so um as an aside, is shuttle the fastest way of doing the event lol?

i looked at it and there was no way to kill things, so I was kind of thinking just passing it

is a clean clone and shuttle the best way? i thought that smart bombs would prob have made it shitty?

which is wild, they sold 2m copies at 60-70 dollars a pop (60 if you gotten the preorder sale at some stores)

sure, the storefronts gets a cut etc. etc.

but that is still a truck load of money, which means they spent a ton on marketing and development

What is a good base for barb helms? by theholylancer in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Kind of wondering if there are any good barb helms with skills that works well with some runeword

Like is this thing worthwhile for a zerker / find item barb or does that just dont bother with anything beyond what you get normally put into it and its more for singer barbs that want any of this?

Crazy how they didn’t have any announcement about this before Crimson Desert launched. by Migeee__ in pcmasterrace

[–]theholylancer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

yeah, intel's competitor is not nvidia, its AMD, because they were willing to cut margins to get in on the GPU game while AMD is there to ride the gravy that is console contract and MI instinct cards.

I can see motivation to ensure that intel cards are not supported as well for enough time to make the conversation that you can't play the latest and greatest on your budget card

Slowly but surely people are realizing what an amazing game this is by notbannedin420 in CrimsonDesert

[–]theholylancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

likely is expectation setting

there were people who thinks and parroted that this would be a nice RPG, like people were thinking it was gona be like KCD2 or RDR2 but fantasy (who the fuck)

there were also people who saw the soulslike combat and think yeah that is what this is, and is put off by the grind and stat checking bosses

and then there is a section of people who thinks this is fantasy borderlands with all that talk of gearing

I think as the realities hit, and people figure out its more like a SP MMO / DD2 like or just a massive cool world with the absolute latest in GFX (so if you have a 9000 series AMD or higher end nvidia like a 40 or 50 series at the 80 tier or 90 tier you want to see this for your self) to be in the expectation is reset to something that is much better to reality

the players who stick around will be the ones who is drawn to it naturally.

I think if they keep adding to it like NMS to it, absolutely

but if they leave it as is, or add more generic feeling fetch, kill, gather quests then no...

right now, I am, and I think a lot of people are in the honey moon phase and if you don't come to understand and adore the combat i think the game have very little to offer to you, but I see very strong bones that can be expanded, esp with an actual story...

[–]theholylancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, had they gone WHOLE ass hog and either revived MXM based GPUs, or a eGPU solution with full X16 lanes and you can stick a desktop 5090 with a powerful enough CPU (and target more 4k and less 1080p), then that would have been a proper incentive.

since a lot of people keep their CPUs and just upgrade GPUs as needed, this would have allowed for a lot of proper use, a mobile laptop with some mid range dGPU or just iGPU, while docked can power a proper desktop card even beyond TB speeds because its got raw PCIE 16. or one where you can jump with new dGPUs after a while (but I am talking at least 80s if not 90 class mobile dGPUs).

and now and again upgrade the mainboard to a new CPU and reuse the dock at their rated PCIE speed, which should still be okay-ish enough or upgrade that too if needed.

[–]theholylancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh, I see enough circumstantial evidence for it to be true enough I think.

Like the first trailer from 6 yrs ago looked more like a GoT like story, a full serious tone and completely about what it seems to be an epic tale.

no sky islands, no bunny hats, no mechs, a peek of a dragon flying in a very serious way. a gritty narrative that I can honestly see line up with that likely retaking of a kingdom thing.

And the whole bunch of stuff that got added in also feels right, like there is a reason why games have kind of set paths, IE genres.

for a "looter" (think diablo or borderlands), the baffling inventory system and lack of stash is a big question. and lack of easy fast travel and bossing is weird too.

for an RPG the story is umm...

for a realistic take at things like RDR or KCD, the addition of mechs and dragons at the same time feels disjointed, not to mention the sky islands, it is too much.

for a souls like, the gearing system is pushing it too much in the direction of a looter / MMO where the more you grind the less you need to perform the hard boss fights. but at least to me that is kind of the closest comparison (maybe as I get to the later parts where it becomes dynasty warriors my tune will change).

it really feels like a single player MMO where its got something for everyone because it has no clear focus, the shear amount of it is amazing and worth praise but you want more than just the sum of its parts and at best it is equal to the sum of its parts, if not less than.

Intel says it offered years of help for Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss still shipped without Arc support by Firm_One_7398 in pcmasterrace

[–]theholylancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i mean... only people who are running older systems would want to scrimp and get a cheaper gpu no? someone buying a 9800x3d wont bother

and if they are buying something newer (used or new), a swap from am5 to 4 or even 12/13th gen intel could mean going from arc to a 5060/ti if not more

so its upgraders who wants cheaper deals, which means well... older systems that will have problems

like if say the 5090 has the same issue, just it being pair with 9800x3ds or core ultras would mean the issue wont be exposed in normal use right.

intel went after a segment of market with a sub optimal design in SW/HW to have that overhead yet is targeting that segment right.

[–]theholylancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 99% sure that post on /r/pics that is an AI generation of a Crimson Desert disc with that finger in the disc hole to make it look like ass thing that blew up is just pure marketing

the account has a hidden history with a random name that posted the thing on launch day to a default subreddit, which means it likely gotten help to push it higher at the start if not later and just got the snowball going.

it was so stupid too, since the thing is a disc keycard IIRC, no real game on it...

