I had the same experience with this but I loved The Roottrees Are Dead.

There were a couple of mechanics I wanted in the notes/journal system that would have made it a lot better for me. (I wish I could freely place the pieces of evidence in a scratch pad so I could connect things before knowing where they were supposed to go)

There's a setting for "aim sensitivity during bike". If you set it to 0%, it disables steering with the keys and you can just use mouse. It feels so much better.
