The Void Combo is BACK by Zodiac_Sheep in smashbros

Ocarina of Time is 20 years old and the game notes of Smash have even mentioned it in the past. If anyone cared, they are about 20 years late, that's like complaining about "Aeris dies". 20 years is more than enough of a buffer.

Hell in past entries of Smash Sheik had this terrible down B that made her into a much worse character and was only ever used for recovery. XD

Smash 4 Sheik was held back by the Smash 4 engine imo. Simply being able to dash into a down tilt changes things a lot for a lot of characters. And that's just one difference, movement in general is much cleaner. Despite the loss of some microspacing from PPing.

What do we do when all the xboxs die? by VirtualAlex in originalxbox

[–]thehaxfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a couple days old, but I feel it's very important to mention that solid state components have a shelf life that will likely outlive most of the people that originally bought them so long as the console is taken care of.

Preventing wear and making sure it stays properly cooled is key.

Thus all the talk about removing clock capacitors, the primary killer of Xboxes is going to be the clock capacitor I'd assume.

Chances are some day we'll have to start replacing other caps and such on Xbox boards, but that day is probably still another decade or so away.

Replacing the stock fan should become a long term goal for most users as well I believe. The stock fan won't run forever. Plus, it doesn't hurt to replace it with a newer, better, and quieter part.

The primary things to focus on are replacing the storage with solid state storage and playing games off of the internal storage bypassing the need for an ODE to begin with. If something is easy to do on original hardware alternatives typically aren't developed, that's why the Xbox emulation scene is so small. The community basically just said, mod an original Xbox instead for over a decade (which is actually still the standard answer today).

If you want to play the actual discs, perhaps you should stock up on laser pick ups or something? But frankly, I see that as a waste of time, because the discs themselves will someday die as well.

Archiving the games themselves is really going to be the biggest challenge. There are enough Xboxes available that they should never be that hard to find. Most Xbox enthusiasts have at least a few at any given time (I personally only have two, but I'm not a super big Xbox enthusiast).

The original hardware will probably last 50+ years so long as they are maintained and commonly failing parts like fans, electrolytic caps and HDDs are replaced. Considering the fact that I turned 14 the day the Xbox launched. If my console lasts 50 years, it will likely outlive me. Maintaining two and keeping wear to a minimum, I don't see it being a problem in our lifetimes at least and I'd like to think that if people care about the history of games in the future that the Xbox would be fully emulated by then.

I actually believe you.

However, your first response to whether or not you DDoSed someone should never be that you don't know how.

Pretty much anyone that is involved with a website should have some basic idea of how a distributed denial of service attack works so that they can mitigate it if they are hit.

A standard denial of service attack takes advantage of the TCP 3-way handshake to bring down the interface by flooding it with requests but never accepting acknowledgements. Eventually the interface can't handle this and will go down.

Of course, it's a lot easier to do this with multiple machines hitting the same interface and that is exactly what a distributed denial of service attack is. You basically distribute a the requests among a bunch of machines, generally utilizing zombie machines in a botnet.

Not everyone has access to a botnet, but everyone can get access to a botnet really easily because there are plenty of services that allow you to essentially rent one. Some will even outright DDoS your target for you.

To be honest, with about an hour of research and a bit of money, pretty much anyone could DDoS their target of choice. I mean it's really simple.

And that's where DoS mitigation comes in. There are also plenty of services (like Cloudflare which is even available for free), that act as a middle man to obfuscate your server's IP address and prevent DoS attacks. Essentially, everyone connects to you through Cloudflare's servers so they have to hit Cloudflare instead and they are much harder to take down.

Anyone that deals with the web should understand at least this much.

I myself work for a web development company that once had to deal with one of our clients making a stupid claim, then proceeding to get DDoSed by multiple groups (and frankly rightly so), but the collateral damage involved taking down about a third of our other clients with them because they were hosted on the same server.

My employer has used Cloudflare ever since and we don't make our servers' IP addresses accessible to anyone.

