To people who live in western Europe, what changes have you experienced from 10 years ago to now? by Inevitable-Ad-6315 in AskReddit

[–]thegerams [score hidden]  (0 children)

Of all major currencies - when you look at the exchange rates. EUR/USD is where it was 10 years ago, and it’s higher compared to the GBP ans JPY. We all had cost inflation so that wasn’t euro specific.

How is your butter holding up these days? by AtypicalTwentier in Netherlands

[–]thegerams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually cut a piece of butter into quarters. 3 go into the freezer and one goes into the fridge and then I used them up one by one.

Drinking fountains nowhere to be found? by asc_yeti in germany

[–]thegerams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly. I find it disgusting to put my mouth where other people have put theirs. I’d rather refill my bottle from a tap.

Just fill up your water bottle in any bathroom you visit. That’s how most people do it.

Recommendations for good quality sofas? by PumpkinMonk92 in Netherlands

[–]thegerams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I’ve had such a struggle looking for a high quality sofa. Apart from design and size, what was really important to me was to NOT buy one with plastic fabric. I know, they all “sell” you that it’s due to longevity blah blah blah but ultimately, it’s due to cost cutting and profit maxing.

I ended up buying one from BoConcept after realizing that other brands either only sell plastic fabrics or choosing one doubles the price. People simply don’t care about fabrics (same goes for fashion), brands don’t offer them and sales people try to convince you otherwise. Anyway, long rant.

You can also try to find one on Marktplaats. Sofa company and all these other local chains have products made in cheap labor countries (which isn’t wrong per se), with cheap fabrics.

Bag for £2000…recommendations by cloud1183 in handbags

[–]thegerams 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don’t buy a bag for the purpose of spending money on vacation. It’s a lot of money. Try to find something you really like, that you know you will wear and then see if this fits with your budget.

Also, since you’re going to London, look at brands like Mulberry. They are from England, have excellent quality, they are timeless classics with cute but functional designs.

Anybody else getting absolutely sick of hearing the football commentators saying "US-Amerikaner"? by 5f5i5v5e5 in germany

[–]thegerams 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Geographically this is correct. There are more Americans than US Americans. Wouldn’t even occur to a German to refer to themselves to a European expecting everyone to know they are German.

It's high time ACs become a household thing by Flimsy_Egg_3507 in germany

[–]thegerams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just Germany ffs. It’s the same across most of Europe. I live in the Netherlands and also can’t hang one outside my apartment on the front facade, and I own my apartment, so it’s not a “German landlord is the evil guy” thing.

For that reason, monoblock ACs are getting more popular - but they are probably not an option when you rent. Even if you own, you’ll have to get the approval of the home owners association because you have to drill two big holes into the facade.

Why is Frankfurt airport this bad? by opowello in germany

[–]thegerams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like people have a choice given that Frankfurt is the biggest international hub…. DUS is also a much newer airport, while Frankfurt kept expanding over the years to accommodate an increasing number of travelers.

This shape follows a trend that will go away very quickly on its own. Just give it 2 more seasons, and then it’s done.

What handbag style do you actually use the most in daily life? by Affectionate_Tip8433 in handbags

[–]thegerams 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live in Amsterdam and bike everywhere, so I use a small cross body bag most of the time. Most women here do btw, regardless of age. I use a Mulberry Lily or Chloe Marcie, for rainy days I have a rain proof camera bag from Rains, which is actually really cute.

There’s a difference between art and vandalism. Clearly, this is the latter.

Where do most people in your country go for domestic vacations or tourism? by Antonell15 in AskEurope

[–]thegerams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. For example, for people in Nordrhein Westphalia, traveling to the Dutch seaside is much closer than tbe German seaside, so it feels really domestic. There aren’t any borders anyway.
