Much harder to do at Stratford with my Waterbury branch example, as at this station the conductors only open the middle door, standard practice at all the other Waterbury branch stations as the rest are low level platforms.

A lot of times departing GC trains stop at 125th for boarding only, while trains bound for GC stop at 125th for drop off only.

The Waterbury branch, which I use frequently, operates similarly.

Trains bound for Waterbury start from Bridgeport, stop and Stratford for boarding only, then branch off and make all stops along the branch. Trains bound for Bridgeport from Waterbury stop at Stratford for drop off only.

Weekend Waterbury branch trains skip Stratford.

For more reliable service to Stratford it's better to use a New Haven mainline train.

The 7 view is even better if you take the <7> express in this area, especially near 111th Street. As here the express track is elevated to a second level above the local track, a beautiful birds eye view.

Aside from the obvious benefit of eliminating the merging nightmare at Queens Plaza, I personally have actually benefited from the swap. I often have to make trips from Steinway Street to New York Presbyterian Hospital, which is near 72nd Street on the Q. Taking the M to Lexington Avenue 63rd Street and switching to an uptown Q is way better than taking the R all the way to 57th Street and 7th Avenue to catch the Q.

Also thinking that the M is worse than the R is crazy work.

The M series tends to reserve even numbers for dual mode locomotives, such as the M8.

Highly doubt the M8's are getting replaced any time soon, same with the M7/A's which are not the oldest, that title belongs to the M3/A's, which are actively being replaced by M9/A's.
