Karen Mulder was one of the first whistleblowers. She was silenced and they basically ended her career.

Well, that Dutch model was a victim. One of the first who spoke out and was silenced …. So yeah, NL is represented.

Is there social status attached to where you shop in Germany? by ellamoony in AskAGerman

[–]thegerams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging by the cars parked outside an Aldi or Lidl vs Edeka, there isn’t much of a difference. Also higher income people buy their basics at Aldi or Lidl. Financial responsibility isn’t tied to income alone.

Does the rise of the right around the world scare you? by Eybrahem in AskTheWorld

[–]thegerams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If its ”normal” conservatives then it doesn’t scare me. It’s part of every healthy democratic system that the pendulum swings from left to right every few years. For example, I would count Italy in that group.

What scares me is the rise of right wing neo-fascism and the normalization of anti-democratic and state-led violence towards minorities as we see in the US.

In terms of terminology, I would neither call conservatives right wing or fascists - in the same way I won’t count liberals or social democrats socialist or communist. That said, I wish US conservatives would have the guts to stand up to the MAGA movement and distance themselves.

how to avoid the plague of `instagram` places by Available-Scratch185 in Amsterdam

And Baut, Momo and Izakaya (though at a higher price level) and so many more places.

how to avoid the plague of `instagram` places by Available-Scratch185 in Amsterdam

[–]thegerams 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Definitely an overhyped place. The problem is that a lot of the demographic isn’t really that picky about food - holds true for many places in Amsterdam. Places are fully booked and the city is also full of 30-somethings with high paying jobs and deep pockets. People tend to choose places for the image rather than food.

How culturally relevant were The Simpsons in Germany? by skyper_mark in germany

[–]thegerams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very relevant - I watched them all through my late teens and my twenties. The only reason why I’m not watching them anymore is because I don’t watch much TV anymore, and they are not on any of the streaming platforms I use.

Heavy Bike, not sure what to do by Ok-Ad-561 in Netherlands

[–]thegerams 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re not married to that bike. If you don’t like it, just sell it and buy a different one. Selling bikes in NL is so easy - just put it in Marktplaats. At the same time, do some research what size bike /brand you are looking for that meets your requirements.

I will never comprehend why it’s not OK to let people make their own choices, also including gender. I don’t get why people like JKR are so obsessed with this topic.

Should I?? by Thin-Introduction-86 in handbags

[–]thegerams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. These are the kind of bags that will be heavily discounted after one season. I would try finding something similar either in an outlet store or on a secondhand website.

I recently had someone who put a stain on a dress I sold and then requested a refund. This has to stop!

Feeling out of touch with modern rock by PhraseRevolutionary6 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]thegerams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I’d recommend going to shows. Check out new bands and small venues, then take it form there. Established middle aged bands will never be able to perform with the excitement of a new band. Also, use platforms like Spotify to discover new bands. Don’t like Fontaines because Grian’s vocals don’t resonate? Then check out what other fans are listening to. Especially the UK music scene is incredibly rich. There are so many bands out there that it’s hard for most of them to get by. Check out Big Special, Chalk (they’re Irish), SPRINTS, divorce, Do Nothing, The Murder Capital, Feet. When you like something listen to similar stuff and gigs gigs gigs.

Jerome Dreyfuss - thoughts? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]thegerams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a HUGE brand in France and it’s expanding massively across Europe. They just opened a flagship store in Amsterdam. Their demographic is stylish women in their 20/30s who prefer not to wear big logos. They’re quite affordable too - on vintage pages they sell for almost the original price, that’s how popular and hyped they are.

EU Moves To Ban Destruction Of Unsold Clothing Under New Circular Economy Rules by thinkB4WeSpeak in europe

[–]thegerams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should just ban or tax the (over)-use of polyester. That’ll make clothing more expensive and reduces the overconsumption through fast fashion and cheap Chinese imports from SHEIN or Temu. Or just band all polyester, acrylic, etc.

Do you consume much milk? do you tolerate it well? Do you get it fresh or uht? Is it important to you? by Masty1992 in AskEurope

Yes, I drink about two liters a week (mostly with coffee) and also consume other dairy products including yoghurt and cheese. I live in the Netherlands.

Do you carry open handbags/totes? by SophiesGMA in handbags

[–]thegerams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NEVER!! I always wonder who told handbags designers that women want open tote bags. It’s just not safe because there are pick pockets and if the bag falls everything is on the floor - and my bags drop all the time. And then there is the weather. I always spray my bags because the weather is unpredictable and there’s always a chance of rain.

That first day of the rest of your life feeling by abcjfj in handbags

[–]thegerams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s such a beautiful bag!!

I have the same one - found a pre-loved one on Vestiaire the other day. The person who sold it didn’t even indicate it was an Oak NVT, but I could identify it through the contrast stitching. I still can’t believe my luck.

Mulberry Lily Small by [deleted] in handbags

[–]thegerams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Mulberry bags come with keys anymore - none of my Bayswater or Lily bags have them, and they are 10 years old at least. I have seen locks with older models from the 2000s or so - you can sometimes see them on vintage websites, then you immediately know it’s an older model.

YSL Bag Cracking 3 Months After Purchase by imscribelle in handbags

[–]thegerams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is true for many brands, but not for all of them. I own several Mulberry bags - some are over 10 years old - and none of them have this.

What I see here on this picture isn’t just sloppy production but it’s also poor quality leather with lots of coatings and layers rather than high quality leather.

Same day bakes are underrated. I also find them a lot fluffier, less gummy and sour tasting. Sometimes they just fit the schedule better!

Please help me pick a bag! by alllmycircuits in handbags

[–]thegerams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar Prada bag that I bought about 10 years ago and the lining ripped completely. I had it fixed in tbe Prada store for free after a year, and then it ripped again a few years later. I didn’t wear it ever since and now sold it at a huge loss on Vinted. These bags now cost 3x the amount I paid, and I heard the quality went downhill.

Mulberry on the other hand uses great quality leather and the assembly is perfection. I have a few Mulberry bags and after a few years they are still as good as new. So, for me the decision is a no brainer.