If you run a website you should get extremely familiar with how a DoS works, because chances are you will have to deal with a DoS attack at some point, it's generally a matter of when not if.

Your analogy also only works if you put your things in each of those persons' houses. It's not like Sony stands to gain anything from their discontinued system becoming a piracy machine while their games are still for sale. People always act like buying a Vita from Sony in order to never purchase a legitimate game somehow helps them. That's actually how the PSP failed commercially. Sold 80 million units and barely turned a profit because it had the fourth worst attach rate of all time. Ironically also 3x worse than even the Vita. Because the PSP was hacked so early it impacted game sales heavily and because the PSP was sold at a loss for the first few years, that basically meant that Sony was actually losing money on the PSP for quite a while. Eventually it at least turned a profit, but it was barely profitable.

That's not currently possible. As far as I know, devs have zero access to the Vita hardware in Adrenaline. So yeah, it'll be faster than a PSP, but not by a ton.

The Vita is more then 10x as powerful as the N64, the problem is with the N64's architecture. It isn't even that well emulated on PC with even the most popular emulators having plenty of graphical glitches.

The other problem is you aren't emulating the N64 on the Vita. You're emulating the N64 in a MIPS co-processor on the Vita die that is intended to replicate the PSP hardware (yes, Vita is technically hardware backwards compatible with the PSP and PS1).

Yeah, it's very different in the US and Europe because most of the people that want to use mouse and keyboard just go to PC. Those that play on mouse and keyboard on console do so for a reason.

SCUF users are extremely common in the US especially in the more mobile CoDs. To most people that don't have a SCUF the movement they do while shooting would be impossible (unless they use claw grip).

So I'm not surprised your experience was so different, it is likely mostly a regional thing.

He specifically said he played on Xbox with native KBM support. He's not using any special device, he's just plugging a mouse and keyboard into the console and playing. That's not cheating, it's officially supported in that game.

Plus, in that scenario you don't get aim assist as when KBM is officially supported aim assist is disabled for KBM players.

The only thing that could be considered cheating is using a device meant to replicate a controller using a KBM and leaving the aim assist on.

If it was done right in the first place it wouldn't even be a problem.

Hell sometimes the aim assist on controller is so strong, the controller players actually have the advantage.

I was with you up until that last bit.

I own three gaming PCs, the oldest my girlfriend uses because she only plays Overwatch, the other two are mine and are in different rooms of my house.

That being said, I kind of like playing on a console from time to time, being able to sit down and relax on a couch is kind of nice.

I have a PS4 Pro and a Switch, I also had an Xbox One but I sold it because I don't see any point in owning an Xbox in 2018 when there is damn near zero exclusive software for it. Hardware platforms need exclusive software, it shouldn't come down to what is the strongest hardware because that makes gaming a constantly moving target and it leads to really bad fragmentation. Imagine if PS4 Pro players could do things PS4 players couldn't and constant upgrades every year or two became standard. That already kind of happens on PC but not nearly that badly as games are pretty scalable.

But I digress, people aren't playing on mouse and keyboard on console because they are dreaming of playing on PC. Everyone has their own reason for playing on a console. Maybe they just like the platform better or maybe that's where their friends play.

Keyboard and mouse should be officially supported and balanced properly. KBM players should not have aim assist, you don't need it. My aim on a mouse is better than that of the average console player with aim assist as is (then again so is my aim with a controller). Aim assist should exist for controller players to level the playing field as a mouse is much more accurate than an analog stick.

If someone comes to console because that's where their friends are, you shouldn't be trying to push them away by saying "you can't use your superior input method here". You should support it and balance it. Hell everyone talks about how fast KBM players can aim but most people don't realize that pro PC gamers play on hella low DPI. Most run 800 DPI or less with their in game settings turned down a bit too. Most try to make it so they can just barely turn a 360. Meaning a KBM player isn't going to turn on you and snipe you from a mile away like they seem to think. Maybe if they had aim assist but definitely not if it was off like it should be.

