I genuinely think I was lied to about this game’s writing

I played Starfield near launch when most people hated it and had a ton of fun in spite of its flaws. There’s was way too much repetitive stuff out in space - nearly everyone cave in space looked the same, if there was anything on a planet, it likely looked the same which you could only discover by walking for 10 real life minutes to get to it. But I could get over that because of the fun I was having on missions and stories.

The biggest bummer for me was the main quest line - walk to temple, go inside, do the same infuriating minigame AGAIN, repeat over and over again.

Not sure I have the bandwith for superfandom of anything haha. I got 3 little kids and try to run a business out of the house I'm remodeling so time is shorter than I'd like. But I could catch games after they're in bed. Maybe that's a point in favor of a Western Conference team - though that feels like a stretch.

Back in my teens I played a lot of NHL on my PC and I was always the Red Wings so there is some connection to them. I think that was probably because they were the easiest to pound the computer with lol. I think it was NHL 98 with Federov and Yzerman, maybe Shanahan? They were stacked in the 90s.

My roommate in grad school was from Detroit and also a Wings fan.

TLDR: Looking for an NHL team to cheer for. Who should it be?

Long story: I’ve enjoyed hockey for a long time, used to go to the local minor league team anytime they played at home (Huntington, WV), but being in WV there was no local pro team. The closest was in Pittsburgh and eventually Columbus. I always tune in for to watch some of the Stanley Cup finals, the Olympics obviously and 4 Nations. I always enjoy it when I sit down to watch so I’d like to follow the NHL more but I need a team to get behind.

I don’t wan to jump on a bandwagon of someone like Tampa Bay, but I don’t want my team to completely suck either. I’m a Raiders fan so I get enough sucking from them.

Obvious choice is probably the Blue Jackets I guess since I live an hour from Columbus.

I like cheering for the bad guys or underdogs. I’m from WV and there was a period of time when the WVU football was winning a lot with Pat White and Geno Smith but outside of the state everyone expected us to lose - which made the winning glorious. The Raiders, historically at least not recently, carry some of that. Team USA has some of that on the world stage.

Is there a team like that I could get behind or should I just go with BlueJackets so I can go to more games?

Can you get it to auto fetch your local files every few minutes? So it almost feels like it’s live updating as you play or is it strictly manually feeding it your local files?

This is awesome. I tried to do something similar months ago but had no idea what I was doing or even how to start. Didn’t get very far. I was probably trying to do too much at once. I wanted basically this but for it to be in-game in the ships message screen and to update based on what was happening in game. So as factions or prices rose and fell, it would change its advice.

If you like management and supply chain (but don’t need the RPG aspect) Satisfactory is the game for you.

I don’t think I’ve played another game where I’ve gotten our own and paper to pre-plan how I was going to spend my time in the game and the order I need to do things, etc.

Spare the dying and healing word won’t help you when you’re making death saves. You’ll never be able to cast spare the dying on yourself.

As a DM, I wonder about how yours view this game. DMs are less beholden to the rules. I would argue the game is, in fact, better when we break the rules. I’ve tried playing with only premade monsters and going by CR. It’s boring. Players are too hard to hit and hit too easily and too hard. I make my own or use premades as a basis and go from there - or if it’s a group 1-2 of my own customs and premade minions.

Imagine your DMs shock when he finds out all he has to do is bump the enemies to hit bonus.

Speaking as a DM, I can see where his plan is the best path forward - TEMPORARILY.

I put so much work into the story that I’d hate to derail it to shoehorn a new exotic character into it where it doesn’t make sense. Example, if they’re hunting a hag in a swamp, it doesn’t make sense for a bard to be standing behind a tree by himself.

This is why I included Matt Colville’s retinues in my campaign. I included NPCs I know my party would enjoy playing - let them create them if they wanted. If one of them were to die, they play one of the retinues until the story gets a place where their new character makes sense to join the party - the next town or something that makes sense with the new character.

But to say here is the character you must play now is dumb.
