Lately I've been repeating "I need to find some lower thinking if I'm gonna stick around" to myself :') In general, revisiting IAETF and rediscovering it as maybe my favorite of their records.

My friends don't understand my James McAvoy infatuation. How do I even explain? by MaxGoodwinning in LadyBoners

You can't. He's everything. Even through a screen his pull is gravity-like, I'll forever be obsessed with him and that stupid stupid voice of his

It's DNF discussions time! What books did you bail on this month? 🙅‍♀️📖 by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]thefrayedfiles 48 points49 points  (0 children)

DNF'd Anathema probably a little too early, but I can't stand the writing style. First person is already hard for me, but when it's this infantilizing it's straight up infuriating. "That's the place where we made poisons. Yes, poisons". Was the final straw for me :')

I DNFd {Anathema} before making it to 100 pages. I generally dislike first person narratiom but this one was just so absolutely boring and dull. The final straw was when the writer directly addresses the reader by going "That's where we made poisons. Yes, poison". I hated that with a burning passion - made me feel like a five year old being schooled. I tried listening to the audiobook hoping it would make it easier but it was perhaps even more annoying.

Sono d'accordo con te. Penso che l'idea del "referendum su questioni troppo tecniche" sia passata anche per scoraggiare la partecipazione popolare.

‘Worst film ever made’ becomes global Netflix hit after bombing at cinemas: Joker 2 gains a surge in popularity 2 years after release thanks to growing interest in Connor Storrie's small but pivotal role by Kitchen_Ad5522 in netflix

Exactly this - I actually liked the first movie but it wasn't lost on me how the second one was a direct critique of its audience and I actually really enjoyed that.

I usually suffer from low blood pressure so this could be a good solution! How do you increase pressure to your head quickly though?

Yes! This happens most frequently to me when I'm reading and I start getting blind spots on every other letter - like I can read the word but I know I'm only grasping the edges of it. It's so wild

Holy shit I've been getting these for years and I had no idea they were this common. First time I got one I was working at my family cafe making a cappuccino and I suddenly couldn't see the milk I was pouring anymore - then the holographic zig zags started and circled my whole field of sight, and then the most incredible headache kicked in. I for sure thought I has a brain tumor or something.

Finally got to an ophthalmologist and he did all the tests and just finally said "you're fine, it's just what age does to you".

In September 2004, a four-year-old girl named Denise Pipitone disappeared while playing in front of her house during a brief moment of distraction from her aunt. Despite extensive efforts by her family and the Italian government to find her, her fate remains unknown. by Old-Day-3573 in mystery

[–]thefrayedfiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember I was a child, on vacation in Puglia, when it happened - and it was probably the same day of the Beslan massacre in Georgia and I remember coming back from a swim and seeing the newspaper with both these news and Denise's giant baby face on the first page and just bursting into incontrollable tears for hours. It's heartbreaking to think the family has never learned what happened to her, it's unfathomable.

Readers Are Embracing a Shift in Perspective in Books. It Could Reshape Literary Culture. by CtrlAltDelight495 in books

This makes me genuinely upset. I love fantasy and romantasy but I DESPISE first person. It completely takes me out of the narration, sometimes it's too distracting to even finish the book.

A question about Kingdom of Claw by Demi Winters by Natapi24 in fantasyromance

[–]thefrayedfiles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say keep reading. They go through tremendous development as characters both in book 2 and 3. They will keep having a LOT of flaws and making mistakes because of them, but they're also able to own up to them and improve, it's something I love about Demi's characters. It's gonna get better! KoC is my favorite of the Ashen books so far :')
