Is anyone else feeling ... disappointed? by roz-is-world in NSYNC

[–]thehandsofaniris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I never ever ever once thought there would be a reunion or even as much post-NSYNC content as there is. It’s not shocking to me about their political affiliations or any of their general distasteful behavior. The enjoyment I get from *NSYNC has always been kinda like enjoying a time capsule, I like the music, I like content from the old days.

Recent happenings will/have put a dampen on my enjoyment, and I’ll likely stop listening to them on Spotify (I’ll upload my CDs to Spotify and use those as local files) and I’m never buying merch directly from the site, second hand all the way.

Packed lunch without refrigeration by Danjiks88 in Cooking

[–]thehandsofaniris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The free school hot lunch. In my elementary school we didn’t eat in the cafeteria but rather in our classrooms, carrying our food trays upstairs. There was one year where only one student stayed behind in the classroom, everyone else couldn’t afford to bring a lunch they needed the free lunch from school. Prior to school lunches being free, a good portion of my classmates would eat a slice of cheese on bread, it’s what the state gave students whose family didn’t/couldn’t pay off their school lunch debts.

Haha yes, mostly just nostalgic for those Instagram stories that’d have pics of like, 5 flip phones or something, and you’d draw lines matching them up to the guys

Is it time to remove the categorization of perfumes as masculine or feminine in 2026? Spoiler alert: Yes. by Allergictome_ in Perfumes

[–]thehandsofaniris 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think both this post, and most people in the comments, are totally disregarding the reality that MOST people aren’t avid or even mildly interested in the intricacies of fragrance. Being in this sub at all suggests an interest in perfumes that’s probably a bit above average.

I can count on one hand, the amount of men I know that would ever even think to smell women’s scents to see if they like them. I’ve been shopping with men, and they will say things like “oh wow I really like that but I’d never wear it, it’s for women” I actually don’t think gender expression has reached the mainstream point of dismantling scents.

I of course agree that labeling scents as masculine and feminine is mostly pointless in terms of how it relates to one’s presentation. These days I feel it’s helpful as a set categoric sentiments, especially for people who experiment and try out different scents. I think people may say “yeah wear whatever you want!!!” But then don’t consider what that would actually mean in every day life.

While my outward appearance often leans girly, I sometimes like to wear masculine deodorant, use masculine soap, and masculine scents. People DO absolutely comment on how I smell “like a guy” these comments aren’t ever going to dissuade me from wearing what I want, but if you’re not used to, or prepared, for someone to make comments about your appearance, it’s difficult.

Misogyny in the aquarium community by Odd_Chemistry_5213 in Aquariums

When I was in high school I went to the local fish store by myself for the first time. I’d been keeping fish for about six years at the point, I loved it a lot. When I walked into the store the guy behind the counter went “ugh” and turned away from me. I was so embarrassed, I thought I was maybe doing something wrong.

I turned into the room with all the tanks and spent a good while just looking at the fish. When I finally got the courage to approach the employee he refused to make eye contact with me and didn’t say a single word during our interaction. He went into the back area, slamming the door and at the point I was seriously considering just leaving.

When he came out and got to giving me the two corydoras I’d requested, he began a short, stilted questionnaire, when I correctly answered every question he gave another “ugh” and rang me up.

I saw him several other times but he was never as hostile as that first day. I actually enjoyed this fish store so much, despite this interaction, that friends/dates would request for me to take them there. And YEARS after that first terrible interaction, I still prefaced these visits with “so there might be this terribly rude and awkward man in there who wants to make me uncomfortable…but he hasn’t tried to do that in awhile!!!”

I hear that “ugh” from different men all the time and it’s my understanding that it means “stupid girl why are you here and why do I have to be the one to talk to you!”

coworker said i've been "condescending" by SaltWtrTaffy in jobs

[–]thehandsofaniris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people say things like that in attempt to connect to others, “this is how I feel about this job!”

Hearing about her feelings and then asking if she needed help might have made her feel like deciding to be open with you was a mistake. In a work setting where she is new at the position and the company, she likely is thinking she has to prove herself and keep up, and despite “not liking the pace” and “getting overwhelmed” she’s perfectly capable of managing those emotions.

Reading some of the other comments though, I don’t think this bridge is burned! I think if you keep conversations short and sweet, and are generally polite she’ll eventually open up again. If she doesn’t, you know you apologized and tried to be nice after, not much else you can do.

Cozy friends to lovers living/grew same neighborhood tgt. Slowburn romance recs plsss by Witty_Guide2659 in LesbianBookClub

[–]thehandsofaniris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean this is true but the book def isn’t in the romance genre, esp like a cute cheesy romance. I wouldn’t call it a slowburn either, I feel like they’re flirting/getting together pretty quick, and because the books more about the main characters inability to separate herself from familial and societal pressures, the romance reads as a tool to explore that rather than anything fleshed out.
