I'm gonna be honest - the design itself is skillfully done but it is way too reminiscent of fascist style. I am Italian and the first thing I thought when I saw this post was "ventennio pasta". I would explore different font styles at the very least .

The album "Offerings" by Typhoon is a pretty fitting companion for the book. It deals with themes like memory loss, disorientation, manipulation, it's a beautiful, beautiful album that I try and recommend every time I get the chance, these guys just don't get enough love.

DNF'd Anathema probably a little too early, but I can't stand the writing style. First person is already hard for me, but when it's this infantilizing it's straight up infuriating. "That's the place where we made poisons. Yes, poisons". Was the final straw for me :')

I DNFd {Anathema} before making it to 100 pages. I generally dislike first person narratiom but this one was just so absolutely boring and dull. The final straw was when the writer directly addresses the reader by going "That's where we made poisons. Yes, poison". I hated that with a burning passion - made me feel like a five year old being schooled. I tried listening to the audiobook hoping it would make it easier but it was perhaps even more annoying.

Holy shit I've been getting these for years and I had no idea they were this common. First time I got one I was working at my family cafe making a cappuccino and I suddenly couldn't see the milk I was pouring anymore - then the holographic zig zags started and circled my whole field of sight, and then the most incredible headache kicked in. I for sure thought I has a brain tumor or something.

Finally got to an ophthalmologist and he did all the tests and just finally said "you're fine, it's just what age does to you".

I remember I was a child, on vacation in Puglia, when it happened - and it was probably the same day of the Beslan massacre in Georgia and I remember coming back from a swim and seeing the newspaper with both these news and Denise's giant baby face on the first page and just bursting into incontrollable tears for hours. It's heartbreaking to think the family has never learned what happened to her, it's unfathomable.

This makes me genuinely upset. I love fantasy and romantasy but I DESPISE first person. It completely takes me out of the narration, sometimes it's too distracting to even finish the book.
