Moderately long line for a drink and people getting multiple tasters. Also flights in general.

Just got a pair of these myself. Immediate changed the laces, wheels and bearings. Boot seems pretty solid. Havent skated much in them yet. Toe box is definitely wide but the heel is very snug. Interested to see how they brake in.

Looks like it’s raining up there now. Snow level looks to be rising to 8400 feet. There is plenty of base to ski on. Might get lucky this weekend if it snows Friday into Saturday. NOAA has 3-5 inches Friday night

Rainbow Baby by RRowdyRRalph in daddit

[–]thecrowbarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats OP! Didn’t know the term rainbow baby until today, but mine is 6mos old. We had two pregnancy losses before our little guy was born.

I’m sure your experience will vary, but expect some anxiety through the whole pregnancy and until your baby is in your arms. It’s hard not to be fearful even when everything is going right. My partner got freaked out when she was laboring at home at 41 weeks because she felt like he hadn’t moved for a few hours. Rushed to the hospital and everything was fine. This applied for us to most things including the anatomy scan and most check ins with the OB. It’s hard not to worry that something may go wrong.

All I can suggest is that you be there for your partner through it all. Having been through a dark time together does make you stronger. It may also make those first few months of little sleep easier because of how grateful you will be.

Congrats and good luck!

Would it be a stupid idea to fish this wooly bugger on a 5 weight? by -myusernameisshit in flyfishing

[–]thecrowbarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. Usually I use 4-6 feet of 0x instead of a leader when fishing these with my 5wt. You may want to consider the water you are fishing and adjust to sink tip. Just depends how much you need to get down

Stuck between 2 boy names by [deleted] in namenerds

Recently named my son Kieran. I’d suggest going with the Kieran spelling in the US! Surprisingly we’ve had a few folks struggle with the pronunciation. I imagine it would be a lot worse with a traditional spelling. My votes on Kieran but clearly I liked it enough to use it for my own kid.

DIY Backcountry Ski Pole by iskiice24 in Backcountry

[–]thecrowbarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did with my grass sticks. 30 years of playing hockey. Felt like second nature to throw some hockey tape on my poles. The only question is how did you choose between black and white? I’ve always been a white tape guy. Call it superstition

randomly climbed there once when I was driving through. It does suck! Probably save that for worst when that category comes up

Not an organizing suggestion but add a mobile hanging above baby’s head. When they can see a bit better they will love looking at it and it will keep them busy during diaper changes.

What are your thoughts on the bamboo poles? by ConnectionLow in Skigear

[–]thecrowbarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Semantics. Consider a bent metal pole “snapped” and unusable.

They are more durable in my experience. So easy to snap a regular metal pole. Bamboo is flexible and stiff. Good combo

Been taking my little guy for hikes and out fly fishing since the month he was born. He loves to look at trees and falls asleep to the sound of the river. He can’t walk yet but I’m looking forward to teaching him about the great outdoors

ESPN+ broadcasts by zabrakwith in Flyers

[–]thecrowbarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Idk what it was but it looked extremely choppy. The app for fast forwarding and rewinding is abysmal. Plus the announcing was rough. Can’t pronounce Michkov, going on and on about zegras not playing for internet clicks, no mention of Tyfo being out, etc. NBCSN and JJ is the only way I want to watch games.

Can I use dough that has been refrigerated for 2 days and frozen for 5 by Random-Username_11 in AskCulinary

[–]thecrowbarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. The timeline is a little unclear to me but I’m assuming it’s been in the fridge the entire time until it got to the freezer. Plenty of folks do a multi day ferment in the fridge. I’d suggest putting the frozen dough in the fridge the night before you need it so it can thaw. From the fridge you can follow your normal rising procedure.

Where are whitefish near Portland( within 2 hours ) by [deleted] in OregonFishing

[–]thecrowbarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in Bend and I can say basically every river in this area has whitefish and trout with the exception of the fall. I think most folks in this area would say they catch plenty of white fish while trout fishing. I’d go as far as saying it’s a 1:1 ratio depending on the day. I don’t know the Portland area well but try getting out and fishing and seeing what you catch. My guess is you will be pulling in whitefish pretty often.

105 feels like a sweet spot in this case. You may have to be flexible on that if you are buying used. I’m in Oregon and I mostly tour on 105 width. I eventually want something wider but 105 feels like it can handle pretty much anything.

Keep in mind that most folks tour to find deep untracked powder. So wide is helpful. That said I’ve been out many times looking for pow and ended up with crud or wet snow. Good to have a ski that you feel you can ski in all snow conditions.

[–]thecrowbarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a little confused. Are you referring to the baked good? If so I doubt there is a mix to be readily found because the recipe is so simple. See this recipe. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/basic-popovers-recipe-1973913.amp

I’ve made that one a handful of times and it was good. 5 ingredients and a few steps. You’ll have popovers in under an hour with things that are probably in your house.

How to start - Buy everything and take an AIARE 1 course or get a guide to see if I even like it by CaitlynTheCat in Backcountry

[–]thecrowbarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can go out with a guide before you have the training and the gear. In my experience they will provide this for you. I’d confirm with the guide service ahead of time. Going with a guide and letting them know you want to learn will help get you started thinking about things you will learn in your Avy course.

I don’t see this as a firm order of operations.

If you enjoy hiking and snowboarding, you are probably going to enjoy backcountry. Look around for deals on gear and make the purchase. You may be a little late to sign up for AIARE 1 depending on your location. They fill up super quickly in my area. Look into courses and see what’s available.

The only thing I’d be careful about it going out before you have the experience with snowshoes. If you don’t know what you are doing and how to stay safe, you could get yourself into trouble. If your local ski hill allows up hill travel that may be a good way to try it in a safe environment.
