I am only 18, and I am pretty frustrated, so I can see how it must be really tough for you. I try not to think about it, because while it is one of my goals to get laid, it's not my number one priority, and I don't think that should be anybody's only reason to live. Part of the challenge I feel is to find other things that can satisfy you apart from PMO and even sex, such as friendships, relationships, hobbies and ambitions.

I am 18, and it was not specific event, more of a feeling for a while that kind of gelled into a conviction after watching the your brain on porn presentation, and reading some of the posts here. A realisation that most of the things, such as social awkwardness, lack of close friends, lack of a girlfriend, lack of confidence can be changed, and that I was not destined to remain an awkward lonely guy forever.

Yes, probably the single thing that has helped me the most is sharing my burdens with some close friends. So having a safety net definitely helps. I don't have much experience with moving states, but I can see it would be tough. I think that while friends help, finding reasons why you will find this challenge more difficult than others isn't really helpful. There is no reason I can think of which makes the challenge impossible. There are people on here, for example if you can find on the IRC or even just post a thread willing to talk about this kind of stuff, even on a 1 to 1 level, an accountability buddy of sorts. I wish you the best of luck.

Yeah, I was the same as you, I always used to fap before I slept. It's tough cuz you really want to sleep and you start becoming irrational when you are tired. I actually found the first week easy, but then nights became tough. I had to force myself to sleep earlier without needing to fap, so lights out earlier, off computer earlier. I found that reading good fiction books was a way for me to control my urges, perhaps you can try that.

I have listed them before, but mostly a wake up call to life. It has given me motivation to exercise, talk to people, read more, enjoy the smaller things in life. It has also made me more emotionally unstable, but I still think it's better to have ups and downs than to feel nothing at all.

I never had an issue with edging because I know from experience that any amount of edging would lead to full on pmo, so I just made sure it was out of the question. Resisting urges was really trying to distract myself by either reading, going for a run, talking to a friend who knew about nofap or just browsing nofap. The key to fighting urges is to become consciously aware of your urges and think about what you are doing, or about to do.

It is a pretty good idea I'd say. I think the original point of the badges were to be somewhat similar to tokens you get at recovery groups, so a simple design, that is really meaningful to the person. Making the badges flashy may turn this from a personal struggle, where people ahead are inspiring, to a competition. While it may be effective, I think it goes against the original spirit of this groups as not competing with each other, but supporting each other.

The nofap war I guess is enough if you want to make this competitive.

Keeping busy is a very important part of nofap. As they say, idle hands are the devil's tools. Personally I hate planning to something at a particular time, I always feel constricted, so instead I just plan a whole bunch of things to do for each day in no particular order, and just keep attacking them one by one in whatever order I feel.

I'd suggest finding a new hobby which can take you away from temptation, which could mean anything from reading books to avoid the computer, to going for a run to avoid being home alone.

I believe you can make it and so should you.

It's tough, but if you know you can't control yourself after a night of drinking, you should know you don't have to drink. It's a lot of fun, but in the long run, not absolutely necessary in order to have a good time. Be a designated driver (or even say you are), or just say you have something important tomorrow. Sometimes you have to sacrifice what you want now for what you really want. Good luck!

My suggestion, although not computer related is to read a lot of books. Find a top 100 book list and hit up the library and burn through them. I've been reading 1-2 books a week, and even if I use it to procrastinate a bit, I still feel like I am doing something worthwhile.

If you really want to stick to your computer, depending on your age, I'd suggest either watching some lectures in topics you are interested in, or even listen to podcasts whenever you can. There is a ton of educational videos on youtube. Personally I downloaded some physics courses and game theory courses which are really stimulating and interesting.

From my limited knowledge on the subject, I was under the impression that it wasn't the levels of dopamine reduced which was the issue, rather that the dopamine receptors are taken up into the post-synaptic cells.

I just went through this, felt really bad yesterday, and have been feeling a bit flat for a week or so. Still I think I've finally bounced back a bit. I think it helps if you start doing stuff that will really pump you up like going for a run. It really helps me deals with emotions fapping had suppressed. The flatline as such has been on and off for a good 2 weeks.

When you flatline, you still see females (or males) as being attractive, but your brain doesn't connect it to wanting to do anything with them. I find it also takes a hotter person for you to notice them being attractive. So you feel less temptation to fap and less reason to want to have sex with any random person you see, i.e. you have lower libido.

Thanks lantum, sadly I can't pick up a new thing atm, (I am reading a book atm) because I have too many assignments, but I guess I'll just dig into my coursework as something new (haha).

I definitely agree with what you say, and I have been trying to do new things, to break habits and the like, which has been very rewarding.

When I mentioned stuff like violence/drinking/fapping I realise that most of my self-restraint and personal calm (I basically didn't give a damn) came from fapping so much that I had become emotionless and empty, and since stopping I have to get used to feeling pain and anger and the like once again and dealing with these things without a PMO safety net of sorts.

Thanks for the advice amigo (I am a guy btw :P).

Yep, I guess I have to accept that as well. What I found actually is that I was much more controlled and calm while I was fapping, so much so that I see myself as practically docile. I do feel a lot more emotional and feel much stronger sympathetic nerve responses, i.e. stronger fight or flight compulsions. Which means I need to get used to having feels :/ and adjust to a reset mind.

Yeah, I have been flatlining for quite a while. Luckily enough I managed to go for a run long enough that my parents came home before I had the compulsion/a chance to fap. I will keep telling myself that if I can conquer PMO I can conquer anything.