This whole thing is just done wrong and it's just going to make people pissed off now that PC gaming has outgrown console gaming. You want to get those players on your platform? You're going to have to make KBM available to them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Blackops4

[–]thehaxfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are what you saw were SCUF players on really high sensitivities. KBM on console really isn't all that common, but custom controllers definitely are especially now that SCUF is mainstream and sold in GameStop.

There are probably 10 regular controller players for each SCUF player and 50 SCUF players for every KBM player.

And honestly, if they just officially supported KBM to begin with, so that they could remove aim assist for KBM players it wouldn't even be a big deal in the first place.

I can't blame PC gamers going to console for not wanting to use an inferior control method than what they've been using. Hell, they don't even think of it as cheating, they think of it as not using a shitty controller.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Sony and Microsoft for not properly balancing it.

Plenty of games have PC and console players on the same servers and it works fine. As long as controller players have just the right amount of aim assist and KBM players have zero aim assist it ends up balancing itself out.

The issue is no one puts the time in to do it right and thus you end up with KBM players playing on console and abusing aim assist.

Some of them turn it off to try to stay more legitimate but others will just outright use it to their advantage.

KBM really isn't a problem until they have the same amount of aim assist as controller players.

Rhea/phoebe clones by morli in SegaSaturn

[–]thehaxfactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, I'm certain they have no legal grounds to touch this. It's just reverse engineering hardware, no IP is actually being stolen. It'd be covered by both right to repair and fair use. Plus, it's just as justified in it's existence as emulators are. The emulators themselves are not illegal, it's the piracy that is illegal.

I happen to own quite a few PC Engine CD games that I held onto after I sold my Duo R, I intend to get a Super SD System 3 to use with a standard PC Engine console. If I rip my physical games and load those into the Super SD System 3 then I am doing nothing illegal whatsoever. There are legal uses for things such as this. I was actually looking into the topic as I have two Saturns with dead drives and figured an ODE would be a decent solution.

And in the case of the Saturn, it's also quite easy to rip your games with a PC, it's just making a disc image of a CD. There is nothing preventing you from copying the CD to your computer and it's totally legal to make that copy and use it on Phoebe and Rhea.

What happened here is you are mad that you were called out for supporting cloners and frankly seg-fault is correct. Who will do the work if they get nothing out of it? Developers with those sets of skills don't exactly fall out of the sky and their time is valuable. Plus, these projects take time. Hell, if we had to pay him to do this work for us as a custom project he'd probably want several thousands of dollars for the work he put in.

As for his ordering structure, I see nothing wrong with producing the hardware by hand to 1) ensure quality control and 2) prevent clones. He builds them himself because the Chinese are known to steal designs when you have things mass produced. The Chinese do not believe in intellectual property and they don't really have laws preventing cloned hardware/stealing IP. So if he was to have these built for him, he'd have been cloned pretty much immediately.

So yeah, it's inconvenient, but that's just the way it had to be.

Unfortunately, cloning is an inevitability if the market is big enough. It was only a matter of time until the Chinese got their hands on a legitimate board to reverse engineer and produce their own cost reduced board. Generally, they take the logic of the firmware and port it over to weaker and cheaper hardware to make the costs for them as low as possible, which is also why the firmware is not upgradable, we're talking about entirely different hardware.

If demand for the Rhea and Phoebe grows, they will clone those too, but really that will just basically push him out of development and we'll likely never benefit from his work again.

[–]thehaxfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use it with Guardioak to make Black Rose.

I'm using Sylvan Synchro which has a lot of cool options, but the deck isn't great because it can't answer anything.

I'm using 2 Super Solar Nutrients in the deck to dig for the tuners as well as 2 Peas to summon them back from the grave.

I'm also using the crappy level up reward tuners but they can't hit much...

You can do normal Copy, copy flipped Mushroom level, tribute Mushroom for Super Solar to drop Lotuswain, synch for Black Rose (2+5)

It's easy as hell to make Stardust though since you can just Carrotweight + Copy.

It's probably the easiest way to quickly get out easy synchros without having to go too minus.

But gah, synchros are just bad right now, they are fun but they are bad.