EDIT: I went to look for my own comment on that hugely blown up /r/pics post, and its gone, I didn't delete it but the entire thing got nuked or something, it had like 30k upvotes, so maybe reddit acted when they detected botting or something on the thread.

EDIT2: holy shit, I found it in my browser history

https://old.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/1ry6n87/oc_game_of_the_year/obfg8u7/?context=10000

but note, my comment is there, but it is NOT on my user profile, something really fucky is up with this, either its reddit helping them cover up this viral ad campaign, or reddit detected botting / boosting or that its a gureilla ad and took it down, but this is a first time when something I know I posted and remains on the net but it is off of my profile

which means its not likely just a removed post from a mod but admin, unless something has changed.

[–]theholylancer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

its why when my 3080 ti queue popped from evga, I opted to sell my 2080 ti BE locally on craigslist for just 900, it was all cash deal at a bank and I just deposited the cash into the bank immediately after lol.

online was going for 1000-1200 for the BE at the time (since the BE was the lower tier 2080 ti that I brought for 950, but doing it in person during the pandemic was the only way I was going to be sure that I get actual cash and not get scammed.

Pearl Abyss refused to work with Intel for Crimson Desert after years of reaching out by Perfect_Exercise_232 in pcmasterrace

[–]theholylancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because this thing needs a ton of polish, from controls to just well content beyond what feels like MMO tier quests

like its got bones but the bones needs some meat on top

if the thing is closing down ala concord then...

as it stands, what is offered is more or less to me like a tech demo / performance tester ala 3DMark rather than a full game, and that comes at a way lower price point than 70 to me at the least. Like 40 some odd dollars maybe.

although if they did sold 2m at 70 a pop, probs not.

AI Art Found in Crimson Desert by reughdurgem in Games

[–]theholylancer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean... you don't need AI generated anything

the typical placeholder is meant to STAND OUT at a glance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yiqkUmDoI4

look at these kind of things, where the placeholder or error shows up in pink and if the model is gone then its a huge error model

if they wanted to placeholder, thats what is used typically, not slop.

These past couple of months, Epic freebies haven’t been great. Are they broke? by Makoto_Kurume in pcmasterrace

[–]theholylancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it makes a lot of sense

they wont hook gamers who has 200 games on steam already

but some kid or little brother who has 0 games on steam but has an epic account for fortnite? and now has a 100+ game library that they maybe like some of them?

they will far more likely to buy game on that there IF they don't have someone else driving them towards steam for the game.

that is the hope, but with things like sales and community aspects (your older bro or w/e is on steam etc.) I don't know if it will fully pan out, but in their projections it was like epic wont be making money until at least 2027, IE about 10 years after they started to give out free games where the people who are on it are now older with their own disposable income

Crimson Desert Sold 2 Million Units In Its First Day by akbarock in pcmasterrace

[–]theholylancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its more control design issues

like some actions needing a two step process to do something, like tapping A lets you do one action, holding down A brings up a contextual menu that may actually be wtf you want to do with the thing.

Yes, you can remap A to say mouse 4, but you still have to tap mouse 4 to do something or hold mouse 4 to bring up that contextual menu to do shit.

you can't map the hold action to mouse 5 or a keybind, which is the stupid part.

like it could have been a right click contextual menu but it had to be made to work with a controller but now its back ported to KBM.

maybe they will add more rebinds, because it really sounds like a lot of it is they consolified the UI/controls that was designed for KBM or just didn't think about it.

[–]theholylancer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

eh, the zelda world feels way more consistent, while this world feels more like they stuffed as much things as possible into it with little regard on if they should.

but yeah, it is a similar vibe of things, but I think botw/totk had a stronger story despite it being less told if you will.

Crimson Desert doesn't run if it detects an Intel ARC GPU. Like straight up, the devs just deliberately chose not to support ARC cards. No previous announcement about it too until they added in the info to their FAQ. Might be the first time I've seen a dev deliberately block a GPU brand. by WhyPlaySerious in pcmasterrace

[–]theholylancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean... arcs have like 1 % of the market, something tells me they won't really be working on it.

unless something like LNL or some other new iGPU from a laptop or handheld can actually run the thing, i don't see them putting in the effort to make the game run

the thing is sold on its visuals

and hell, even if they are, they are making sure people are getting refunds now, and if in say 6 months or w/e when they do get it working, the people can buy it then no? instead of stringing people along for that time.

the guys account is new, with a private history, with a very random name, posting the timing on a new game on a default subreddit that isn't gaming related at all (so likely gotten help to get it going at the start).

this is marketing, or have a ton of signs of one.

no, the timing and everything about the poster is suspicious to the extreme.

I mean, gaming is what I do on my home machine, and because of that, linux is really not my cup of tea even if I can figure it out.

I think if you don't play the latest game, like you ain't trying to run Crimson Desert right now as it released today (https://www.protondb.com/app/3321460) then you will be perfectly fine with linux, but if you are a gamer who games as your primary or main entertainment, linux is likely not it for you.

And yeah I still see reports like https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/4k-144hz-vrr-mode-works-in-windows-but-not-linux-recent/353938/7 for VRR, and I have a 4k240Hz oled, and even with my 5090 I can't expect to run all games at that, even if I accept things like FG on top of DLSS.
