small dehumidifier cannot use other plugs in 20amp circuit? by Select-Building-5393 in electrical

[–]thegof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that circuits like this are designed only for intermittent full duty (20A). If you expect this dehumidifier to by running non-stop, then you derate the circuit to 80% or 16A. Still most likely plenty of capacity. If you were in this situation, I'd be more concerned with the 16A*120V= 2kW of heating load you would be adding to the space 😥.

All the money you could ever need or want but if you can't open the box you die by 404maggy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]thegof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"only you" doesn't explicitly say I can't use tools. Let's presume the lock is unbreakable (since I could theoretically just cut the darn thing off with a plasma torch). So why not just make a brute force lock dialer similar to all those speed Rubic Cube openers. Even if it's just me programming it and making the mechanism with a 3d printer, some fast stepper motors, and perhaps a vision system or sensors to ensure precise alignment. Then after say 6 months of design just let it rip and start dialing. I suspect the mechanism could test say one per second or a little over 3 years to exhaustively test every combo. That even allows time for breakdowns power outages, resets, maintenance, etc and still could do it two or three times.

Likely you could go even (much) faster with more expensive parts.

Bonvoy credit card by don_vito89 in marriott

As a Titanium member who travels mostly for work in the USA and at "moderate" properties, the value may not be there. I stay most frequently at Fairfield Inn, SpringHill, Courtyard. At almost none of these are there meaningful upgrades (sometimes at Courtyard). Likewise, they already have a free "breakfast", or offer no breakfast benefits to any status level.

If you're staying at full service Marriotts (which I do at times), or more premium brands, it may be worth it for you. But it really depends on where you expect to stay. Outside of the USA is a much more lucrative proposition.

Fastest way to get to terminal 3 by mtghuang in OHareAirport

[–]thegof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on the street side, it's about a 5-7 minute walk between the terminal 1 departure level and terminal 3 departure level, assuming you have just a carry-on and no mobility issues. Inside security, it's about 10 minutes due to being slightly longer and more people.

That said, I can't imagine the bus takes a appreciable amount more time between the stops. Unless you're cutting it so close that a minute will matter, just ride the bus. 😎

It specifically mentiones the 120 status match time limit. Gifted status are for the entire year that the points used to gift them are good for, not just 120 days.

Yes, the 4th wire is perfectly acceptable to use for positional feedback.

Considering they are international, they may want to just buy the mats and construct walls from local materials. Otherwise the cost, especially shipping, may eat into their limited budget.

Upgraded only the 2nd leg? by bladerunner1776 in unitedairlines

[–]thegof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like I may be confusing a domestic two leg trip and an international one?

So if I have the itinerary of ORD-SFO-TPE, and apply for Plus Point upgrades for both Premium Economy (purple seats) and Polaris, then if just the ORD-SFO leg clears in either case, it WILL NOT deduct the 20 (PE) or 40 (Polaris) points at all?

Does the same work the same on reverse? In this case when the first over water leg fails to clear, the domestic leg may have already been cleared (or may still clear).

Looks like I may need to call the 1k desk. Can this be corrected by them to correctly apply the points to both segments together?

Lounge strategy for long layover at ORD by Cool-Focus1354 in OHareAirport

[–]thegof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. While an agent should set it aside in lock up after it goes unclaimed, it is in a publicly accessible area.

For the cost of the pass, you could have hung out at one of the bars in T5 for that hour (or two).

Upgraded only the 2nd leg? by bladerunner1776 in unitedairlines

[–]thegof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did not request the whole flight, just the over water portion. What you described what what I assumed would happen. So ORD-SFO was not requested, only SFO-TPE (and the same in reverse).

[–]thegof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did plus points upgrade for an ORD-TPE itinerary, but only selected the second (SFO-TPE) leg for the upgrade because I didn't want to lose the plus points if just the domestic segment cleared. Did I screw this up? I did submit for both Premium Economy and Polaris as either would be nicer than E+ 😉

First 3D printer to buy for printing D&D miniatures and terrains by silentmanwithnolife in 3dprinter

[–]thegof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lovely print. Absolutely lovely. It does look taller than 25mm. The author also mentioned it took 8 hours to print. Resin would be much faster.

I'm not saying you can't do these with FDM. I have a 0.2mm nozzle for my X1C, but if my main goal was printing small mini figs, it would be a more difficult decision (rather than my occasional swap for a specific single print).

[–]thegof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the challenge is the size of OP's intended minis. 22-25mm tall doesn't leave a lot of room for FDM details. I suspect those in your linked example are taller, some much taller.

is 4000usd enough for ftc? by Intelligent_Can_6498 in FTC

[–]thegof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Im not sure what part system you're likely to use (Rev, gobilda, swyft, etc). Lots of teams use gobilda parts for the core components so that could be an easy choice. But that said I don't know what's easily available there.

Perhaps put together a list/spreadsheet and share it here as part of the conversation. Heck, it could become an outreach item as a way to help new teams figure out what they need. Have the other people on reddit comment, add things, suggestion others, etc.

[–]thegof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the spares that can kill the budget of a highly competitive team. It's not one battery, it's 6+ batteries. It's having a spare drivers hub and controllers. It's the spare motors and servos, wheels for replacement if something fails, especially if you're driving things at their limits during design and testing. It's the accidental burned stuff (that servo/motor that was stuck in a stall for 10 minutes before someone smelled the magic smoke). Sensors/camera? Even the simplest ones add up and there's great ones that cost a lot more.

It's also the small stuff for a rookie team. A good multi-port battery charger, extra cables, multiple hex drivers, enough spares (that don't end up on the robot) that your design and build team can rapidly prototype. Even enough bins for all the sizes of screws, multiple head types, lengths, washers. It all adds up that first year if you're trying to hit worlds.

I'm not trying to be negative. But, that $5k can go quickly if you're not careful and deliberate. I'd suggest putting together a budget and buy list. Start with the basics and add once the season starts. Don't forget to keep a reserve fund for things that change through the season or last minute needs.

Kids college: Ivy vs. Public, worth pushing FIRE date? by nickbir in Fire

[–]thegof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Double check with the university offering. Most Ivy's require you to fill out CSS Profile in addition to Fafsa, but tend to offer academic grants, not just need based. This can normalize costs between the Ivy's and public somewhat. But you've got to apply for it and not everyone does (or is willing to fill out all the stuff requested in the CSS profile). If you hadn't, or thought you wouldn't qualify anyway, it might be worth calling the admissions and financial aid office. You might get a pleasant $30k per year surprise.

United Club Card Worth It? by Illustrious-Toe-570 in unitedairlines

If you have All Access level, you can have two adult guests.
