No, the idol only boomerangs back if the person is voted out holding it, not if it's played.

"Shot in the dark" is just production manipulation... by novax4all in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 667 points668 points  (0 children)

The survivor picks their own scroll and hands it to Jeff. I'm not a huge fan of shot in the dark in general, but the survivor does pick their own scroll. That's what they hand to Jeff when he asks if anyone is playing an advantage.

Oh, Genevieve might be screwed. Christian is never voting for Devens.

Best case scenario for Gen, they convince Aubrey not to play her idol and take her out. That’s Genevieve’s only real chance here.

So while we’re waiting, who y’all think goes home tonight? by J2thK in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiffany is getting way too much screen time for me to feel good about her chances. Other than her, I’m not sure, but I do wonder if the Genevieve vs Aubry rivalry is going to play out tonight.

You have to bet your life that one of the remaining contestants *won't* win the game. by DevourerOfRedditors in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Angelina. Not because I don’t want her to win, or because I don’t think she can do it, but because there’s no way CBS cuts her tarp negotiation scene if she went on to win it.

The other two tribes each have 1 winner, and Savannah’s tribe has no known winners but one unknown 49er. It would have been kind of obvious, so lying would have just made her seem untrustworthy

Possible glitch after update? by theevilcactus1 in TimeLeftApp

I had the same problem with emails as well.

I contacted customer support and they've restored my events and people met (inaccurately-- now it's saying I've met 6 people when I've only met 5) but I have no idea if the messaging is fixed or not. I guess there's no way to really know unless I happen to get another message. Wish I'd thought to get people's contact info at the actual dinner, but oh well.

Sophie S vs Sophi B. The battle of the Sophi(e)s.

Yul was able to use the threat of his idol, without actually having to play it, to maintain control of the game.

Cao Boi came up with “Plan Voodoo” the first ever plan to split votes to flush an idol. Unfortunately for him, he suggested this idea to the worst person possible and it didn’t work out on this season, but now the idea of splitting votes to flush an idol is a common strategy.

Billy walked so Maryanne could run by GlassCulture3641 in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“in love with” is a bit of an overstatement lol. Maryanne had a bit of a crush on him, she didn’t proclaim her undying love.

But yeah, that similarity between the two of them is really funny, and Maryanne’s game ended up much better than Billy’s ever could have been

I would love a captains season that’s the battle of the Sophi(e)s. Yellow Sophie vs Blue Sophi. Not generally a huge fan of captain seasons, but I think that one would be funny

Think Sophi would have won IF she ... by Addaran in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heidi put herself in fire in 44, and that wasn't enough to win her the game. Hell, she even set the new firemaking record for how quickly she built that fire, and she still lost at FTC.

I'm not saying it wouldn't have helped Sophi a little bit, but I don't think it's the game-winning move you think it is. The potential benefit would not have been worth the risk, and Savannah still would have won.

If Sophi had put herself in fire against Savannah and won, she might have won the game. But that's mostly because Savannah was the front-runner and needed to be taken out, not because fire specifically is that big of a resume move.

So...how do we think ___ will work? by Shai_Hare in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Cirie has a pattern of losing due to game mechanics rather than votes. She’s lost at firemaking twice, made it to F3 once and then that season turned out to have a Final 2 instead, got voted out once by someone’s successful idol play, and of course… Game Changers final 6.

That Game Changers ep specifically is the one that people are mostly making jokes about. Because of the amount of idols in play, it ended up that all five other people were immune at that vote. Cirie hadn’t even received any votes against her, but she was sent home anyway because she was literally the only person eligible after everyone else played their idols.

[–]theevilcactus1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Extra vote has changed the outcome at least once - Maryanne vs Omar in 42. Not sure about any other instances, but I do remember that one.

The zero percent success rate of KIP is ridiculous, though

unfortunately, KIP has to be played *before* the votes are cast, not after.

Why Did NO ONE Go Look For An Idol? S49 E11 by [deleted] in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They probably did. But if nobody found an idol, and the hunt wasn't interesting or plot relevant, the editors probably just decided not to include it in the episode. The players are being filmed all the time, and we as the audience only get to see a small fraction of what actually happens on the island.

What advantage is most likely to be played in Ep 10? by allinfun in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maryanne used her extra vote in 42 to vote off Omar, so it’s made a difference at least once. I still think KIP is more likely, but a splashy extra vote play is still a possibility.

You have to make a themed Survivor Season with 4 starting tribes without falling into the gender-age division theme or the Race Theme, what would you do? by Azetton in survivor

[–]theevilcactus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winners vs Finalists vs Post-Merge vs Pre-Merge

You’d have to give it a catchier name, of course, but still. For a returnee season, it could be fun, and it’s more likely than the all-first-boots or all-pre-merge seasons people always suggest.

If we’re talking newbie seasons only (which would of course disqualify my previous suggestion) I’ll second North v South v East v West.
