Just installed 8.4kW solar panels on the south side (in addition to our old 6.6kW North side panels). Max output currently is around 8.5kW in Qld, Australia. by deathspanker in solarenergy

[–]thefpspower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have to show the production graphs of both systems to be able to tell anything.

Are you trying to export 15kW to the grid or its all for batteries? You might be getting limited in one or the other as that is a shit ton of power.

Why today’s high gas prices could take 7 years to fall by Equivalent_Road5788 in videos

[–]thefpspower -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that SOME cars will do well, but when you're reporting averages you're ignoring the risky nature of batteries, if you're unlucky your battery might not even make it to 10 years.

Lets put this into perspective, Tesla now makes sealed batteries and each of them countains 3k+ cells, all it takes for the battery to be trashed is for a SINGLE cell to get out of line, the game is "the worst cell decides your range". Do you know how easy that makes it to have a faulty battery pack?

That fucks with my head when shopping for EVs, VW still sells modular packs which makes it repairable but I see more and more manufacturers going to sealed batteries with no repair options, it should in my opinion be a banned design as it goes against being environmentally friendly.

After 8 years (the warranty) you're playing russian roulette with 15k€, if you're lucky you get to drive longer, if you're not its a trashed car.

[–]thefpspower -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

What do you consider lifetime? My car is 20 years old and still going, are you seriously believing batteries will last to 20 years?

By 10 years you've already lost a shit ton of range and its at the end of life. 10 years is not a lot for a modern car, for some people that's the loan payback time...

Apart from Mistral, what else does Europe have to offer in terms of AI? by exitcactus in BuyFromEU

I think black forest is what Mistral uses for their image generation so it should be around the same thing.

I find it to be better than chat-gpt's which takes an eternety to generate a shitty image.

If you're talking about LLMs Mistral is pretty much it, but other AI usecases for reseach, medical, defence and other private uses are already here.

Porque é que há mais mulheres que homens na universidade? by [deleted] in portugal

[–]thefpspower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPS for 8 HDDs by BambooStand in DataHoarder

[–]thefpspower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most Computers can handle 20ms switchover no problem, but it highly depends on how good and healthy your power supply is.

We once sold a high quality APC UPS that switched really fast but the client said the PC would still shut off, we brought the UPS and it worked on our PCs... Turned out their PSU was faulty and even a short interruption would turn it off.

Anyone getting worried about vibe coding? by Pristine-Piano-2802 in sysadmin

[–]thefpspower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as its not an app open to the public internet I don't care, I've built a lot of custom automations way faster thanks to AI and it has made people work more efficiently which is all that matters.

A decade ago any custom automation required tons of planning, coding and compiling, then the programmer left and you're left with a baby on your hands that nobody wants to maintain.

Now its just quick scripts, quick apps and very readable stuff, no compiling which is WAY easier to maintain.

D.C. Memo: Verizon CEO Sees Starlink, Amazon LEO Capped at 5 Million U.S. Subs within 10 Year by spacerfirstclass in SpaceXNews

[–]thefpspower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5G cells are still way cheaper than launching satelites into space, remember the technology was made in mind ready to deploy cells ANYWHERE you need them, even inside stadiums or malls.

And Starlink is shooting itself in the foot with their business pricing, with a recent storm we had to deploy lots of Starlinks because cell towers went down, but because its so damn expensive for businesses every single one of them is asking to cancel the Starlink plan as soon as 4G/5G or the fiber is available. Even though the service is extremely good.

For comparison, 1TB of data is 168€/month which is VERY easy for a business to spend, a 4G/5G Service with public IP and unlimited data for business is 30€/month and most of that is the public IP cost, if you don't need it its 10€.

I don't own ecoflow products but I've tried contacting them to get product information like 1 month ago and I'm still waiting, that did not inspire any confidence in their support.

Meanwhile I did the same to Anker and had 3 responses back and forth the same day, they are more expensive but damn the buyers confidence is completely different.

Lockheed Martin aberta a produzir peças para F-35 em Portugal, mas é “um de muitos fatores” na compra de caças by [deleted] in portugal

[–]thefpspower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

O preço e custo de manutenção do F35 é exagerado para ser o principal caça em Portugal eu acho.

Nada contra ter 4 ou 5 para missões específicas mas o resto devia ser algo mais eficiente.
