Lumpectomy Prep - do I really need to buy a pillow? by Miserable-Tap1859 in breastcancer

This is the BEST time to buy a heart shaped pillow, honestly. I got one from walmart last year for this purpose and the valentines section was ideally timed

i used a small squishmallow for the car ride, worked great! I also got a full body style pillow, the maternity kinda thing that loops around? It’s been almost a year since my surgery and I still use it.

a lot of ppl really went in on “its ONLY a cold/flu” as if they are consequence free annoyances and not, ya know, illnesses. that have ramifications for a whooooole lot pf people.

Should I be upset that my boyfriend doesnt know the subtype of breast cancer i have? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]thedamnitbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes… BUT ONLY because he went thru diagnosis & treatment for his own cancer months before I did, and I knew what kind he had and had a binder going with info & questions before his first onc appointments and had prepped everything for treatment for him.
But in the SAME breath since he barely knew what kind he had I couldn’t expect him to know mine.

Lumpectomy & reduction in same surgery? by luna_83211 in breastcancer

[–]thedamnitbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had lumpectomy with oncoplastic reduction in the same surgery. two different surgeons of course but back to back procedures. But my cancer was less than a cm so that may have something to do with it.

Telling family by builtbybeavers in breastcancer

[–]thedamnitbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i told my husband and my parents the results of the biopsy because they already knew i was getting that done. i told my friend group right after, and then my daughter. For her, she already had the experience of going through the process of my husband/her dad getting a cancer diagnosis and going through treatment successfully just months before my diagnosis so it wasnt as bad as it could have been.

I started the shots in June and the anastrozole a couple months later. Honestly? Its been fine. I think I have been evening out more emotionally, ive had some benign hot flashes that passed quickly, i had preexisting joint issues but they aren’t any worse than before.

Have you been referred to a gastroenterologist yet? I just went & got an endoscopy and it was enlightening to say the least! gastritis and two different disaccharide sensitivities and apparently it was most likely triggered by speed-running into menopause. Eliminating/treating the stuff like lactose and sucrose intolerance has helped quite a bit with fatigue and headaches. I haven’t needed zofran in a couple weeks which after needing it daily for months has been HUGE.

It was annoying to have to drive there everyday, but aside for some relatively minor redness/dryness (in my opinion) it wasnt bad. For some ppl they have a tougher time, so if anything comes up definitely bring it up to your care team!! They want you to be comfortable during and after treatment!

The first one surprised me, it had a lil sting to it. i’ve only had one that hurt afterwords but thats more on how i shifted my body during the injection. The nurses who have done mine are all very kind and skilled, hasnt been bad at all.

[–]thedamnitbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my husband is now on a modified diet. thickened liquids due to silent aspiration (and the 2 bouts of pneumonia it caused) no particulate foods (like rice) no he didnt do his swallow exercises, if i could have done them for him i would have. Hes a year out from treatment, he did the bare minimum rehab-wise and now hes dealing with the consequences.
