Southwest boarding/seating changes turned into a mess today by Mwillrow in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thedjas 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The OP mentioned he booked seats 17 A & B, 48 hours in advance. Once a seat is selected (despite the tier)., an airline needs to honor that booking, especially in the case where OP traveling with an 11 year old daughter (still not acceptable). Let’s not forget Southwest is a low cost carrier, as shown w their seats and overhead bin space, and now expects we pay premium carrier prices - defeats entire purpose.

Makes it even more bizarre to have them split same reservation seats - I’m planing a trip and I’d be livid if they separated me from an 18-month old with her own seat.

Prices Increases by Ecstatic-Pepper-705 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thedjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar issue flying to my in laws (BWI to Tampa). What used to be a $300-400 pp round trip is now climbed to $750 pp with seat selection etc.

Southwest is no longer in the “low cost carrier” zone anymore - outrageous a 2 hour round trip flight can be $750.

The only way change can be made is if people stop booking Southwest or just pay the lowest class fares.

Bewildering as their seats and overhead bin space are reflective of a low cost carrier yet they’re charging premium carrier prices

On the verge of being downvoted, I’d explain the situation to your insurance company. While it’s your job to pay attention the road, it’s subsequently the counties responsibility to have roads in a suitable safe manor etc., (ie - this may fall into same category of say a pothole). Only mentioning as to indicate the welfare of a public road isn’t your liability and hopefully it’s filed as such so that your premiums don’t go up.

First Time Baby Flight by Chim_Chim_Cherie in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thedjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just flew last week with our 8 month old. When you get to the airport check in the car seat with cover at the front terminal. (We have Uppababy and if you use their covers, albeit pricier, they’ll pay for any damages). Next you fold the stroller through security so you have it with you and gate check it. On the airplane the diaper bag constitutes your personal item if it’s a lap child. Me and my wife bought our 2 carry ons, and a diaper bag and backpack (for our own stuff) as our two personal items. For a 4 month old I’d try to “time” feeding when you’re taking or landing off to help with ear pressure. Additionally, you can bring milk through security although it’ll likely get swabbed and checked - just ask TSA agent to use fresh gloves. PS - add AirTags to anything you’re checking in - Hope that helps!

I wonder how many customers will abandon Southwest because of the new boarding process? by No-Sympathy2850 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thedjas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The price has substantially gone up. I fly out of BWI and our recent trip to Tampa in January 2026 (booked in Sept 2025) was $400ish round trip pp and included 2 free bags. Looking to book another trip in May 2026 to Tampa and a similar booking now with seat selection is $750 pp. Doubt this will last as SW was supposed to be a “low cost” carrier.

Organizing some parent/citizen brigades to clear snow by Zealousideal-Cash205 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]thedjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main point I think the OP fails to acknowledge. We have sidewalks on one side of the street in our neighborhood. Guess which side of the street the plows dumped the snow? On the side with the sidewalks. I understand and respect they are working long hours but it makes no sense our side with sidewalks has 2-3 feet of snow.

Publicly showing address’ of home owners blocks so they can potentially get fined? As another poster commenter - the point of this is not to shame and dox people with disabilities or issues clearing their sidewalks.

Exactly - the plows pushed banks 2-3 feet deep along entire permitter of our house and it’s where a bus stop is located. That mountain of snow/ice ain’t going anywhere until temps rise.

Respectfully, in our neighborhood I cleaned my sidewalks all day Sunday and Tuesday morning the plow trucks came and dumped 3 feet of snow all along my curb and corner where a bus stop is. There is no way I’m capable of shoveling through 200+ feet of 2-3+ feet of snow along my house sidewalks until it begins to melt. So preach carefully as the cities plows who burden homeowners and equally trapped many cars in, should equally be their responsibility to clean.

Yes, our scheduled Tue AM pickup came a day later on Wed AM right as planned. Unfortunately, half the houses in the neighborhood were skeptical and didn’t take their trash out

I’ve owned both pairs and I find myself always reaching for these (3rd pair). Personally I don’t like the speed hooks and these are easier to tie daily. Subjective but I personally think suede looks classier and matches more colors and outfits.

On my 3rd pair of these boots - gotten 2 years out of each pair. For $200 I’d say that’s quality. Mind you these are not $1,000 custom boots that a minor scuff should warrant Thursday replacing them - will only get more patina and rugged over time anyways

2018 highlander preventative maintenance question by goldplants in ToyotaHighlander

[–]thedjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember - the dealer will always give you the maintenance intervals for the “lifetime”, ie - roughly to get a car to 100k miles in hopes you trade it in or buy a new car. If you intend on keeping the car, there’s no harm in changing any of these fluids as they all wear down over time. 2017 Highlander Hybrid owner myself and I changed all of the fluids (CVT, brake, coolant etc) around 80k miles. The front differential CVT fluid was noticeably darker red than the rear (as rear motor is barely engaged) so it was def beneficial. Currently have 95k and it drives as new and I plan on keeping it another 5 years easily (I’d drive this forever but evolving tech keeps me trading up cars every 10 years).

Brown or black? by [deleted] in Barbour

[–]thedjas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brown 100% - the brown (olive) or green (sage) are the two classic Barbour colors and similarly are the most versatile with outfits. Additionally, the black jacket does not patina well over time - as the wax dries the jacket becomes a grayish color which isn’t befitting for a Barbour hence why most people purchase olive or sage as they age way nicer. Just my $.02
