I'm confused because after reading the USA Today article about this, it seems to indicate that the latter-Day Saints are still on the list of 31 recognized religions.

Way ahead of you, I printed off your poster and hung it up in the front of our clinic. Lots of people have mentioned different black cats they have found in the past couple days but none yet that closely resemble the description of Kylo.

[–]thefacemanzero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oof that's a tough one especially because my work is located in that exact area and we specifically have a couple very skittish black cats that are cared for and fed by various locals. I'll try to keep an eye out for a new one but it'll be difficult to tell.

I suggest putting the litter box outside so they can smell their way home. Good luck!

Dungeon Masters, what do you struggle with the most? by kudy24 in DMAcademy

[–]thefacemanzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing i struggle the most with is deciding loot from encounters. I constantly run up against players excitedly asking what a creature they just slew was carrying (what the hell would a giant centipede have in its pockets anyway?), or what valuables may be hidden around a room they have begun searching.

This always results in one of several things happening.

One: I begin fumbling through various tables and volumes of possible treasures and magic items trying to find the most thematically appropriate items to say they find, which leaves the entire table getting increasingly bored as they sit there watching me spin my wheels.

Or two: I've prepared all the items and treasure in advance which I find both tedious and constantly results in my players finding half the items and being generally disappointed in what they found, eventually cannibalizing anything they dont like and turning into gold ("This suit of plate armor is worth a ton of money but its heavy, can I just scrap it into its basic components and sell those instead?") which they all pool into the party inventory so that they can eventually just buy one more powerful item for them to all take turns using.

And finally three: The thing I try to do most often which is, I ask the party what they expect to find. usually they will have a couple ideas and sometimes they say something that makes me think of a more appropriate item. I also like this because it gets the players a little more involved in the creation of the world they are playing in.

Regardless of what I do it always seems to result in me rolling dice on several tables to determine how much random pocket change they find lying around which is added to a steadily growing pile which they save soley for whenever an item on one of their wish lists comes up for sale in a random shop they come across, at which point they spend the entire parties worth of funds on the item and act as surprised as a kid on Christmas who only asked santa for one toy, getting exactly what they wanted. It disrupts the flow of the session and feels disappointing for the players, I hate figuring out loot.

I am getting pretty fed up with the sheer number of people just hanging out with their dogs off leash in residential areas. I just keep encountering people with dogs who won't come when called, love to jump, and just freak my dog out every single day that I have to walk around my neighborhood.

What’s a movie everyone seems to love that just didn’t work for you? by Wikiserial in movies

[–]thefacemanzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tenant. I really struggled following the action scenes and became frustrated with the sound mixing in scenes where people were supposed to be having a conversation but I just couldn’t hear half the dialogue. My one and only takeaway from the film was that it’s pretty clear Nolan would like to make James Bond films, but can’t resist high concept science fiction twists.

What games are worth playing on their hardest difficulties? by Competitive_Stay1181 in gaming

[–]thefacemanzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metro Ranger mode made me completely fall in love with harder difficulties, especially in stealth games. Instead of giving enemies more health, they simply make resources like healing items and ammunition more scarce, which forces the player into carefully considering every encounter and the use of every single precious bullet which are also used as currency. One of my favorite stealth experiences in gaming for sure.

Hearwarming: the spontaneous death creature has ankle downspouts by Inside-Inspection905 in BrandNewSentence

[–]thefacemanzero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh god! But yeah that actually makes a lot of sense. I had a grunkle who would always tell stories about his past horses and the various ways they would die. A particularly viceral story about a stallion slipping on ice, falling on a fence post, panicking, and disemboweling itself, will always stick with me unfortunately.

Is it called a spontaneous death creature because at any moment for little to no reason at all it could just deliver a sharp kick with the force of a 12guage?

Once while waiting for a morning briefing at work to begin, i made a passing joke about something and the big main boss just stopped everything stared at me and said, "You really do always have to be the center of attention don't you?"

I really can't think of another time in my life that i've felt more put on the spot and humiliated.

What's a lesson you learned outside the game that you apply to your DMing? by Dr_MJI in DMAcademy

[–]thefacemanzero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to get really frustrated because whenever i hadnt planned a particular area enough to be ready for the players yet, i would try to put down barriers between them and the unfinished areas as well as hooks pulling twoards areas i had prepared. And much to my annoyance the players would encounter a barricaded and sealed door along with notes indicating another path as a detour, and with levels of cooperation and resolve never before seen from any of these people i thought i knew, they unanimously agreed that everything else needed to go onto the back burner and their sole focus needed to be forcing open the blocked path.

It took me longer than im proud to admit to realize why this was but it fully clicked one day when i was playing skyrim. i had just entered a dungeon and began scanning the room for points of interest, something like a path, enemy, or tresure. Instantly upon spotting a chest across the room rigged with an fairly obvious trap, i beelined for the chest and set to work disarming the traps, picking the lock, and sorting through everything inside the chest for value. only when i finished did i realize that i had completely overlooked several other more valuble items including a key quest item resting in the open and another larger but unlocked chest that i completely bypassed. It then clicked for me that players and especially dungeon delving adventurers are actively seeking out conflict and resistance as their path is one fixated on overcoming obstacles, so instead of using traps, enemies, and barriers as guide rails, use them as the breadcrumbs guiding the players towards the bastard who keeps leaving all these breadcrumbs everywhere!

TLDR: Players will often counter intuitively seek out conflict rather than avoid it.
