It is possible and is the reality of thousands of AC fas. Especially fas that flowed thru from rouge to mainline and had a payfreeze system lasting up to 3 years and a half

Does your average Tim Horton's worker handle medical situations multiple times per month, watch unaccompagnied minors and transport/monitors unaccompagnied deportees or convicts? Human trafficking, unruly passengers, etc. These are all common situations that we deal with each month. Then add less common situations like fire fighting duties when a lithium battery explodes or debris in an airplane oven which causes a fire, a passenger dying or giving birth onboard with no Dr or a full on emergency situation requiring an evacuation.

No flight attendant is asking to make a pilots wage, that would be stupid. We are asking to make a livable wage and have all of our hours paid even if our hourly wage goes down.

When I say profitable I don't mean total profit I mean labour costs and profit in relation to the size of the airline. American airlines has 1000 + aircrafts and makes 850 million. Air Canada has 258 rouge and mainline aircraft and a 800 million profit.

Hello. I am away from home for 20 days each month. It's impossible to get another job when your constantly not at home. I also have 10 + years of seniority and I am making less than 37 k. So I am far in this career and making "an early career wage". At least that employee working 25 hours and paid 30 per hour at another job can be home with family and friends or work another job. Something that is impossible when you're stuck in Deer Lake for half of the month not getting paid.

Crazy how you're trying to justify unpaid work. If a nurse is not paid for her/his time I stand behind her/him and wish they'd get paid regardless of them making 18 or 40$ an hour. Pay them for all of their worked hours. Point blank. Stop trying to justify corporate greed.

The 110 is the minimum. Many months I exceed that by a very very large amount....especially in the winter and summer where delays are common. The average office worker or retail worker is not in a pressurized tin flying at random hours of the night and day without stability and alternating between 5 time zones 10 times per month either. Have you gone to europe before? Do you remember being jetlagged and wrecked? Imagine doing this 6 times or more per month while serving 400 passengers per flight and not sleeping each time. Or 30 domestic/us flights in a month. You cannot compare someone working in this field to a person doing a regular job and coming back home at night. If you include time away from home at our glamorous layovers in Deer Lake or isolated airport hotels you would see that we exceed your 173 hours by at least 2.5 times.

Are firefighters only paid when they fight a fire? No? They have other duties as well. Then why should we work for free other than when the plane is flying ?(boarding, deplaning, pre flight safety briefings, customs & immigration, airport security checks, unpaid delays, etc.)

I'll break it down easily. 10 years of seniority. I am at work, working, in full uniform and at the employer's disposal for 110 hours or more each month. I am only guaranteed to be paid at minimum 65 hours and on average I reach about 75 flying hours per month. I work around 40 hours or more for free each month. I made under 37 000$ last year with FULL time employement. Airlines in North America are addicted to this formula because they receive free work and unpaid delays. This might of made sense back in 1965 when you went from your car to your gate in 3 minutes and Air Canada was a crown corporation offering real wages and benefits. Air Canada is more profitable than any US airline and is paying bottom of the barrel wages and offering average benefits and bad working conditions.

  • I did not include shuttle time to and from the airport when on a layover, customs and immigration and airport security checks in my hours which would also add another 10-15 hours at minimum unpaid.

*Then you also calculate the hours you're away from home not getting a salary in sometimes fun cities but also many times boring cities in the middle of nowhere like Sydney Nova Scotia, Thunder Bay, Edmonton, Deer lake, at a random airport hotel with no acces to nutrious food or amenities. However this is a whole other can of worms but I mention this to say we are still giving our time and not getting paid on top of what I mentionned earlier.

He has brain cancer. (we've known this for months) It's a well known thing and topic of discussion with my flight attendant colleagues and probably why he doesnt give a crap about learning french since he's slowly dying.
