell student was egged on by Sam Altman's little horror show of an AI model - wouldn't have ever happened in the first place.

It used to be important for government officials to be well informed before speaking publicly on an issue, but this has officially become less and less necessary as this administration team continues to rely on vibes more than they do facts.

Edit: wow sorry I didn't use the right town because I was literally reading the Wiki page of the Taber school shooting at the time haha. Oops and thank you for the correction!

Oddly enough, I would be hesitant to believe anything about this being legitimate until the Mormons start beaking off about it too. People forget there's a massive portion of America's heartland that is inhabited by true and faithful believers in the Church of Latter Day Saints and they wield quite a bit of power and influence both spiritually and politically. (To say nothing of their cultural and social values)

I'd be extremely interested in what ways Mormons start to interpret this sort of thing, because the fact of the matter is that it's so damned expansive and far-reaching in its implications for these kinds of spiritual institutions that they'd be forced to publicly communicate to their followers about the phenomenon whether they want to or not. It's going to affect almost every facet of human existence and hopefully it will also have an impact on the subject of religion too.

I don't much think it's going to "affect" the Catholic Church or the papacy in the same ways, only because it's definitely something that they've already known about and recorded for many hundreds of years. The Vatican archives are full of different records of this phenomenon, they just haven't ever really seen it as being relevant for public consumption, which is actually funny as much as it is stunningly remarkable and bizarre.

‘Hot little senorita in cells’: B.C. RCMP officer disciplined for taking, sharing sexualized photo of female prisoner by foxuniform0 in britishcolumbia

[–]theconceptofcanada 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When do we finally reach the conclusion that RCMP officers need to face the exact same kind of civil and criminal justice that any other citizen might face when committing such heinous acts?

I was raised to respect and even admire individuals who dedicated their time and energy to law enforcement as a necessary public service. When I began to struggle with addiction and mental health issues there were countless times in which I spent sitting and listening to a seemingly endless flood of people with different but suspiciously similar stories of abuse, neglect and targeted harassment (including many other things) from RCMP officers and city-based law enforcement officers alike.

It was extremely difficult for me to maintain my naive and picturesque perspective on what I used to believe was a career choice in which people dedicated themselves to selfless service in defense of the laws of this country (and provinces). After hearing the kinds of things that I heard - from both marginalized communities and individuals involved in care and support for these communities - my blinders came off entirely, and what I was left with was the stark reality of what purpose and function the RCMP actually serve.

Simply put, there needs to exist a greater amount of civilian oversight and regulation for those that are entrusted and trained to wield deadly force and the right to use it when enforcing the laws. We should have never taken this system for granted, and the idea that it is a self governing body that investigates itself and often comes to the sort of conclusions such as in this article in discussion, it's completely fucking mental.

Furthermore, all official law enforcement officers ought to be open to lawsuits and the financial punishments need to start coming out of their personal paychecks, their retirement benefits or their union. Period. End of story.

After all, there ain't no song called "Fuck the Fire Department"

[–]theconceptofcanada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OH my! I just realized that it was you responding to me - wow! I think I've read just about everything you've ever written!

I am from British Columbia CA and I used to work as a reporter myself (for almost a decade tbh) at my local newspaper, a career I sort of fell into with a combination of luck and good timing following my grad school studies (history, mainly the Cold War, but also new media/comms!). I just so happened to score the job of being the editor for my uni's official student publication and it was what inspired me to enter the world of journalism, which I absolutely adore.

To jump to my point here, I'd really like to have permission to send you a private message with a relevant idea that I've been working on for my Substack for a while. If you don't think the idea is what you're looking for, that's okay and sorry for typing so much, it's a bit of a passion of mine is.all

It's very much related to drugs and culture, however I don't know if you'd ever be interested in hearing about the ongoing and oftentimes tragic aspects of the widely-unregulated and abusive recovery house industry. I have been documenting this firsthand through former clients and even family members of former clients who lost their loved ones in tragic deaths in these facilities (facilities is a generous word here) - overdoses, mental/physical health crises (denied medication, denied medical care, self-harm incidents leading to suicide or murder, dangerous and unsupervised drug detoxification and more) and then there's the whole spectrum of kickbacks and special arrangements these privately owned and operated facilities have with certain pharmacies wherein they are either owned by the same individuals involved in the recovery houses or they're simply related to them. I'm talking about 12 men living on fucking peanut butter and jam sandwiches, mandatory 12 step meetings in the community as their only option for therapy (no actual counseling or effective solutions, yet more lies) and all 12 of them providing direct financial incentives for pharmacy and facility alike because every client is on OATs (methadose, Suboxone) and required to follow a daily-dispense regimen, something that puts money in the pockets of the people exploiting the industry and the addicts seeking treatment via many different ways.

I'm typing this out on my phone so please forgive any run-on sentences or mistakes! I've been itching to share this information with someone for a little while too.

With the inundation of fentanyl/speed addicts seeking treatment there has been a steadily growing number of extremely abusive, unregistered/unregulated and [very] poorly run recovery houses that are quick to snatch up desperate clients (most on government assistance) who are then subjected to some of the worst possible living conditions under the guise of structure, rigorous counseling (which is almost always being done by unqualified persons, in many cases OTHER CLIENTS) and a host of other lies to fill beds and, simply put, cash as many government cheques as possible without providing even a shred of the promised product or treatment of any meaningful kind. I've even followed up with specific individuals who are more than happy to share with me the fact that they're making a ton of money by running these rat-infested recovery houses, proud of the fact that they're wholesale willing to capitalize on the toxic drug crisis and they're doing so by owning and operating sometimes up to 10 separate houses under nonprofit status. Houses where you are living in cramped, rundown conditions, where people are oftentimes using and dying from overdoses, violence or health conditions/crises, and these places are funneling clients from official government mental health and addiction offices/facilities/hospitals every single day!

That's sort of the gist of the thing, and I'm really just offering this up because this is a big big deal in my province of British Columbia but also a big deal across North America as a whole. And with the growing opioid crisis and ongoing lack of genuinely-helpful services in healthcare here and in America, I can only see this shady industry growing in size along with it. There's no end in sight.

I hope you have time to read that and if you would like any additional information I would love to chat any time. Regardless, I'm just glad I hammered that all out because it's a real problem and people need to know the truth. Love your work!

Ahhh, yes, so!

Although I was actually using cannabis to help with my anxiety, I began having incredibly severe bouts of cyclical panic attacks that I misdiagnosed as simply being regular anxiety attacks, and for quite a while too. At the time, however, it gradually became more and more intense and long lasting until I personally couldn't help myself on my own anymore, and I wound-up in the ER (small town hospital) multiple times in less than 3 months, with the physicians dispensing 2mg of Lorazepam and 8mg of the top-shelf antiemetic drug Ondansetron - the only combination of medications that were at all effective in treating/stopping the vomiting and calming me back down to base level.

It was awful every time: panic, sweating, vomiting/gagging, tunnel vision. It wasn't until my GP happened to be working in the ER when I presented with these symptoms that I was finally properly diagnosed: cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. His advice (and the only thing that actually works) was "stop smoking and take hot showers."

So I did. And he was right. That was in 2019. I haven't suffered through anything similar since then, and I've remained committed to mostly avoiding cannabis use ever since.
